A couple of weeks ago, we asked you, our valuable readers, to vote for those games you feel merit being called "Best of" for 2011. We have those results today so keep reading!
Well, it wasn’t without a few road-bumps in our voting process (which we’re 100% did not cost anyone to lose their vote), but the weeklong Player’s Choice Awards voting is over and the winners are all but officially announced. Heck you can see how the results came out in the official feature still, if you’d like. But in the process of ceremony, let’s go ahead and give the winners their due, shall we?

No game made now or in the next 10 years will win over EvE in best game.
That is because any time any site has a vote award, it is linked on the Official Forums and they come in droves to vote, usually whilst they are 'waiting' for something to happen ingame
Guild Wars 2.. can not wait! And League of Legends.. well deserverd. Amazing game. The way F2P should be (even if some items are on the expensive side).

Not hating EVE at all but tbh Rift was out in 2011 did nearly everything right and EVE released long ago and created a lot of controversy with their leaks and didn't do anything special in 2011 so RIFT should be considered the best mmo of 2011 imo.
And Rift just made it with 0.5% before SWTOR as the most innovative mmo. Seriously RIFT had many more core mmo functionalities and new cool ones like invasions and rifts invading a zone and killing npcs and fighting one another.
And I don't understand why mmorpg.com said they can't put SWTOR as best game for 2011 because it released on 20th of december but still put it in Most innovative category.
This poll is a failure.

Eve won game of the year? Again? How many times has that game won on this site in the past decade? I really have to question the validity of polled contests/voting anymore. I thought Rift got game of the year? Which it quite well earned.
Seems like good results.
Even tho I do not play EVE anymore I can understand why it is voted game of the year.
If a person only visited this site, they'd think Eve was the most successful, most loved, most subscribed to MMO in history.

Every year since i joined this site? (or feels like it). i.e. in comparison to games released in 2011, it wins based purely on expansions?
They should just give it it's own award called "EvE is so awesome, it doesn't need an award" award, and omit it from everything else, as it's getting ridiculous now.
I remember going through the vote and saying out loud:
REALLY!?!?
to the limited choices and seriously questionable decisions for some of the categories for it..
That hybrid category was damn near rigged for league of legends, and Rift was good for a laugh after most all of it's player base complained about it having no content and not being innovative whatsover..
What the hell was going on here...
Rift's winning was well deserved but EVE? again? really questionable voting when Eve wins every year and only on mmorpg.com.

I like EvE, played it for a long time.
Is it year after year the best game ever released, in 2004, 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010 & 2011? Perhaps not.
Meh~ Not surprised with these results. Heck, Guild Wars 2 has won the Most Anticipated Award for a lot gaming websites, for the past 2 years and Eve always gets the Game of the Year Award here. lol
Rift did not deserve to be on that list.

EVE Online won because we (EVE players) like to take candies from child-oriented MMO's
It was an open vote, for a niche game to out vote more popular games every time means fans of other game really don't like EVE as much as its players does? You can easy link the vote to say the Rift forums. But would they come in droves? If the answer is no then maybe it really didnt deserve to win the vote.

Guild Wars 2 and The Secret World are the two I'm waiting for. I expect GW2 to be solid if not brilliant, and I hope The Secret World surprises us all in a good way.

If write in votes could have been included, most of the winners would be quite different. This poll is bullcrap! How can you guys call it Player's choice when it is YOU the editorial staff who pick the nominees?!?!

It would appear the Eve lovers are a bit fanatical and set up voting campaings / bots each year. Nothing against the game, but it definitely lost it's relativity a long time ago.
I got news for you guys. I voted for Eve. I hate that game with a passion. I hate sci-fi, I hate space, I most definitely hate accounting and spreadsheets, not a single thing about that game appeals to me.
I voted for it as game of the year. It won, because as full of crap as it is, every other option in that list was worse. I don't care that it's 'niche' or that I don't want to play it, I respect that it tries to do something different rather than try to be a clone of every other game out there.
