What is/are your most epic gaming moment(s)?

Trolldefender99Trolldefender99 Member UncommonPosts: 416

Well, I was thinking of the old games I used to play...and these definitely stick out as epic moments. They involve two separate Age of Empires 2 games I played against other people.

The first one was a really long game...it got to 3 hours long. Most people would be too annoyed these days if someone did that in a RTS game, but back then people didn't really care and was kind of a strategy in itself. A lot of the games lasted 1+ hour, not what you see in RTS's anymore. At least in AOE2 that was the case. Well, we started off with I believe it was either 4 vs 4 or 6 vs 6...one of those two...I think it was the latter. We created a great wall of china across a quarter of the map and all our cities were connected. We had walls between ourselves too. Well, the grand strategy didn't actually work...my five allies got defeated really fast, our defenses failed and the other team just owned us within an hour.

I managed to send off peasants to a new area of the map. I rebuilt, trying to outlast them. Since there was a rating system, I didn't want to lose my rating :P They found me. I sent new npcs off again (did this 5-6 times), and was hidden on a random part of the map. I built up as they tried to search for me. I had NO resources at all, so all I could build were some weak ranged units. I did manage to build a small wall and when they found me...I lasted around 45 minutes as I built new units and repaired the walls. Eventually after a 3 hour or so game, my last guy got killed.

My most epic moment though in AOE 2 was amazing and actually used some skill. In AOE2 if you built trebuchet, you could blast your way through forests. Well, it was me vs someone else and we both had impenetrable defenses. It was pretty much a stand still and no one was winning (or losing). Well, I very slowly made a path through this huge forest (it was a heavy forest map) and created a little clearing area I made with the siege weapons. Built a camp for units, and built up my forces. Made sure my defenses were still defended and all not. Well, eventually I was ready and broke through the forest...which led me right behind his base.

I pretty much made short work of him. He did try to rebuild in another map, but it was pretty much over after that.

That was a pretty epic moment and my two best memories of Age of Empires 2.

Do you have any memories of any game?

Welll...I have a few but I guess Ill just go with my first totally epic moment in gaming.

It was 3 AM and I just finished the 149th (or somefing..I forgot...) sidequest in Tomba 2.  There was only one last thing I needed to do and that was to get on the mine cart and dash through the mines in less than 1 minute iirc.  The last thing I had to do before finishing Tomba 2 100% o.o

I went at it like a raving lunatic! Trying one time after the other , always being soooo close to finishing it.  Then at 6:30 AM I went ofr my last run because I was falling asleep....Then I finally finished it and ended my last sidequest, earning me my 100% complete tomba 2 save file.  I jumped on the couch, ran around a bit then passed out.  When I woke up my mom apparently saw my ps1 on and she turned it off.  I never saved it -.-  So I did it again when I woke up and saved then went off to brag to my cousin through yahoo before going off to finish bomberman racing! @_@

I have quite a few from DAOC PVP...but the one I'll talk about here comes from Counterstrike 1.6. I joined a server that was probably something like 10v10 or so, and they were playing the Italy map.

The way Counterstrike works is that the game is played in rounds. Each round lasts something like 5 minutes or so. Once one round is over, everything resets and another round immediately begins. In a round's 5 minutes, if you die, then you can't play until the next round starts. Each map has an objective for both sides. For the Italy map, the counter terrorists have to win by (a) killing all the terrorists, or (b) saving all the hostages and bringing them to the rescue point. The terrorists win by (a) killing all the counter terrorists, or (b) not letting the hostages be rescued in the 5 minute round.

When I joined the server, the round had already started. Normally if you join a server after a round has begun, then you can't play until the next round. But since nobody had died yet from either side, it let me play and spawned me in the game as a terrorist. As soon as I spawned, literally all 9 of my teammates were killed, while they killed only about 5 counter terrorists. So it was me versus about 5 counter terrorists. Since I joined late I didn't have the time to buy proper weapons or armor, and since I joined late, the counter terrorists were already very close and closing in on my position at the spawn point.

So it was me with a glock and no armor in the small house with the hostages, and 5 counter terrorists with proper weapons and armor bearing down on me. Luckily for me, they didn't invade the house as a group. I ran downstairs and picked off the first guy who came through the front door with a headshot. Thinking that another would be right behind him, I ran upstairs and out onto the porch to pick off anyone else about to go through the front door. I didn't see anyone, but I could hear footsteps right below me, so I jumped off the porch and ran in the front door and killed the guy that had just entered the house. 2 down, 3 to go. As I was on the porch, someone else was taking shots at me from a farther position. It looked like he was providing cover fire for his friend somewhere. So I ran upstairs to the back window where counter terrorists sometimes try to sneak in and sure enough, here comes some dude jumping up the boxes. I jumped out and probably scared the shit out of him, icing his ass cold. I run around the house and again pick off another dude that had just ran into the house, I think it was the guy who was providing the cover fire. I'm still alive, still using the glock even though I could have picked up one of these other dude's weapons because everything happened so fast, and there is one CT left.

I don't remember how I wasted the last guy but I remember I had to go look for him in the market area. There might even have been a 6th CT somewhere I had to go kill as well. I kill them and then a new round started, and I got to read all the comments in the chat from people who were watching saying how badass it was. My heart was beating like I was on amphetamines.

WoW before dungeon finder: Going to Uldaman with too low level group after SM had gone well with the same group. I was healing. In last boss last phase I got 3 adds on me (not tanks fault, those adds are nearly impossible to tank), ran out of mana, and got killed. Then used soulstone mid-fight, continued healing, got those same adds on me again, and got killed second time. But I managed to heal just enough that the boss died before our tank ran out of hp and we beat the instance.

EDIT: I remember that moment for 2 reasons

1: Really fun group and we were constantly challenged, it was fun

2: I had never even considered using soulstone when my party was in a fight before that. I managed to invent new strategy mid fight. I wish MMOs had more of those moments when you can/have to invent something new in mid-fight instead of just following routine /EDIT

    1. 1,000 vs 1,000 raid in Aion day after they merged the servers on Vaizel and Asmos barely came out on top and cap'd Kysis by 1% with like 1min left on the clock. It does not get more epic then that.

    2. Aion ahd a few. After Hate transfered to Vaizel and went head to head against Aphotic and had some pretty intense 20 vs 20 fights. Imagine farming mobs at a fort and all of a sudden some of the most geared hardcore pvp'rs on the servers come flying by in a huge fight 20v20.

    3. First time I got to do a zone event in Rift

Mine has to be back in 99!

Me and a friend had just installed Everquest on my new PC. it was my first online game and my first PC.

I started a Ranger and spent the whole night playing and learning all about corpse runs. I made around level 5 and decided to go exploring. I went out into Butcherblock mountains and close to the zone bumped into two more players. I told them i had heard there was a boat around this area, and they gave me directions and told me to stay on the paths as i was too low to survive the trek else.

My next question was " and how much will this boat cost me " they just laughed and sent me on my way. my excitment overwhelmed me. May not sound like an epic moment, but as it was my first real contact with other online players it was a moment i never forgot.

Second moment would be the first time i got charmed in mistmoore. i spent 45 minutes stuck with my owner, until eventually he made me go and attack a high level druid that was camping the tower. the druid simply rooted me and said " aww how cute " killed the mob controlling me and buffed me as i appologised as best i could.

One of my favorite moments was when I first did a level bombing raid in World War II Online. There was about 25 or so DB-7's in our group plus another handful of escorts.. we took off from the airfield and got in formation (which is pretty cool to see in-game - picture something like this [but more people]). Soon enough we're on our way to bomb German factories. image

These factories are pretty deep in enemy territory. It takes something like 30 minutes each way (depending where you're flying from). So if you're flying there and for some reason you don't drop your payload.. well, it could be a big waste of your time. So you gotta be out on the lookout for enemy interceptors. It's pretty scary!

Well, that's what happened. We're about 5 minutes from our destination and a huge swarm of interceptors come screaming towards our way. We can't break formation -- as it would take too long to reform -- so luckily we had our escorts with us. They manage to take the tension off of us and a huge dogfight ensues.. but we still took a huge hit. There's just about 10 of us bombers now (including myself).

Finally, you can see the town coming up so you ready your bomb sites.. but that's when it's the most intense because there's flak all around you and you're not sure if there's another wave coming.

Thinking back on this there's a lot of intense moments during this game. Like joining a 60+ man paratroopers and dropping outside of town.. making your way to flag points and seeing everyone get mowed down. Crazy times, I tell ya.

Getting PKed for the first time in Ultima Online north of Britannia on Day 1. I was walking north, saw a whoooole lot of corpses, and the next thing I know some guy is casting a bunch of fireballs on me. My first time as a ghost! OOOoooOooOOOOooO!

Camping and killing my own guild master in UO to steal his castle key so that we could use it as a PK house for my friends. We of course lost the key not very long after ... before the secure houses :)

Befriending my next door neighbor in UO for a good few months, having her friend me to her house, and then basically looting what I could dry of the home and having her throw a fit at my keep doorstep the day after. I then proceeded to kill her until she stopped accepting my resurrections.

An untold amount of UO conversations and PvP experiences; PvP, factions, etc.

Two of my favorite epic moments in MMOs:

A three hour war between our guild and a nearby guild for control of the last remaining key to a castle in a great location. At the time, the person that controls the key, controls the structure.

In Shadowbane when we gathered our forces and smashed through the walls of the seemingly impregnable Val haven city on Treachery.

I don't think  I've really actually experienced anything epic in the past 7-8 years and, yes, I have gone on raids but I don't find anything 'epic' about them.

There isn't a "right" or "wrong" way to play, if you want to use a screwdriver to put nails into wood, have at it, simply don't complain when the guy next to you with the hammer is doing it much better and easier. - Allein

2 hour long Warsong Gulch match (back before timers and the debuff for flag carrier)

Me and 2 other rogues sneaked into the horde base and sized up their flag carrier. It was a druid in bear form with 2 priests for heals. The rest of their team was going to our base. So we sap both priests at the same time and start attacking the druid. I was holding my stunlock for when he shifted to cheetah form so I could do more damage. The priests both trinket out of sap and heal the druid, who decides to run anyway. So we all burn down the priests quickly knowing the druid will escape anyway. Now we all sprint outside looking for the druid, and see he's running to midfield. This is where it gets crazy, our flag carrier got flushed out of our base and was running around midfield too! So now all 20 people are converging to the mid with both flags there. Their flag carrier is really low on health and starts running to the health power up. Im in stealth, right in front of the building ( just chased down an oom priest trying to get the same buff) and I see him coming. As soon as he walks by, I get a cold blood ambush crit and he drops. I return flag and see our FC die only to have a rogue grab the flag and sprint away up the tunnel for victory.

    Man I miss old WoW

I'm assuming this question is directed at mmo gaming moments, if so I'd say it'd be a toss up between a few from various games.

*Planetside's cybercafe early access was an amazing experience all around. Another moment from Planet side, was post release after flying a phoenix rocket from our outside APC spawn into a ground mounted Terran max suit located at the enemy base's generator. Definitely a success kid moment after that.

*Star Wars Galaxies: Attaining padawan after getting master dancer, master doctor, master smuggler, absolutely hated my holocrons T_T.  Kiting 3 krayts to Mos Espa, definitely hilarious. And practically taking over naboo as rebels.

*World of Warcraft: Scoring 2nd as a paladin on Gilneas' 2nd ever alterac valley, a match which lasted 40hrs, only scored 2nd due to Blue and I being the only original members. Not to mention the following Tarren mill vs Southshore fights that ensued because of that match.

*Guild Wars: Watching RenO get wiped out by a clutch treb shot, brilliant timing for RUS. Come to think of it, there were plenty of moments where you would see great or hilarious use of siege weapons in that game. Being able to watch matches is great, you never know what you may find when browsing around.
