Not true, as above, even the most well fit ships with the most experienced pilots can make mistakes and fuck up resulting in hilarity. Well, hilarity for those who take advantage of human error.

Sorry, I don't think this is completely true. It may be your opinion, but it's not fact.

How many kill mails would you like to see where that is not true?

I have more fun trading / playing the market in EvE than fighting.  Only MMO I can say that about because I love PvP... hopefully DUST 514 fills that void for me within the EvE universe.

It all depends what you're PVPing for in EVE. I find faction warfare uneventful, but i really enjoy taking a ship out to PVP hotzones and getting into frigate/destroyer combat. I also can't seem to get into alliance level warfare, but getting attacked when escorting a freighter filled with Ravens through hostile territory is a big rush for me.  My latest interest is Red vs Blue, which is a low risk but high engagement form of combat.

EVE, like UO, offers a diverse range of PVP opportunities and it's a matter of finding what works best for you and your playstyle. If you liked Darkfall's PVP at launch - which was a very FFA, watch-your-back and almost frantic experience - then check out RvB.

Let me clarify... EvE PvP in terms of scope / meaning is amazing.  It's the STYLE... as in EvE not Player Skilled (FPS / TPS) enough for my liking where as something like Darkfall the player is in control of when an attack happens and where said attack is aimed.

Perhaps I got a bad taste however... I got into alliance warfare fairly early on and it was nothing but gate fights.  I don't like that fighting is always centered around a quick warp out area.  Feels cheesey to "Gate Camp"

I've seen a veteran in an expensive battleship taken out by a squad of guys in nothing but the cheapest-as-shit rookie frigates, guys in ships with uber-expensive plex mods and implants get soloed by someone flying something less than a tenth as expensive, and I've seen several-million-isk Cruisers soloed by several-hundred-thousand isk frigates. I call total BS on this statement.

    Where's the any key?

Is there another EVE? Because a skilled pilot can lose in the EVE I play, go into null or lo-sec and get caught in a bubble and see how fast your expensive ship with all those mods last.  Especially when you have several ships smart-bombing you - like they do in some gate camps.  One's knowledge of the game is better than any ship.  Knowing which path to choose to avoid traps, knowing where not to sell your stuff(Jita) because there are a lot  of vultures scanning ships for expensive cargo, etc.

    Currently bored with MMO's.

Sometimes but if you knew as much about the combat of Eve as you are trying to portray, then you'd know that alot of winning is a good leader followed by people who can follow orders and know how to pilot their ships.

I really have no doubt the end game of eve pvp is pretty kickass, looks like it to be honest. But anyone new attempting to join the action will pull their hair out in frustration day after day from the multiple hurdles it takes to even get into it. Argue it all you like, but I can count allot more people who have tried and quit in 2 days then attempting to play on probably a 1 out of 10 actually stay to play it. I know only one person out of the 30+ that are in my crew that actually still plays it. All the rest had the same issue as mentioned above. If CCP could fix that it would change the game, but then that would piss off the end game players so they and their community are stuck in a rut. Eh I am going on a rant, don't hate it in the end, looks fun, just getting into it is more frustrating then dealing with cancer.

You get the adrenaline kick when dying in an MMO is a big deal. Any time you get ganked, your adrenaline kicks in and if you die you get mad like in the whole "umadbro" sense while if you kill the other person, then you just have to live through 5 minutes or so of adrenaline pumping through your veins. I'll admit, it's like a drug and it's awesome.

The idea of the game is pretty sweet and anytime I see videos of the action, it always feels like it means something.

But I have a hard time playing in a simulator game. If I had better control of my ship and have it twitch reaction over three textbook of info I have to know to survive in a battle, I think I would have had a better time in it. I tried it 2 years ago or so and only lasted for 3 days before I said "screw it, i'm an idiot."

Props to all that play it, I just wish it would be easier to compete in the game if you at least put in 2-3 months instead of 6-12 months.

I don't really think it's fixable because in order to fix it you'd have to destroy what it is.  It's not a game for the masses because it involves real loss and no safety.  With those attributes, it will never be what the majority want.

It's not to say that there aren't things that could be improved but the improvements largly lie in the new player experience.

I personally like if when you die, you lose your ship... especially in a space game. It's just the leveling system mainly that confuses people if you haven't played the game. I can see people wasting months on just picking the wrong things to level because they don't know better. image

Don't want to de-rail the OP's thread here, but it has nothign really to do with loss in the game that makes it rough, part of it, but eh you know this getting into it. Skills vs Time is my issue and many others, but alas thats for another post. The game again has and probably always will look like a blast, but till the devs do something like "join now, get a free year of xp!" will it actually be viable for new players. I have no doubt this will NEVER happen and in so, will never get the player base it could have. Their game time = experiance platform is it's number one downfall and it's greatest asset to the current players. All of which equals a kobayashi maru  scenario.

Yeah only really works in economy driven gvg games like eve (unlimited sides, personal risk)

Or 3 sided territory capute hand like daoc and planetside ( 3 sides, shared factional risk)

Pvp just don't work with only 2 sides and risk being getting slightly less tokens

That skill point fixation is the same thing that keeps driving my friends away from the game. I found that once I started playing the game instead of fixating on skill points, that it wasn't a big deal, and infact, I tended to have the skills necessary to fly the bigger ships long before I had the money to afford to do so. Then again, I never had a desire to fly a capital ship.

As for the topic at hand, Eve is where I always find myself going back to, not necessarily for the ship to ship combat, but I really enjoy playing the markets and production. There are real fights (PVP-like) in the markets that are exhillerating, because it can get pretty costly. I've yet to find that same feeling anywhere else. Well, for the first few months I did feel something similar in FFXIV, but the developers have shown they have no intrest in that area.

Well yea, EVE will do that to a unexpected gamer. It will sneak up to you and slam you face first to a hard ground. This is no kids game, sometimes Iam not sure is this just a very good game or some kind of test. No magic potions to save here in this cold and dark space kids, well maybe escape pod.

Nothing makes me clench my butthole quite like having a neutral/enemy pop into my system when I'm ratting in my expensive ship :)
