Healer classes?

I haven't played in Beta, from what I understand the Sage class is a healer.

What is the mirror class to the sage?

Can someone explain to me a little bit of their gameplay - is there an offensive healer class or advanced tree?

I don't mind healing as required, but I do like to do lay a little bit of smackdown as well.

Thanks!

Sage's mirror would be the sith sorcerer.  also commando, mercernaries, operatives, and scoundrels all have healing trees as well.

Also with all these healer classes they do have dps trees.  Also with itemization as is your healing gear isvery similar to your dps gear, so dpsing with your healer specced toon will be feasible.

All healers can dps in tor. That said the jedi sage mirror is the sith inquisitor , Sorcerer

Im gonna play the opposite ac on mirror classes so they play diffrent.

That said there are alot of healer classes in tor

    Sith Inquisitor Sorcerer.

and yes you can an off healer, gameplay-wise you generally stay at the back flinging lightening you also get a tank as a companion straight away.

i specced in healing and also specc'ed a little bit into other trees to buff up force lighting move, as that was my main offensive power.

as a sorc i barely ever used my lightsaber either.

In the end you just choose the one with most attractive gameplay, i was hoping for a mellee type of healer, but that isn't there. I am pretty sure for those concerned about endgame that all 3 healers will be ballanced by the time most of us reach max level.

If I play a healer, it will probably be a Trooper.  I love the idea of healing people by shooting them in the face.

I took a Sith Sorcerer to 27. Not very far but far enough to get a good feel for the class. The Sage/Sorcerer are the closest thing TOR has to traditional healers from other MMOs. You wave your hands around and good s**t happens to your mates.

The other healers look and feel much more unconventional: shooting heals out of their blasters or sending little floating robots to heal you. That's not to say that they are not effective--they are and the jury is still out on which healer will be the best in PVP, 4-man groups or raids.

Early on and certainly up to the level I played, the class has a damn good mixture of heals and DPS. It was very rare that I ever found myself doing nothing but spamming heals and you don't even have to spec as a healer to heal at that level: all sages/sorcerers get some basic heals regardles of whether you spec as a healer or DPS and up to the mid-20's those basic heals and especialy the damage shield bubble will do the job. I'm sure later on, at or near max level, speccing healing will make a huge difference and DPS sage/sorcerers will be no better than occasional emergency healers. But earlier you can mix healing with DPS as much as you want.

All in all, it's a fun class to play that appeals to me the most because it's more familiar to me. I'm sure others will prefer a different healer type.

If you do roll one, although I mentioned it above, it's worth repeating: your best tool early on is the damage shield. It's not a token shield like in other MMOs. It absorbs a good chunk of damage, especially if you spend the points to improve it. The biggest challenge all sorcerers/sages have early on is running out of force. Regardless of whether you want to DPS or heal, it's worth taking the abilities that give you +100 force and the ones that reduce the cost of all your heals or nukes by 9%. They happen to be in one of the two DPS trees but you'llbe glad you spent your points there first.

    Hope that answers your question.

As healing goes in ToR expect to be busy as a healer, its not a one key thing like WoW, you have to work at it to be effective or you run out of power/mana what ever your class uses.

Go to www.TORhead.com and play with their skill tree builder. You can experiment with healer builds there.

There are Healer "skill trees" for all classes but the Jedi Kinght ans Sith Warrior.

No dule specing so if you want to do dps and heal, you waon't be as good as a healer that focuses on a healing skill tree.

Telling people they need to perform to a BASIC level is NOT elitist and being a sycophant doesn't help incompetent people get better.

I agree to a point, being a sycophant doesn't help incompetent people get better, but simply saying "go look it up" doesn't foster a positive impression to newcomers to the game, nor to the types of people playing it.  A simple "here's a link, read on" is a far more positive, and instructive.

Yes, there is a melee healer.. Kinda.. They need to be up close for any dmg abilities. Like the IA operative, they have like Shiv and short range abilities, and stealth. So if you went up the DPS tree on the Operative, you would be like a rogue like.. With healing. I guess the same is for scoundrel, some of them get scattergun and shotguns, whish are close range.

IN those comparissons the number of Trooper skills is really really thin...

Did any one else actually play any (preferably 2 or 3)of the healing classes to mid 20 or higher, and would he be willing to share his opinions with us?

This is the internet.  You're never going to "fix" someone here whether its changing their unreasonably emotion based opinion or their habit of asking questions they could have answered in a tenth the time it takes to post on a forum, so you might as well be snarky.  The same person asking easily researched questions today will be the same person asking tomorrow no matter how many helpful links someone provides.  In fact its probably just enabling them heh.  :)

That's the only part I would disagree with.

For the better part of the past 5 months, in each build the Sage/Sorc healer has generally performed better than the other healers with very little question. It isnt just managing the "force" resource mechanic, it isnt the fact thtat an Inquisitor with a full DPS spec can main heal a flashpoint in the 40's for a group, or that they have absolutely the most utility of any healers. It's really a combination of all of them.

I dont think anyone would say "you cant heal something" with either of the other classes, you absolutely can, but it is just an easier path with more utility right now with the Sage/Sorc than any of the other healers.

It's definitely gotten closer over the past few months, but we're still in a place where they do have significant advantages.

You can DPS as a Juggernaut/Guardian but from what I've heard their DPS is subpar right now.  I'd expect that to get fixed though as Bioware has stated they intend all classes to be more or less equal for DPS.

The Sage/Sorcerer also has a single saber but doesn't focus on lightsaber attacks.

closest would probably be a Jedi Knight Guardian specing into one of the two dps trees rather than the defensive tree. While Sages also only use a one handed lightsaber most of their dps is done at a distance using force powers.

    All die, so die well.

Jedi Knight / Sith Warrior both have advanced classes which use a single lightsaber, as do the "casters". However, a DPS spec using a single lightsaber will be Gimped, because of the usual MMORPG mechanics. If you want melee DPS, you go for the Jedi Knight and the advanced class with two lightsabers, if you want casting + minor melee(?), you go for the Consular and advanced class Shadow (Do I remember right?)

Though, on advanced class Jedi Guardian, it does say "Melee DPS / Tank", so.. There you have it, the primary function however is tanking and survivability.

Edit: VikingGamer got the response before me, and spoke of DPS trees in game, which I held no knowledge of. So, perhaps it's possible, but I bet you will deal far less damage than those with two lightsabers.

We?re all dead, just say it.

  • Joshua69Joshua69 Member UncommonPosts: 953

thats kinda what a figured, looking at the talent calculators now, it seems more geared for suvivability, the tree's are vigilance , defense and focus for Jedi gaurdian. and yea i kinda figured it would be that, which is a shame. Guess ill be a tanky char, if i don't go Smuggler

*note*  Comments are limited to Imperial classes.

Well I'll admit that I didn't play bodyguard spec the last month or two.   Yet BH's were still having heat issues when pushed (based on personal experience so take it only as that).

Op's were given some nice additions but the mechanics are still a bit off.   Being able to talent Tactical Advantage to proc off the one heal is nice.   The problem from my point of view is the energy regen while actually under pressure is not much.   Plus the heal that consumed a TA charge had power cost added to it (I believe in at least one previous build that didn't have a power cost on top of TA cost).

From my point of view that's really the problem when you just think "healer".

Relatively Op/Merc have the same size power pool... 100 energy or 100 heat.   They each get an ability on a medium length cool down to replenish energy or dissapate heat.   Beyond that they both consume the available "power" relatively quickly and regenerate relatively slowly while being pushed.

Sorc on the other hand in its healing tree has a talent to most the negative effects of their force replenishment not quite so bad.   There isn't a lockout on using it... it consumes some health and hits your force regen rate but... of course you can just keep using it as long as you have health..  regen in combat is relatively slow..

but when you top that off with a 500 to 600 point pool (can get an extra 100 in the lightning tree)..  well um ya..   All 3 of those healers can heal a fight.   I can't honestly say I believe an Op or Merc is going to be able to heal through a sustained fight even close to what a Sage could do... let alone the Sage can if they need rebuild their force pool at any time without worry of a cool down... Is it really a big deal to cut your regen and just keep pushing the button to refill and heal yourself now and then.. as opposed to standing there waiting for heal to dissapait .. energy to regenerate and your only ability to do anything about it is on cool down?

Even on standard fights the same obviously is going to be able to toss in more dps than the other two because they have much less management worry on their available pool....

Like I say its just my point of view...

I have a similar point of view on the mechanic chosen for Sith Warrior (Jedi Knight) compared to the other tank classes as well...   but that's another thread and again just my opinion.

Actually I've done my basic research if you learned how to read you would know that I also asked what players thought about how the different classes played, their experiences with those classes - and what classes they thought were more offensive minded.

If you were unable to "grasp" that from my post, I suggest you go over to the forums for Hello Kitty Online where the questions are more suited to your reading and comprehension level.
