I have only seen one video of hers before, and it was also Tera and folks were giving her a bad time about her tone of voice and sounding bored.

I didn't mind the commentary on this one, her voice reminded me of Megan Webb for some reason. But with that said, her voice seemed a little more forced and "put on" to be professional for this preview.... I have to say do prefer her bored voice though, because it seems more real to me. And I say that without caring about whether she sounds overly enthused or not.

IMO, if you're a 'keyboard turner' or a 'mouse clicker'  -  you're doin it wrong.  Period.  Plain and simple.  Only if you're new, to MMOs should that be your excuse for not controlling your character properly.  Any credibility I might have given Miss Pokket's review with regard to controlling your character instanly diminished when she tried to stick up for 'keyboard turners' and 'mouse clickers'.

No reason to have criticism for character control because you can't 'keyboard turn' or 'mouse click' well enough.

    Just sayin...

They were giving her a hard time in the other thread because she was playing terrible.  She was in a Tera beta group and kept dying over and over because she kept walking blindly into a tailwhip.   She could not even understand why she kept dying.  When she was alive all she did was hop around and contributed nothing to her group except squeel in vent  She was crtiticized for being a pretend player who knows little to nothing about MMOS .  If you listen closely to her podcasts there is little to no substance or knowledge.  But in all fairness the mainstream MMO media routinely lacks substance and knowledge.  Is she any worse than the repetition of developer talking points we see called game previews and reviews?  I don't think so in terms of content or lack of content.

What I think makes her high on the annoyance factor is she comes off a bit arrogant with to much self praise especially considering that she appears clueless as to whats going on in game.

What I found really annoying was when they were in the 10 minute elite fight was not that that she kept dying because of her stupidity.  Its what she did after she died.  Rather than just being dead she spammed vent while dead with useless info about how she died.  She did this everytime she died.  If anyone has ever been in a raid guild they know what a serious no-no this is and how annoying it is when people who are dead are spamming vent and taking away everyone elses focus.  This simply told me she has no clue and sends out a big red flag that indicates that Pokket is likely only about Pokket.

I think its a guy thing where when they see a female gamer they instantly look for stuff to complain about. IJustine is another example of this. No matter what game it is when she puts videos of the games on her Youtube Channel a bunch of trolls come out ready to thumbs down/trash her via comments. I think its people who are too ignorant or lazy to make/upload their own play through videos just acting like Douchebags.Or maybe they dont upload their own because they are afraid of having people tell them they are garbage so they just troll videos daily.

    Yeah...no.

Everyone has their own style thats efficient for them. I, personally, set my most often-used abilities, or abilities I will need to activate quickly, to 1 to 5 and alt+1 to 5. Heals are usually set to a higher number that I can't reach with my left hand without moving out of my natural WASD position. For them, I use mouse clicks to activate the heal with my right hand, and F keys to select the target from my party with my left. If I'm healing someone outside my party, I can effortly switch hands, using the left hand to activate the skill, and the mouse to both target and move if need be.

This setup works smooth and simply for me, as if it were second nature. To someone else it might be completely screwed up.

    So yeah...just no.

    - I understand that people might be tired of the kill/collect/interact/escort/talk to quests.  My question is what would people rather see?  Additionally, how can so many people praise the questing of SWTOR when it is the exact same kill/collect/interact/escort/talk to crap that is in EVERY other MMO out there?

    - You complain about the inability to cancel abilities and then complain about not having an ability queue.  That makes me laugh.  Tera combat is all about positioning and timing.  If you had an ability queue you would probably just be complaining about how you're constantly having to sit through abilities you can't cancel.

    - You complain about ability delay yet you play SWTOR.  That game STILL has some of the worst ability delay I've seen and they've released multiple patches aimed at fixing that.  It may seem that I'm trying to downplay whatever ability delay you noticed but I promise I'm not.  Just wondering if you could maybe tell us how bad this "slight hesitation" is compared to SWTOR's.

    - I am a smidge curious how, at level 17, you only have about 4 abilities bound?

    - You complain about boss fights being almost boring with the, "avoid X, avoid Y, fight boss, avoid A, avoid B, fight boss," statement.  Again, my question is, what more do you want?!  Especially since you're looking at less than the first half of the game.  Already Tera has given me WAY more than any other tab target, 1234 spam, move occasionally boss fights of other games.

In closing, I found most of your points either inaccurate or non-issues.  The ineptitude you displayed in the short game-play clips from Tera make me feel bad for the actually decent female gamers as well as ruin whatever credibility you may have had.  Write out a script, check your facts, practice the script, and once it's all recorded, edit it in such a way that makes you sound like the professional you seem to want to be.

She was to lazy to go into the options and change the default delay of combos. The game has no delay. Her brain does.

Anyone that wanted in could get in.  It was open beta for all intents and purposes

This is MMORPG.com.  It isnt worth the effort.

Because of the presentation.  WoW has good quest presentation too.  Both those games actually have interesting stories to tell.  TERA does not.

    - You complain about the inability to cancel abilities and then complain about not having an ability queue.  That makes me laugh.  Tera combat is all about positioning and timing.  If you had an ability queue you would probably just be complaining about how you're constantly having to sit through abilities you can't cancel.

The ability delay doesnt affect everyone.  SWTOR runs quite smoothly for me.  Not that I havent run into the occasional issue, but 99.9% of the time SWTOR runs smooth.

    - I am a smidge curious how, at level 17, you only have about 4 abilities bound?

The thing is, TERA is highly praised for its combat and its easy to think...'thats it?'.  The difference between tab targetting and aiming isnt as severe as some would have you believe, and 1234 is such a gross oversimplifaction.   For instance, most specs in WoW dont even use a rotation, more of a priority system which often ncludes managing buffs, debuffs and DoTs.

Again, this is MMORPG.com, not exactly a professional site.  Your 'points' are grossly exaggerated and you have even less credibility than she does.

Needs more strategy then your stagnant MMO

Inability to cancel the move is what makes you think before spamming your buttons, if you hit a move that has a long attack and you get yourself stuck in a position that leaves you exposed to a monsters big attack well, good fight. Nevermind the fact if you're just spamming attacks you'll run out of mana in no time, you need to use your mouseclick attacks between your combo-chains to make sure your mana never dips too low because you need mana to dodge or block, getting stuck in a situation with no mana is never good.

Also you can initiate a dodge or block in most cases in the middle of certain attacks, not all of them but particular ones. When fighting the BAMs or elites you're usually being weary of what moves to use and watching the monster because if he shows a tell and right then you click a big move, like i've said, you're gonna' get hit hard.

If you could just run out of any move wouldn't that defeat the whole purpose of it being difficult true action combat. It would become far too easy.

I have to hand it to you, you are trying really hard to spin an obvious negative as a positive.

To suggest that not being able to move while casting instants or being locked into skills once you click the button enhances the action or tactical feel of the combat is just mind boggling. The game decreases the ability to quickly react and change tack based on the immediate circumstance which just decreases the dynamic action feel of combat.

I think what you are really saying is the simplistic, coreographed AI would be too easy to beat if you were truly maneuverable in combat.

In CB1 I found that most, if not all mobs had such easily predictable routines that once you fought them once or twice, you knew how to beat that mob type by just stringing together a pre-determined sequence of skills and moves. I don't find that fun or "actiony", but actually rather boring.

Its true though, if you could move anytime you wanted to no matter your action the game would be far too easy when the enemies all tell how they are going to attack by animation.

Imagine how easy WoW would be if you could move and cast non-instant spells, it would be a joke. But I digress, instant spells should be able to be used on the move.

This has to be the worst recap i've ever seen.  As I watched it, I could not believe how incorrect she was on whas she was saying.  The only accurate statement she made was that they have the same mobs over and over...not even reskinned...its just the same mob with more ap and hp.  That does suck...but everything else....its just flat out wrong.  I would like to add one thing though,

Pokket, I forgive you for having a totally incorrect recap on the game, with that said, will you marry me?

    Pokket,

there are two things which stood out the most to me and your impression of Tera.

    1. the animations - from the start of the video this looked very fluid and smooth to me. You don't see this often in my opinion but also needs to be looked at in other mmo's. Definitely adds to making combat gameplay feel much more fun when this is done right.

    2. the environment / high fantasy look - certainly looked like very detailed environments but that isnt' always enough. I think in this day with the market so saturated that helps build an already good game but if you're starting out you need to stand out not blend in. So we'll have to see just how high fantasy they go and can they make that style stand out amongst other giants.

Some cool impressions of the combat and character creation but does anyone else think that Tera is going to be hard pressed to make a splash in this market? I'm not seeing the developers ace trump card that is going to draw people in right now. Maybe that'll change but so far i'm not seeing it.

    What do you think?

    @Pokket,

You can't complain about combat being movement  / avoid this and that vs other mmos as those are just "lock ur target and push 1,2,3,4,5" whatever. There's not even the avoidance factor (most of the time). Only in Rift did i find some fun bosses that actually forced you to do stupid stuff (jump, turn around, and so).

Also, you didn't mention that this game's absolutely awesomely playable with a gamepad, you probably didn't try, but it's ace using a 360 controller.

The only fear i got about TERA is the pvp. Either u go on PVP server for a total gankfest without any point, or u stay on PVE server and do the crappy BGs. Having no faction in the game forces PVP to be total anarchy, which is probably what'll make me quit the game at some point.

I also don't envy you pokket with the bazillion of retarded love declarations u get everyday, it must be quite boring. Seems that a lot of players forgot there are actually girls everywhere in the world and that they should go to town a little bit.

I remembered I posted here! Well, a few days after, but I did :p

So you mean to tell me if I made videos of myself claiming to be a great driver of cars with manual transmissions (i.e., stick shifts), you would give me a pass if I made a "first impression" video of myself driving some new model car and, all the while, I kept grinding the gears while I drove it? That's what I feel like I'm seeing in her video (i.e., somebody who claims to have gaming background who doesn't know how to do some very BASIC things like changing camera view).

The thing is, I don't believe she's claiming she's a great player or anything? She's just giving out her impressions. I can give my opinion on a car, and yet I'm not a specialist or anything. That I know how to shift manual gear because I live in a country where automatic gear is rare doesn't make me any better than you at judging cars, but I'll grant you I'd just disregard you if you told me that the gear sucks because you're not used to them. That's what I did with Pokket's video, she clearly doesn't like this kind of controls, well, I'll look for the opinion of someone who likes them if I'm interested in feedback that fits more my tastes. But that doesn't make Pokket's video worthless, it's just diverging opinions. I'm not sure I'm explaining myself too well though, so I'll just leave it at that. (god I hate that quote format). To sum up, you got to take it as face value, it's someone giving her opinion on something. DIsagreeing with her is completely fine, but most of the comments go farther than that.

It's not expecting her to "know every rope of the game" at all (nice strawman there, btw). It's being surprised and calling bullshit when she doesn't know how to operate one of the most basic controls. It's seeing past her gender and actually questioning the so-called "content" of what she has to offer

It's not a strawman argument, it's an example. I picked the most obvious one, but if you look at all the comments, you can make a whole list of what she should know, and that list is absurdly long. You might not, but clearly some people expect her to know everything.

Again, would you trust my "impressions" of a new model car if the entire time I drive it I grind the gears and keep stalling it...? Do I really know what I am talking about if I can't even shift properly (something that, after you learn how to do it, becomes almost second nature)...?

P.S. @BizkitNL -- She calls it a "review" at one point.... Just look at the last sentence in her own post (#96)....

Cherry-picking words is not classy man :p The article is called "first impression", should we expect her to double-check every word she uses because otehrwise it's going to be used against her? I'm playing a table-top game, picking words like that to justify a sily point that otherwise obviously goes against the spirit of the rules is called rules lawering, and imho it's bad form. It is a first impression, the article says so.

Edit: AWWWW YEAH the outtro is back.

You are implying that the game needs raids just because it is a MMO. I think in action based games like TERA raids would just dumb down the content to become a tank and spank.

Well, I am basing what I am saying on THIS VIDEO. When a person makes videos to guide others, it implies they view themselves as an expert or at least as somebody who is more knowledgable than others. It doesn't help when she refers to herself as our "go to person" for learning about healing and runs through a list of games she's played to establish her credibility/gaming pedigree (again, an action that is meant to establish the validity of her giving advice on the subject). So, based on her own videos and actions, I get the impression that she portrays herself as more knowledgable than most about games. The funny thing is, as I've said many times in this thread, one of the games she claims to have played is Aion. As somebody who played cleric and reached level cap not long after launch, I can tell you that one of the most basic controls you learn after learning to walk and use your skills is knowing how to change your camera view and zoom (this becomes even more important later on given the prevalence of flight in the game and the necessity of watching out for players from the enemy faction when you are in the Abyss). Honestly, if I sat down to play Tera, I would expect myself to know how to change the camera view in about 30 seconds because I've played Aion, a game that is very similar to Tera. It is VERY ODD that she does not know how to change it while claiming to have healed in Aion and she even goes as far as to make false claims about how the camera controls work in Tera during the video. So, my initial point stands.

And, I think you misunderstood what I was saying about cars... I also drive a stick, though I live where automatics are common. While you might not consider yourself an expert on cars, based on what you've told me (that you know how to shift manual gear), I would be rather surprised if your claim about knowing how to shift manual gear cars (i.e., "I've healed in Aion") was contradicted by you uploading a "first impression" video of some new model where you do nothing but grind the gears (i.e., cannot change camera view). I'm saying, if she is going to say she has played Aion and healed in it, then it doesn't make sense for people to defend her inability to change the camera by saying stuff like "well, she's new to Tera, give her a break!!!" Either she's played Aion and somehow she just never learned how to change the camera in that game (which is really hard to believe for me), or she wasn't being truthful...  or, she was just being lazy in the Tera video and made a BS claim about not being able to change the camera view/zoom. Which reason it really is, I can only guess (sloppiness? laziness? lack of skill?). But, if you have other explanations, I'd love to hear them because I can't see how a vet of Aion can't figure something like this out and even goes as far as to make erroneous claims about Tera's controls in the process of blowing my freaking mind with her apparent ineptitude.

Excuse me, but you were responding to *MY* post, not "all of the comments." So, I responded in kind. And by saying it's not fair to expect her to know every rope of the game, you are ignoring what I was saying. I was very specific about my gripes, yet you changed the subject by expanding it to everybody's general complaints. Creating a false point that the person you are debating never made (just so that you can knock it down) is the definition of a strawman argument. As I said before, what I expect of somebody who claims to have played Aion is that he/she SHOULD KNOW HOW TO CHANGE THE CAMERA VIEW (or if they don't, it should take them all of a few minutes to figure it out).

P.S. @BizkitNL -- She calls it a "review" at one point.... Just look at the last sentence in her own post (#96)....

Cherry-picking words is not classy man :p The article is called "first impression", should we expect her to double-check every word she uses because otehrwise it's going to be used against her? Considering you are responding to something that isn't even directed at you, who are you to talk about what is and isn't bad form? Even so, I am pointing out that she herself makes this small mistake by letting the word "review" slip into her own comments about the video. So, when people like BizkitNL tear into her detractors because it's an "impression" and not a review, i think it's fair to point out that even she slipped the wrong word in there earlier in this thread. I just find it obvious whiteknighting if somebody attacks her detractors for using that word, but ignores when she does the very same thing.

I had left this topic alone and was happy to let the whiteknights do their thing while I concluded that her opinions and any other videos of hers that get posted are not worth my time. I'm not really sure why you reopened this can of worms. I know that nobody is perfect with a new game, but stuff like changing the camera view is pretty elementary and it is very suspicious that she doesn't know how to do this type of stuff in this video. It obviously makes me think she is being guided about what to say in her videos and people are hoping to cash in somehow on "cool gamer chick" making videos about something she doesn't really get. I could be wrong, but there are a lot of valid complaints in this thread and people who are noticing many of the same inconsistencies that I see.

There are a lot of game reviewers out there. Some are guys, some are girls. While I'm completey positive a lot of the people defending Pokket here are only doing so because she's an attractive girl, the fact that she has "girl parts" shouldn't disqualify her from being a reviewer. Hell, anyone can give a game review. A review is just the opinion of one human being. Anyone that can explain their opinions in more than half a sentence can give a review.

You dont see her at all until the end of the video for a brief moment, so I doubt she's doing this just to be eye-candy. She'd be getting a lot more screen time if that were the case. I'll agree she sounds very scripted, but as far as game reviewers go, I've seen better, but I've also seen much worse.

I just have to say it again...wow, what a bad review.  Could care less if the game is not for you...but the information was just 100% incorrect.  I've found that most that post reviews hit at least some key points...this gal...what are you talking about?  Sad thing is...shes giving a review on the game and she was totally lost.  At the start, you could see her trying to get up the vine and she didn't even understand how...lol

What exactly was incorrect about the review? I haven't played the beta, but I am interested in the game, so I'd really like to know. I thought this was all just one person's opinion and people were rabidly disagreeing, but if info is incorrect, thats another story and I'd like to know just where the discrepency lies.

I dont care if she's good at the game or not or if opinions clash. I'm just curious what was said that was factually untrue.

After her last Tera video I can't imagine there being a reason to watch this video.  She is eye candy and no substance. In her last video she pretty much proved that she is a fake gamer.  It was not only that she was playing terrible but rather how she acted in vent.  She was in a Tera beta group and kept dying over and over because she kept walking blindly into a tailwhip.   She could not even understand why she kept dying.  When she was alive all she did was hop around and contributed nothing to her group except squeel in vent  Many people  crtiticized for being a pretend player who knows little to nothing about MMOS .

It appears MMORPG.Com is trying to highlight her as their new rising star.  Unfortunately she seems to have even less knowledge than their normal writers. Which said quite a bit.   I guess they must believe the fanbase here will watch a video of any female playing a game regardless of what she has to say.  But then again reading most of the posts here that is not surprising.

LOL @ the 'keyboard turners' That imo is what ruins games, the 'must hold right click to turn camera, must use keyboard' etc.

IMO a good rpg has SHOOTER controls(Yup i said it) and it adds a LOT to the gameplay when your not stuck 'tab, f1, f2, tab, etc' and can actually 'twitch' a bit.

And this is coming from an old man whos reflexes are getting wrose as I age. Tab-skill waiting for que games SHOULD have gone the way of the dinosaur but they have not... beause too many people are 'afraid' to learn a new way to play that, if they spent a little time getting used to it, would enrich thier gameplay tenfold.

Pokket did a good job of showing us why TERA will be a great game as to how horribly she played it.  I'm so glad this game will weed out the keyboard turning clickers.

Not sure if 11 pages of comments is because of Tera

    Or people just love/hate Pokket
