PvP, FFA or not, is still about a game and Eve Online is more a social experiment on how people would behave if there was no laws, moral or otherwise.

This is an idiot who needs to be shown that his actions are unacceptable, the game is the game just that a game where the rules or lack of ate clear to anyone joining.

As hard as it will be for CCP to actually do something they probably need to. Letting this just fester on wont be good in the long run. We like the fact that we have such freedom in the game and that it allows us to play as we like. The bad guy or the good guy, but it's NOT cool to bring those things to the outside world and try to exploit them.

I don't know if Mintanni or whatever what's the dude to commit suicide I am not saying that. What is the point is that he's taking an action that is well know to be frowned upon in the online community, EVE is it's own thing but people shouldn't forget that the world opperates on a different set of morales..

No matter how warped those may be also..

    He's wrong.. Just wrong

They won't do anything from the looks of it at this point.  CCP is dam quick to drop the banhammer when they are going to drop it.  Had it been the average person, they would of been gone by now.  Goons have been in full force since yesterday spamming the hell out of those threads using every angle that they can think of in an attempt to provide wiggle room for CCP.

Top that off with the fact that Alex could very well call for mass unsub, yeah.  As stated one thing Goons are is well organized and they've pretty much got CCP by the balls.  A monster of their creation, so to speak. I bet the number of unsubs last year, over monovclegate, doesn't even come close to the financial damage that a goon walkout do.  They laid off how many people over that again?

Im not a carebear by any stretch, but damn, these guys need help.

You can't just destroy an alliance's holdings there will be a power vacuum, accusations of devs playing favorites (whoever benefits from an alliance being banned is the favorite etc). The point of the game is egos and alliance pride, CCP encourages it. Goons are just trying to push the limits of it to stand out among all the other alliances, attention whoring isn't a bannable offense.

I agree, there would be a vacuum, but thats what Eve needs right now.

Besides.. Attention whoring may not be a bannable offence, but inciting people to violate the codes of conduct is.. even though most normal people would frown on verbally assaulting someone with mental health issues.

There has been an outpouring of defence for Mittens stupidity..  Which even he has said was wrong in his apology.. what does that say for Goons members..

If they defend him that blindly they are even stupider than I thought.. I even read some of the posts on the Eve forum saying "Well if he does kill himself its one less ass**** in the world"

I mean.. folks.. thats just wrong.

If CCP was to forcefully close goonswarm then there will be a much larger uproar. CCP pride themselves on not interfering ingame and this will be alot worse for CCP. Goonswarm is being Goonswarm, CCP have no need to close the alliance

CCP have interfered in the game so many times in the past.. why not now.

Ok removing Goons would be a stretch, but they allowed BoB so much, now they are going to allow Mittens to get away with this.. there has to be repercusions.

Personally I hope it brings down the CSM system and they take control of thier game again, I think Dust is thier attempt to do that.

Lets just hope they dont screw up World of Darkness by giving in to the players. Otherwise they are gonna allow the seedier side of life, like Mittens and Goons to become the primogen in most cities.

Give an asshole an ego and he's annoying.. give and asshole an ego, anonymity and some followers he's dangerous.

What a douchebag. Plenty of balls behind the screen. Wonder how much of a pussy he is in a face-to-face scenerio. Why doesnt he just give his name (and address since he's so Boss and all) out in real life..so people can track him down and beat the bullshit right out of him.

Cause like most ego driven people, he's a coward :)

But as long as people listen to his BS, he has power.. It sucks, but thats life.

Great!...What's his address? Did he give out his address too? .  He didn't make other people wait and research before giving out a suicidal man's in-game name and urging all to push him into oblivion.

I have nothing against EVE or Goonswarm . I'm not calling for them to be banned. Just think  this guy is a dickhead and would wonder why anyone would want him as a representative.

  • GinazGinaz Member RarePosts: 2,470

From what I know, its not uncommon for the victim of the gank to claim they are suicidal in order to guilt the other party into giving them back their stuff.  This is more than likely what happened in this case.  The Goons have probably seen this often enough from their victims to know to either ignore it or mock them.  The gank vicitm then got mocked at a drunken fan fest.  I fail to see how this is as big a deal as people are making it out to be.

I'm fairly certain this is the Goons reaction to all your tears and anger:

Is a man not entitled to the herp of his derp?

Remember, I live in a world where juggalos and yugioh players are real things.

  • Kuro1nKuro1n Member UncommonPosts: 775

I'm no goon but I do support Mittani due to everything hes doing for the game, however I think he was wrong this one time. Yet the victim in question didn't actually care much about it so why are people making such a big deal about it? Oh yes right... because everyone loves the drama.

People are saying Mittani and goons are disgusting, I think this thread stinks ten times worse right now. People saying he should get beaten up irl and such. Hypocrits.

The big deal is when he went public

Had this stayed in game, he could have flown away with that guy's loot and responded with

"do I look like your therepist?" and left it there.

But no, He went public in one of th ebiggest ways possible.

And to write this off as a drunekn mistake is BULL SH!7!

He was prepared for that message.

EVE Online's annual Fanfest is an opportunity for players from across the world to share stories of the year's big events, political actions, and epic battles won and lost. Each year, player speakers from the game's biggest and most influential alliances are invited to take part in the Alliance Panel at Fanfest, where they can talk about their organisation and what it's done over the preceding year. Massively got a hold of a copy of this year's Alliance Panel, and unfortunately it was marked by something more distressing than the usual political ego-buffing and mass consumption of alcohol.

GoonSwarm alliance speaker and second-time CSM chairman Alexander 'The Mittani' Gianturco gave a talk on some of the year's most memorable alliance activities, from shutting down Ice Mining operations across several regions to scamming people with fake supercapital ship trades. As part of the talk, Alex aired a private correspondence in which a victim revealed that he'd been severely depressed following a divorce and expressed suicidal thoughts. "We're sure that he's not dead," Alex flippantly remarked during the talk, before adding that "he might have committed suicide."

Read on for the full details of what Alex said to encourage the event's thousands of viewers to engage in cyber-bullying, as well as the response from CCP.

While a flippant remark that the victim may have killed himself could possibly be seen as drunken banter intended to embellish the impact of the story, later in the talk Alex actually gave the name of the pilot and encouraged players to harass him in order to make him commit suicide. "Incidentally, if you want to make the guy kill himself, his name is [REMOVED]," Alex said, adding that "he has his own corp. Find him." The entire talk was watched by a packed room of Fanfest attendees and streamed live to thousands of players at home. Alex told players to "deal with it" when complaints surfaced on the EVE forum.

With people still heading home from Fanfest, CCP responded to tell us they are investigating the issue and will get back to us with the results as soon as they can. Public Relations specialist Ned Coker told Eurogamer that CCP is "undertaking a full internal review of this panel as well as the process used for vetting the panel's materials," adding that "Even though this panel was billed as unfiltered by CCP, we expect public presentations to be courteous and professional towards others." Ned also confirmed that "CCP will be very vigilant in monitoring any behaviour directed towards the individual named in the presentation."

Has anyone started demanding this guy be removed from his position, from teh CSM, and replaced in a recall vote?

Anything new here? Hmmm... Nope. o/

  • HazelleHazelle Member Posts: 760

Nothing will happen over this except CCP will promise to monitor future events which will boil down to CCP giving the speakers a pep talk before hand.

    That is all.

I gotta say the irony is kinda funny here when you stop and think about it.

A guy who promotes himself as being an asshat and promotes thes use of propaganda as a form of warfare is now suffering from a propaganda attack about him acting like an asshat.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gvo08_uYjHI     @1:12  it's the guys ingame name..  Everyone on eve-o knows it at this point. Goons type it out every other post.

Some claim CCP has been editing videos that they control.  I have not really looked. But that's the comment causing backlash.  Making fun of the Eve-mail is a few minutes earlier.

Before his apology Mittens comments were "deal with it!."  His apology isn't sincere, more like CCP putting preasure on him.

    https://forums.eveonline.com/default.aspx?g=posts&m=997031#post997031

It is safe to say that it is not a troll.

CSM have said that they are discussing what should be done.

CCP have said that they are doing a investigation.

Forums still on fire. Though a lot of it's goons on damage control.

Edit just to add:  It's no surprise that Mittens did what he did, or for that matter any goon.  My opinion is that what  pushed it over the edge was that it's all on video at a CCP sponsered event vs. forums posts consisting of hearsay.

I don't think I'll be trying any of CCPs future games unless there is a pretty strong action taken on their part.

I used to play Eve and yeah, its hardcore. But this is way, way over the line.

If it is even a real thing and not just Mittani and the goons trolling (as usual). lol

Even if it is all made up it reflects very badly on CCP, if someone else from the game dies as a result of "making harassment acceptable" then it still falls on CCP and Mittani

That is really broken logic, CCP is investigating it. What else would you want them to do? They are not there in order to keep depressed gamers alive even if they are making a try. If something they are working against harassement very well by investingating. How is Mittani even remotely connected to another case that could potentially happen, if this turns out to be a big case of goonswarm trolling?

I agree BUT if i was the company i would hold him responsible for making me waste my time alone on the investigation either way he'd be getting punished for making my company look bad and my game as a whole look bad

CSM6 was the worst CSM ever and I just hope this "event" will finally ban Mittani from taking place in any CSM for life, something that should have been done long long ago...

Right the first CSM to actually push anything meaningful to CCP was the worst. No the previous ones where bugger all was accomplished was the worst last years was the best CSM we have ever had.

This has been confirmed a troll, the guy who sent the mail does not care aboiut what The Mittani said and has stated that he has never had suicidal thoughts, he was just trying (and failed) to get sympathy out of the person who ganked his mining ships

Man, he used an official CCP platform to call for the in game harassment of someone with mental health issues with the express purpose of driving him to commit suicide, this was publically broadcast as part of the CCP coverage of their official event. I am not really sure how it can A. Be justifiable. B. not be against their catch all ToS or C. In CCP's interests (especially with their new partners such as Sony's publicly stated policies on cyber bullying) to keep this clusterfuck rolling down the hill gaining bad publicity.

i dont see any sane reason to email a goon leader about that fact you want to suicide so the hole thing is strange to me
