tell us the small little things that you dont like/prefer in this game

CorthagathCorthagath Member Posts: 291

surely, as we all are waiting patiently (NOT) for this game... there has to be something that your not complitely ok with the game. there might have been even some slight decisions from devs that made you think that maybe it would have been better the other way. i dont care if its big or small thing but please do tell me if theres something bothering you (but keep it clean).

i have been waiting for long this game and i love lot of things that see/hear about it. but something caught my eye recently... it became in the skill trailers first, then i noticed the same thing in the new footage as well. all the characters every now and then have this stupid remark that they make in the battle... i find it really embarrasing and bad myself but maybe it doesnt bother anyone else. for me its as annoying as all those comments in unreal tournament games like "my house" or "squeel boy, squeel". i find it really obsolete to put it in the game. what if someone wants to play "silent" character who doesnt talk smack with every hit they make, or beg to their god when they are downed ? i kinda wish its optional to have these "lines" in for the characters, or atleast your own :D

I believe those comments are visual indicators. IE, they say something about "feeling mighty" when they get a might buff or what have you, since Anet said they wanted you to watch the action not read icons on the UI. If you're talking about something else entirely, then sorry. :)

Myself I'm a little iffy on daily achievements. It will depend on how easy they are/how big of a boost you get from doing them. I'd hate to be trying to get guildies to do a dungeon and here "Hang on, gotta find 17 more centaurs" or something.

I love the consept of this game, the only thing that really sits on the back of my mind is the Dynamic Events. its a great idea, however the balencing is very critical because if it happens too often, then it will become a grind. If it doesnt happen often enough then it becomes like Rift, sitting around waiting for a rift to happen.

if balenced though this can be great.

    Because i can.

Honestly, there's only some minor gribes I have with the game (or rather non-dealbreakers).

For one, I like the mailsystem, but It would also be nice to have an inter-person trading system. I know it's completely pointless and unnecessary, but it feels more personal when you direct-trade someone. Which I think is a good thing.

For two, the weapon based combat, I really like what they've done w/ it, but I'm one of those players that really prefers the aesthetics of some weapons over the others. I'm hoping some can be reskinned to look more like something I'd want to equip. For example, it feels kinda wierd to me wielding an axe on a necromancer. Would look better as a scythe or something along those lines, but anyway, you get the point.

It would also be cool to be able to change your home town, but I doubt they have time to integrate such a feature into the personal story system.

And, it would also be nice at some point to have have multiple skill combos for weapons. It would be cool to choose what kinds of attacks you would be doing using a greatsword, etc. They've done this a little bit with some of the finishers, changing their skill depending on the offhand, but it would be nice to have a little more of this.

That's really all I can think of... can't wait to play this game.

I don't like that the game can be solo'd I get that as content moves forward people will want to movie on from old stuff and new players are left on their own. But they should come up with another solution. Like giving veteran players some kind of reward for helping new characters with quests. Conquer Online does this and by doing so, new players can quickly establish themselves in the community by having a veteran friend. And no one has to miss out on content or play alone.

I wish more MMOs would focus on rewarding people for teaming up.

That it seems that normal open world events (not counting those dragon fights) are stupidly easy like in other mmorpg's.

Please A.net make at least small portion (like 10%) DE in some areas HARD.

I hate when game has only challanging pve content in instances :(

Yeah, I'm hoping the ones in the newbie zones are deliberately made easier until you get your bearings, and stuff continues to get harder the higher you level.

Really these are minor or could be non starters once I see more of the game but since you asked:

    1) Voice Acting - So far what I have seen in the cinematics is extremely poor in quality. Not a biggie to me but it is rather weak.

    2) Undie Siege - Running around in your underwear if your armor breaks simply looks stupid to me. Not a biggie either but meh...just looks lame

3)Dungeon mob variation - Huge stretch here really because I have only seen one dungeon and in story mode only but it does seem rather boring taking on the same mobs over and over again. i would hope other modes and dungeons vary it up a bit in mob types and get creative. Probably one of the only things I agree with Lewis from Yogcast's rant that has been posted here. This really could be a non issue since we've seen so little of the content relating to this.

4)Chat beep sound - I hope to god there is a way to silence that or it is just for testing purposes because that shit is going to get really annoying after a while. Seems like it goes off every time someone says somethng in general from what I have seen unless I'm misjudging it.

5)Dynamic Events - Hopefully these are rather crative in design throughout the zones. So far they seem pretty cool but I hope they don't end up recycling the same concepts at thigher levels so they don't turn into how rifts went for many. really cool at first but eventually something most couldn;t be bothered with because they felt it was the same old shit.

Think that is about it really.

    A single faction... seriously?

And no mounts... along with the explanation that mounts aren't needed because you can just teleport everywhere, possibly making it feel like a lobby game.

The game can be solo'd, yes. This was to give players the option of playing alone, which, for whatever reason, is actually something that some people like to do on massively multiplayer online games?... image

But everything about this game's content encourages you to play with other people. It removes all the barriers to playing with other players that's found in other MMO's. With things like cross profession combos, being able to revive any character while in the midst of battle, dynamic events that scale up in power with more people who're actively participating, and a WvWvW system that's designed to spur community as well as instanced mining nodes and shared loot and experience... the game is supposed to become a lot more fun when you're playing with other people. You're even rewarded with karma for participating in someone else's personal storyline, as well as that content being scaled for the players involved.

Hopefully, the changes ArenaNet are attempting will break the singleplayer conditioning that some MMO's have brought on to some of the people that play them. They're making it so you have no justifiable reason to prefer playing alone, since all the content in the game reinforces it so heavily.

Well, there are 3 for WvW. But honestly I really enjoyed AoC when it launched, and it has no factions. I'm not sure what they really bring to the table, but I'm willing to be enlightened :B

What you said.  No mounts...I will not play.   Don't care if they have quick transport.  I would like a mount to travel cross country on.

I don't know man. It was funny when I first saw a "naked" gnome raid in WoW years ago. It had its moment but it just seems so overdone and played out anymore.

I agree with these. Also Wicked in terms in variation of DE's I know you saw that DE in Norn Part 3, don't really see stuff like that in the ope world lol, least for me. I mean I think in terms of different DE's I've seen almost every quest type(escort, kill xand kill y, collect x and collect y, disable this and activate this, defend this for certain amount of time, and so on) I've actually seen a lot that had all those in one event that can be done in any order all at once and you can heavily do one and still complete the event, plus that recent one and a few more new ones(Kill underwater creatures using an orr. All this in 3 starter zones...sheesh.

But umm to add I'd say the turn animations on mobs.

Also the exaggerated effects like fire, but that's going to be toned down/worked on so it's a relief.

I contend having the teleport system won't make it feel like a lobby game because the reason that happens in other games is players have virtually no reason to go out into the open world.

Take WoW, for example. At 85, none of the world is relevant to you because you've outleveled it and can basically one shot everything, except the few zones that have dailies for you. Otherwise, you can queue for dungeons and raids from a capital city.

With Guild Wars 2, there's going to be over 1500 dynamic events, some of which can chain across an entire map, and are all relevant to anyone at max level because of zone sidekicking mechanic. These dynamic events reward gold, karma, and experience that's, hopefully, relevant to your level. Since some of them have potentially long chains of more than 15 events or so and having very noticable impacts on the environment, these gems can potentially keep players interested in a lot of the open world content for a long time. Just as well, dynamic events are discovered through the nature of exploration... you can't just queue up for one, you need to be actively in the world when they're happening, or have had a friend let you know that one was happening. So I really don't see lobby gameplay being an issue.

Crafting looks pretty uninteresting from as much as I know about it, and the voice acting, at times, can be pretty bad.

That's about it for me, though.

Yeah, I was really stretching with the DE one. But it does concern me a bit. I was one of the few that still really enjoyed rifting the whole time I played but goddamn it got to be a pain when so many just felt like not doing them anymore. I just hope they stay varied enough that people don't lose interest in doing DEs as well. You know how damn finnicky these players can be at times. They are a lot more varied than rifts to be sure, but I was more referring to the player mentailty in regard to what happened with those rather than saying they're one in the same.

Really it is the players that concern me heh. Just as with the dungeons. They seem to be great in design but will people still put forth an effort with them past the first few weeks or will the majority fizzle out on participating in them making it a pain in the rear for those still wanting to complete them or those that get into the game after the launch period? That is my only real concern.

Nice topic really. Glad to see no flame wars have sprouted either.

Actually, Taela just enjoys trolling on the GW2 forums. Most of her posts go something like this: "It's not a sandbox so I don't like it..." So I'm surprised that her reasons for not buying the game this time is that there is no mounts.

She does bring up some good points at times. However, she does have a knack for gettng long in the tooth or getting in her moods where she simply baits people.

I can see some people being irked by the no mount thing. Personally I don't give a shit but to each their own.
