*shrug* I guess c'est la vie in the MMORPG genre.

Yes, that is my greatest fear as well.  Jumping servers to find a playable one.  One way they can do to combat this is while they stagger the early invites, lock full servers and add new ones as needed.   That way queues won't be insane.  Rift did that way, but they don't have the same pre-ordres that SWTOR is getting.   Which is probably double or triple of what they had back at early Rift start.

Does anyone know where to find a list of available NA servers?  It would be good for friends to have a backup server to go to if server A, B or C are too full.

I don't believe they have yet listed the available servers that will be deployed for the early access and launch.  I am expecting this information to get released by Dec 9th but probably not earlier than that.  I'm speculating on those dates though.

Im actually thinking of cancelling my preorder, not due to this video but due to the fact that i think i got caught up in the hype. The game will still be there after a few months, im going to check back in and see what people think about it then :)

I'm not saying you're wrong but I want folks to realize that guild deployment is a suggestion as to what server your guild can/should be on.  No guilds are required to play or be deployed on the servers listed in the guild deployment so things could still get a bit hairy as far as that is concerned.

Understood. But, honestly what's the point of signing up for it if you're not gonna use it? And yes, there will probably be plenty that don't, but I think it is a great idea is all. And it will be interesting.

DId you get to play the beta at all?

  • FrostWolfieFrostWolfie BorlangePosts: 54Member Uncommon

That i did, from the start to the end of the beta :)

    *Edit*

And with that, i mean this weekends beta, so i did get quite a few hours into the beta. Trying out all the diffrent classes i was interested in and got up to about 10 with most of them, almost fifteen with the one i was most interested in. Im not saying its a bad game, im just being slightly more cautious this time around. Been burned so many times before, either way, i will take a look at the game again in a few months :)

Well I'm glad the last beta didn't hurt it.  I enjoyed getting to play for those two days, even though by the third I really was ready to put it down.  And now no one who buys this game can complain if they don't like it after launch.  Everyone and their dog has had a chance to try it out, so either don't buy it, or buy it and like it, but don't buy the thing and then come into chat or onto the forum complaining about it.

Oh ok, yeah I can understand.  Good luck with whatever you decide :)

However, would be cool to see you in game! I did play beta and it blew me away.  And I am not a big star wars fan, but something about playing a sith really appealed to me.

I agree it was a very good beta and really gave a good insdication to all tresters as to what to expect.

It was a tough sell for me because right away i knew without a sub class design the class and combat structure would never be good enough for me.Structured like this ,your player hits level cap then you might as well retire it ,unless your into pvp which i am not and MANY are not.

If the crafting was done well, i might have had the inkling to play and utilize crafting on alts, but honestly i am not into alts and  watching my main rot is also not what i am into.Plus the crafting is not done even remotely close to what i expected.

So this game and any other that copies the EQ/Wow structures will be no more than a 2-3 month hangout then boredom sets in and is the exact reason why so many games now fall off in subs so fast.It is more than just copying, this game actually leaves out a lot of content or possible content within the strucutres that it does use. That Christmas deadline for launch is imo the MAIN culprit as to why the systems are not finished or done with depth.

Played he beta this past weekend and wanted more. I just hope that they at least triple the number of servers on launch day so that waiting in line to play won't be happening. Pre-ordered the CE less than 2 hours after receiving e-mail stateing they were available and glad I did as gamestop stopped taking CE preorders the next morning. You can still preorder the game, just not the CE as far as I can tell.

  • jpnzjpnz SydneyPosts: 3,529Member

Considering this is an MMO and thus players are more likely to buy digital copies, a 900k pre-order just for box/NA is an insane amount.

A 7M+ sales total is not outside the realm of possiblity actually.

Heh...I'm just thinking of some of the 'problems' some of the ...larger...guilds could cause if they decide to 'hop'.  I still think it'll be OK though.  Pretty sure Bioware has a set time for 'queues' before they open a new server up, and really, the queues last weekend weren't THAT bad...like I said...at one point Drexl showed an 11 hour wait, but was playable in 45 minutes (and that was a stress test)

I'm targeting the colored area here. Why I do agree that there are games out there that are just plain terrible. Your comparison of EQ/WoW as for how games fall off in subs fast is pure hogwash! EQ is still alive and it is 12 yrs old. And if your saying that it's population/retention fell off fast your out of your mind! That game and AC at the time had thousands upon thousands of people playing at that time. And I'm almost willing to bet the population in EQ right now is still higher then some games that have come out in the past 5 years!

As far as WoW is concerned your basis is even farther off. Still around 10 million subs, and if your telling me that a percentage of them haven't played since vanilla, then I'm gonna call bullshit! Retention is what you want with any sub based game, and why more people have come and gone with wow since release, the fact is. It does indeed have a high sub count. Well I'm sorry the money talks, and you know what walks!

As far as Christmas deadline goes, after playing the beta over the weekend. Only thing I can think of is brilliant! If the game was completely full of bugs, and unplayable this is the one part of your paragraph I would back you up on. But, the fact is, it is without a doubt ready for launch. Is it completely polished, no! But, not known a game ever to be perfect at launch. But, this was without a doubt, the best open beta I have participated in, as far as few bugs and most polished at this stage.

So again when you are comparing games, if you want a game to fail or do horrible. Compare it to games that have failed, not ones that haven't failed, and are still kicking after 12 years, or have a 10 million sub base.

The OP just states the latest numbers and they are well worth a topic on their own and without repeating the obvious ad neuseam "Numbers mean nuffink derp!".

As far as I'm concerned I'm very, very impressed with 900k US box preorders. Conservative projections based on past ratio's should mean 4 million + players ready to jump in at launch of a sub based game. That's developer / investor wet-dream material.

Shows the genre and payment model is alive and kicking -> good news for everyone.

p.s. sorry for color posting <3

Interesting that you are talking about latest numbers and then in the next paragraph do the same thing like so many other hypers. Bring out some amazing number of 4 million (it was 3 million and now it is 4 apparently) with no credible data to back it up.

This 900k + number seems pretty legit.

It's US box sales only and a few weeks before launch.

Current trends show that 50% of new pc game sales are digital (look it up).

I think it's pretty safe to assume that EU + the rest of the world's early adopters will roughly double the US number of sales.

Add another group of people who don't preorder but will run to the shop on the 20th/22th ...

Don't be in denial and do the maths yourself. it isn't hard.

p.s. I never mentioned a 3 mil number (as far as I can recollect). There is a thread somewhere with me predicting around 4,5 mil sales around launch and that's what I still think. Should be close or higher than that if this VGChartz number is correct.

What's next, that the game will eclipse WoWs 11 million subscribers at launch?

    Good one.

You are not doing anyone any favors by hyping this shit up, except maybe Bioware/EA.

We can all see you doing people favors at a daily basis : - /

At least my expectation of copies sold is based on a legit number and logical projections of past experiences and current trends. You can call that "hyping this shit up" all you want but it's pretty clear that your own "burning this **** down" is in a much greater sense based on pre- and misconceptions.

U know i dont understand the nothing to do pve wise at max levela argument a guy made. They have 15 falshpoints u can do on hard mode at max level, They have 2 operations they are starting with at launch. They have illum pve story to go with illum pvp stuff.

that and most people havent finsihed there class story when they hit max level so theres alot of pve stuff to do at max level. Crafting in this game when i tested it was actually fun for me. I cant wait to see how it unfolds and how much player created items actually matter to the game .

I havent got to test that so i dont know the answer.

There is tons of stuff to do at max level with yoru main. I like to roll alts and not so my main can just sit there but for something to do once my guys have run the flashpoint done the planetar stories etc, That way while im raiding i can do other stufff when im not.

one thing we dont know yet is how fast bioware is gonna release new content Since its been stated soem peple are already done with tor for relase and are already working on new content post release it will be interesting to see how fast new content , planets, and how fast they do a new expac will happen.

And in the Swtor video you where just standing there, doing nothing but clicking on diffrent skills, i'd much rather have more tactics involved... but that is just me and my opinion. I dont know all that much about Guildwars 2 except that this video, also from a world boss looked far more fun than the one i showed earlier - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BNtwF6UjkR0&feature=related - I just like idea of the tactics involved, fighting on several fronts manning cannons, defending them, fighting the dragon and so forth, up to a hundred people teaming together to take it down. this is not to say its a good game or bad, i cannot say that without having been able to try it.

But either way, i may look into Swtor in a few months again. For now, i have Diablo 3 to look forward to :)

He was spamming 1 the whole time he was using his character.......His entire rotation was 1,1,1,1,1,1,2(wait for cooldown)1,1,1,1,1,1,2. Atleast the guy in star wars had to to press more buttons........On the GW2 video he didin't even roll/evade more than once or twice...Sorry I see nothing new here. GW2 looks even more casual and has less depth in combat than  WOW or SWTOR.  thats IMO too before you fanboys go crazy. And in now way i represent other people's thoughts nor do i call this fact.

Currently Playing: SSFIV AE, SFxTekken, SWTOR, WoW. Waiting for: GW2, Resident Evil 6.

These are demo videos.  In the one you linked first, the guy had been playing the game for 17 minutes.  That's also a higher level event (text is in red), kiting probably was his only option.  I've seen video of a thief getting beaten down 3x doing the same event.

This is a developer playing PVP.  He's an elementalist and he has 25 skills.  You can see 10 of them, but he's got 3 more sets of 5 skills on the left that he swaps to constantly; fire for damage, water for support, air for control, and earth for survivability.  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KDCsXfg9HNY&feature=player_detailpage#t=21s

Sure, you've seen videos of GW2 that didn't impress you, but what if you tried to describe the combat in words? How many bullet points would you need to answer the question of what makes combat different than WoW?  There's some huge fundamental differences, but they're things that didn't show up on that video.

I'm not one of those fanboys who thinks that everybody should like GW2, but I am one of those people who thinks that everyone learn about all games and make informed choices.  I've been here on the SWTOR forums urging people to get a key and try the beta.  I tried it out, it's not the game for me, but it might be the game for you and that's fine.

I'm sure you all want people to learn all about SWTOR before criticizing it, all I ask is that you do the same thing for GW2.

Where is the innovation? this looks generic. I see nothing new here beside the guy dodging once or twice. WoW PvP is much complex than this. Sorry i don't see anything new here. Press 1,1,1,1,1,1, 2,occasional self heal, enemy close, throw down snare, dodge back. contiune with 1,1,1,1,1.  Even my frost mage required more skill in WoW and they are op :( These are all IMO ofcourse before you report me for not liking your game.

Currently Playing: SSFIV AE, SFxTekken, SWTOR, WoW. Waiting for: GW2, Resident Evil 6.

The innovation is in all those niche games that fail to ever break a half a million subs, because people just aren't interested.  MMOs don't succeed by being revolutionary, they succeed by being evolutionary, which TOR is.

Yeah, all that really matters is if you have fun playing it or not. I'm just kind of a nerd for statistics and numbers. The fact that this is going to be the largest MMO launch ever is also kind of interesting to me.

AoC I think had over 1 million pre-orders, so not the biggest launch ever but in the top 3 yes it is.

AoC needed over post release sales to hit a million total sold ( http://kotaku.com/5020731/age-of-conan-+-a-million-shipped-700k-registered ). Yes, this was number two till now. SWToR will blow this out of the water (900k preorders NA alone).

As far as largest launch, Cataclysm remains king at 3.3 million preorders ( http://www.digitaltrends.com/gaming/world-of-warcraft-cataclysm-sets-first-day-sales-record/ ).

Come on stop making up stuff. Age of Conan didn't even have 500k pre-orders.How i know because they "shipped" not sold their 1 millionth copy three weeks after release. And this is a world wide sales figure.
