Hard to take other game seriously...

...after just 3 day of closed Tera beta.

The graphics, the gameplay, the combat of other mmos now seems kinda meh.

Anyone else experience this?

When i saw popori and elin running around bashing monsters with huge weapons i couldn't take Tera seriously. Each to his own.

I find it hard to get past the silly asian art style with weapons neary six times as big as some characters... also dont get me started on the lancer class OMG..

Still its not a bad game to paly and really a step in the right direction..

Tho I still think AOC is currently the best looking MMORPG out there and I love the low fantasy art style of AOC.

Vindictus, Dragon Nest and C9 have better combat IMO. TERA is like slow mode to me, would rather play Mabinogi 2 when it comes out or PSO 2. Though since I am in the C9 VIP beta, that will hold my attention till then. TERA will grab quite a few peoples attention but it will only hold a very few amount of them. TERA has a huge uphill battle with retention and considering how much people are bashing SWTOR, we will see a much bigger flood of complaints with TERA.

Think its more 50/50 there. After the feedback from the Tera Sneak Peak event and the Closed beta in december 2011, the game was recieved verry well.  The main reason it was bashed on hard in asia was because it was more westernise.

I grabbed a key from Fileplanet, but I was wary of downloading it.  I've had bad experiences with Atari games in the past.  I'm glad to hear TERA's good enough to grab the attention of so many people, though.  Maybe the folks at Atari are finally getting their stuff together.  They're sitting on a lot of really good licensed franchises.

I agree with the AoC part, my biggest turn off was that those lil girl race/racoons not only look awkward to me but also have the game mechanics going for them (HITBOX!!) If they are already harder to hit at all, compensate somthing for that.

The op means: " Hard to take this game seriously " right?

It actually made me play a toon to 20 in WOW... not going to resub just needed to get TERA out of my system... the "action" combat (still don't get what the big deal is) isn't engaging enough for the terrible generic sense of MEH this game evokes in me.

So yeah taking other games seriously.

I don't know. As a healer I can confirm that the hitboxes of all classes are of the same height. Easy to test too, just use the targetted heal and aim above the Elin head and where the Aman head would have been (Aman are the tallest race). You'll see that the lock on happens even though you aim nowhere near the Elin's actual head.

We grouped up to try some stuff with archer and hitboxes (see Hitbox and Powerbalance thread). If so its handled diffrently if you try to land a 'friendly' skill. That would even kill the 'but elins are harder to heal as well' argument.

Actually, Atari is still really fudged up at the moment regarding to Tera. There are no physical CE to be ordered in NA region and it seems to be Atari's issue.

Atari is not the publisher of the game, Atari is only the distributor. En Masse is the publisher of the game.

I have to say so far they are doing a good job. ( En Masse is part of the bluehold studio or somehow connected, I think ? )

As for Tera, I am on the fence so far. I can afford to pay another sub if the game can keep my interests. I just don't know if I can last 5 CBs and still feel the same "new" feeling at OB. We shall see.

It is possible that the healing lock on is more forgiving (aka wider area of activation) than the hostile targetting. Although, I think that the targetting in general is quite forgiving, ie you don't need FPS skills to aim here.

I'd rather click and attack, I'd rather point in a direction and quasi aim. the lame old tab and mash 1,2,3 and it hits the target as long as its within 30yds in front of you trash is getting old. That system worked for when games were hard, EQ1, FFXI, those games used skills that kept you in the balance and busy even though it wasnt real time combat. MMo's these days are a faceroll of mashing 1,2,3 all dam day long with zero to little variation or consiquence . Tera was a faceroll for the first 10 levels but i see potential with the combat to keep it fresh as long as the content gets harder. Other issue with MMo's people whining that stuff is too hard, who cares, if its too hard then dont play. Folks that complain about art are funny... some of the best RPG's have this so-called style. FF series, Chrono Trigger, etc etc.... Since when has this been an issue before, most likely wow drones that have never picked up an RPG in their life. Im not hugging Tera's nuts as I dont know if i'll even buy it yet but your reasons for not playing an MMO are stupid. Pick at something worth picking at.

    I take it seriously

  • derek39derek39 Member UncommonPosts: 265

Tera was badass to me, The questing was MMOstandard but the use of story quests and cinematics spruced it up a bit.

Combat and tanking as a lancer were amazing. Especially long world boss or hard mob fights. I felt like playing Monster Hunter after the servers shut down.

Anyways you gotta try the game yourself. It's either a love or hate.

DONT JUDGE THE GAME UNLESS you've made it to level 22 and have taken out some world bosses and have been through dungeons. The boss fights are where the game shines. I'll be subscribing for a long time. =]

    Monster Hunter since '04!
    Currently playing: MHW & MHGU

It is kind of sad that retailers don't have a phsycial CE listed.   At least En Masse put it on the company store page so people can order it.

That level of whimsy is actually something I do like.

In WoW, the human females had WAY oversized weapons. It was baller. That was one of the main reason I played them for a while. It looked funny and was fun.

I am trying to decide between a Castanic Lancer (75% sure I will do that) or an Elin Warrior, because the coolness of the Castanic Lancer is battling the cuteness/funniness of the Elin Warrior.

I also tried out the Elin Berserker, though I had no interest in the class, because I saw how funny it looked in a PVP video.

Someone please make a good MMO.

    I don't take TERA seriously.

It is a Fantasy MMO, so I play it for some Serious Fun.

Also, TERA's UI is easy to get around in, and it has a lot of convenience features; like automatic bag-sorting, and chat bubbles, etc. Yet SWTOR has none of this, not even chat bubbles... from a company which makes Role-Playing Games, go figure...

God this is a welcome feature in any game.

This poll sucks.  I can't take it seriously.  Where is the option of yes I played the beta, but I didn't hate or love it?  Because that's how I felt about it.  It's just another ho hum MMO that still misses what I want in a game yet offers enough to keep my occupied in the first month or 2 to make the box fee worth it.

I felt similar, only for a different game.  I don't like all aspects of SWTOR but the story has killed other mmos for me.  First I tried to play the 1-20 rift with my son, for something we could both play together and I just couldn't do it.  Then I tried TERA over the weekend, and thoroughly loved the combat, but really disliked most other aspects of it.  If I could get SWOTR and TERA to have a one night stand I would love the story of TOR and the combat of TERA in the same game.

Not really... It's one button that I'd rather see removed than have in every MMO. I tend to arrange my bags in the (for me) most effiecient way possible. Click on this silly thing and BAM, I can start all over. Had it happen in more MMO's where this button was added :s

man dont even play talking about leveling in wow till L20, its the worst part from WOW itself, i remember coming from GW1 and triyed to leveling my orc on WoW and after L6 i was completely bored, no story no skills (no mounts) no nothing in WoW pre L40, i believe these days its even worse.
Tera its a new generation game, and if you pass first 30 levels, you will really enjoy the game, the only complaint i have about the game its his bad world pvp design...

    This.

This game could have Tekken level combat, but the first time I see 10 year old girls swinging around what would be 300 pound battle axes is likely make me wish for a 3rd palm for my face to go into.

Somebody said something about autosorting inventory... now THAT sounds pretty sweet.

  • MardukkMardukk Member RarePosts: 2,222

I didn't make it far in this game as the stop to cast an instant destroyed the combat experience.  Am I supposed to kite?  I'm guessing kiting is quite difficult if you are starting and stopping even push of the skill.  Am I supposed to tank all mobs as a caster?

The landscape graphics were good, the character graphics and animations were not good.  The art style is also not for everyone.

I can't say I recommend the game and I will not be playing.
