IMHO a game that is set in present day with no levels or classes needs to have non combat activities (some call it crafting) that reflect that.

In other words. Id like to see less armorsmith/weaponsmith and see more alternative style of non combat gameplay.

    Fashion Design
    Dog/Cat breeding
    Salt Water Aquarium building
    Bonsai cultivation
    Parkour/skating
    Urban Art
    Turntablism
    Modern Chef

I also think this game is screaming for persistent player housing. Im not talking about instanced housing. Im not talking about going out into the woods a plopping down a house. Im talking about deve created apartment buildings and condos that players can rent, populate, decorate, have people over, throw parties etc.

I sit on a man's back, choking him and making him carry me, and yet assure myself and others that I am very sorry for him and wish to ease his lot by all possible means - except by getting off his back.

Are you talking about the kind of thing that is found in EQ2? Cause my bachelor pad in Qeynos is/was the ****! Soooo many hours and plat spent making that place into the coolest thing i could, what with the decorating and resizing and moving stuff vertically and horizontally to maximize space and aesthetics :D good times... I'm all for that!

Yeah everything you mention Danny would be great in this game, but i think you will have to wait for patches or expansions to get that, except clothing/fashion which i hope will make it to launch. They have said crafting will be somewhat sandbox'ish so lets cross our fingers :)

    yeah here's hoping :)

All I know is that if they have you run around gathering ore to make a machine gun I'm gonna kick this game so hard it will see the curvature of the earth.

Aaw man, that'd be really great. I can also already picture cross combination crafting, for example a dog/cat breeder can combine Modern Chef to gain a sub specialism 'Asian local cuisine' :D

Rather i will do a small prediction, crafting will be compleetly useless in TSW, its a subcription+Cash shop game were "looks"  are defined by the amound of cash you put into it.

No mather how good this game and its mechanics will be, the double money grind will always overshadow the entire game.

To this I have to say, Anarchy Online has some of the most involved crafting I ever done to date. admittly some of the stuff wasnt the most useful ever, but I have to say I loved the crafting for that.

If they can bring out something for now, that was as good as the crafting was for AO back then, I be a very happy person.

    Haha why not :D

@Szasz yeah something like eq2 housing except not something you load into, but part of the landscape. See that massive apartment building downtown? Yeah, I live there. Great view.

who knows. housing is something that funcom has done in the past, maybe they bring it across to this game.

i also remember crafting in AO, and the broken recipes that are still ingame after more than 10 years. it was totally overdone, complicated and messy. at some point i could not do low lvl implants anymore (with high lvl nanoprogramming skill the quality went up and the materials would not fit anymore and the resulting item was too high for the person who wanted it etc.). before the 1st expansion came out i needed 3 sets of armor and tools to be able to make the highest stuff + 2 different professions buffing me (talk about failed gamedesign ?). keep it simple and fun, thats a good crafting system.

It's Funcom. I am sure they will have some stellar innovative ideas. And then they will release the game with their typical horrid execution/coding of said ideas. Don't get pissed at me. Thats their company history.

Crafting... I would love to see some good crafting. They can start with the game itself and craft a decent one then we can go from there. AOC tech bed for this someone stated...I wouldn't bring that up at all if it were true. INSTANT PASS for a few million people right there. Not because of any tech related stuff mind you. But because soooo many gamers can recall vividly about the epic fail they had the misfortune of buying into with AOC.

Housing would be nice. Really nice. Maybe thay can do that. last I checked its 4 walls a door and a roof for a a house in game. They might be able to handle that.

Regarding execution/coding of TSW, I think it will be very good. They are using the AoC engine, so they have had nearly four years of bugfixing in a live environment at launch.

About housing, it looks like they won't do it before they can integrate it into the gameplay in some way. Just adding housing to have another check on the featurelist isn't how they roll with TSW. It's not a repeat on the management done with AoC, something most should be pleased to hear. ;)

There are two things I focus on in a game (other then leveling of course...) pvp and crafting. If I can have both I'm a happy camper. :D

Crafting is an essential in most any game I play ...ESSENTIAL..I need variety. pve...crafting...housing......and FACTION vs FACTION CONFLICT  are the elements in my ideal fantasy world.

Crafting discovery...reverse engineering....economy thats crafting driven,.  YES !

Yep persistant housing is a terrible game killer.  All housing should start as UO is and get better from there.
