But every single quest in wow (and rift ) is kill X or bring X to NPC, except they have no interesting story or dialog to go with it like TOR.  It's also just as linear since you grind quests 1 area at a time.

WOW has an open world, but there isn't anything to explore in it and 90% of it is terrain made by a fractal generator using copy/pasted pre-fab models for buildings etc.  TOR is hand crafted so it has a lot more detail.

Defending it because not everyone has same experince as yours? more like dis agreement than defence. For example i have zero issue with combat responsivness and i find animations to be smooth. My only one abilty gets stuck every now and then.

If you find cut scenes boring that is matter of taste what has polish got anything to do with you not liking the custcenes and V.O? the quests are what you get in themepark MMO but they made it engaging with voice overs. No one said quests were going to eb any different. Every themepark MMO quests or no quest you will either spend time killing x, or escorting or fetching something.

Most of the things you listed are your personal taste and no amount of polish can change that. All they can do is fix some abilities that get stuck and add more life to cities and world in general.

Hoth, Alderaan, Balmore, Tatooine..all are huge planets open for exploration. No one will stop you from going in to dune sea and get owned once you are done with tutorial area and get your own ship So what is stopping you from exploring?

I will pay 15 dollars (about 10 pounds a month) for any blockbuster big-budget mmorpg game that keeps me entertained for a couple of hours every day and in which I can game and chat with mates.

I will pay it for SWTOR because it really is very good: it has a lot of polish; my mates are playing; and it has a triple-buzz about it: the buzz of being new, the buzz being Bioware big-budget and the buzz of having many players.

The way I see it, a trip to the movie theatre in Japan with the wife (we love movies and go once a month) costs us about 5,000 yen which is about 40 pounds for 3 hours of entertainment. If a game can give me on average of 30 hours of entertainment a month for a tenner (10 pounds) then sure, I'll pay up gladly.

The challenge for SWTOR is that there are a lot of former big or reasonable budget paid sub mmorpgs that are now free to play: LOTRO, WAR, AOC and so on. The industry has changed somewhat because of this and so paid sub games will have to justify their subs all the more to keep people paying.

For now I am very happy to pay. I will see what happens endgame and see what happens with updates and expansions to see if it keeps my subs. I love SWTOR right now, I have a good feeling about SWTOR for the future so I am confident they can and will be as successful as WOW in retaining a paid sub base.

Of course if they fail and it goes the the way of WAR, AOC, LOTRO then it is no biggie either as I will just hop about playing for free but with diminished expectations.

So yeh I would pay and I am paying. I am "honestly" "actually" paying for it and the reason why is because it is "honestly" "actually" a great deal of fun.

    Regards

To anyone who tries to argue "oh well WoW wasn't perfect on launch"...my question is "Why did you guys expect Rift to be?". Why the double standard? TOR gets a pass for how many months before we start calling it incomplete and missing key mmo features?

Hi Puremallace, I remember you from Rift forums, just want to say that because internet trolls and wowkiddies tried to kill Rift, that doesn't mean that you have to take it on newer games. Also, all the points relating clunky combat and choppy animations are user related. TOR won't run on the same crappy hardware as, say, WoW.

Me, me!!! I haven't had this much fun in a mmo in a very long time. There is lots of very strong f2p these days, which is true, ut you are talking one trip to the movie theater with snacks or three cups of coffee. What matters to me is not the paltry entrance fee, but am I having fun. While that answer is a resounding yes then of course I will subscribe, Wouldn't you?

Game will probably lose me in the future due to how they communicate with people.  I do not use Twitter and do not want to.  If that is their only way of putting info out about stuff...ehh just puts me off and some others I know.  They have a webpage, use it.  I do not want some idiot developer's tweets.

Its an MMO with a very well done single player aspect.  What do games like WoW and Rift really have that SWTOR doesnt content wise?  Arent they all solo to cap, raid/instance/pvp/dailies at cap?  Anyone who tries to say SWTOR isnt a full MMO is either trying to troll or incredibly stupid.

It is clear with this post you have either A.Not played the game B.Not made it past level 10 or C. Just so worked up that everyone left you guild from another game to play TOR.

    1. Camera angles? Maybe its time to update you PC I have had no issues.
    2. Linear? Well if you played the game or made it past level 10 you would know how ignorant this claim from the hater is. Have you been to Balmorra? Its huge! Have you found any Datacron? Oh you have to explore for them? Found any world bosses yet? I could go on and on.
    3. Cutscenes? Really you would rather read pages of pointless text like in other games.
    4. I can agree with this one to a point, but if you ever made it to a heroic area you would know there are patrols.
    5. Another misleading ignorant point the haters bring up. The quest are NOT kill 25x those quest are always optional.
    6. Why pay $15 because the game is fun! This game has endless amout for dev to update thats why all mmos have sub fees.

Its clear the whiners and crying babies have no clue what they are talking about. Go back to your game I have nothing against it. And on behalf of all of us playing TOR I am sorry you are the only one left in your guild.

    1. Camera angles can be adjusted, the camera speed and the camera distance too. if your camera movement is stuttery then you should start lowering your graphics.

    2. Open world is just out there. I clearly don't understand how you fail to see where the world is.

    3. If you are not enjoying a story driven gameplay, where you actually care what will happen next, and how your choices will effect the outcome of the story, this is not the game for yo anyway. But if you really feel like still playing just to whine at other people, and you get too bored during the cutscenes, you can use spacebar to skip them and just randomly mash buttons for conversations as you don't care about anything anyway. You can also auto-skip every cinematic by a selection from options menu.

    4. It is obvious that you only played a few levels on your home planet where patrolling isn't used much to help people get their ways around the lower levels easier. On Higher level planets, mob packs actually spread onto the roads, make barricades, rush down the roads to stop you and position themselves on your way, patrol everywhere. The follow the road and you will be safe story doesn't always work here.

    5. This is an mmo based on leveling and there is no other genius idea yet to solve the problem of: 'how will we make people go outside and kill things?', questing means you kill this you kill that you collect this you collect that and you return, deal with it.

But in my all time of leveling now, i infiltrated enemy bases, sabotaged spaceships, poisoned water supplies, sabotaged clinics and treatment facilities, i blew up communication towers, got enemy's stationary giant weapons nuked from the air and did many other things that i didn't do in another mmo i played.

BUT if you are still sick of killing 10 of this and 10 of that and if it bothers you too much to go and pick up something for an npc, you still have options. PVP will actually give you very good xp, AND if you don't want to PVP cause you will start whining it is unbalanced before you even play it, you can go and do space missions for fast xp. Or if you don't want to do that either, you can just do flashpoints.

Still i doubt all these will make a difference for you. Because you want to have a way of leveling by blankly looking at the screen and the xp will rain from the sky.

    6. You obviously didn't play the game at all and all you say are stuff you heard or read from other whiners. Even if you did play the game, it simply doesn't satisfy you, or you just don't want to understand it or enjoy it, or you have a real old  computer and you are having trouble playing it, thinking the grapics are not fluent, and you just don't want other people to play it either.

The funny thing is Puremallace often brings up things anti-swtor that are the exact same in Rift.  The only valid points in the list also apply to Rift, and usually more so.  ie linear world, unimiganitive quests.  and both games are filled with static NPCs.

I would at least for 2 months.  After that it is going to depend on how world PvP shapes up and the Legacy System.  If they add some sandboxey features here and there, etc. to keep me entertained at end game besides raids.  I will do each raid once or twice, do warzones a bit until they bore.  I will give them 2-3 months and see what the plans are for the first expansion, etc. for sure, and I don't even really like theme park mmo's.

    Awesomely well done game.

I am not a Star Wars "geek," or a person than nitpicks over lore. Mainly because I've only read one book, and have seen all the movies. Apparently there's more to the lore than that. I'm 47 and I'm not going to go through the litany of MMO's I've played or tried to play.  For now, I'm paying, and happy to be paying.  As a matter of fact I'll be paying $60 dollars a month for myself and my three adult children to play.  I'm not saying this game is perfect, or that there aren't some irritating little bugs that crop up from time to time, but I am saying that, for now, this game is worth the subs.  I feel connected and immersed when I play. Like I'm doing my part in the story.  Leveling is more than just a grind, or a means to an end.  This is the best start to a new MMO of which I've been a part.  However, that's relative to my taste, and maybe not yours.

So far I love this community (Nadd's Sarcophagus).  You have your asshats, of course, but the number in general chat seems greatly reduced from other MMO's. There seems to be an general intolerance of the douchebaggery. Maybe that will change, but for now it's very nice.  I've grouped more in this game already than any other MMO I've played to this level and I'm only level 29. There are several layers of content for which you can group: normal questing; Heroic 2+; Heroic 4+; and Flashpoints. Which is amusing since I've read some other threads about this not being an MMO.  If you aren't grouping, there's probably a reason for that. If you get out and get to know people, add them to your friends list, and be a good "citizen" when you play, then you'll probably never have a problem getting a group. Of course you'll have those people that say, "I do all of those things and I still don't get a group." My answer to that is "probably not.'

I think it's really too early to tell how good or bad this game is going to be, but if you stack it up against other MMO's, at the same stage in their launches, it's looking promising.  Give it a little more than a week before you write it off.

If you do't like it, fine . But just because you are playing it solo when it can be played with people doesnt make it any less of an MMO. That statement was ludicrous at best.

Be honest. You never played, or never got out of the newb area did you? Seriously, if you hate the game that much, why bother posting about it? I think it's a fantastic game. Yes, I feel it is worthy of a sub. Something else I know, it's gonna get better =o).
