No surprise there... Just one simple question - it goes 'free' as the article states, but how will things be funded? cash shop? premium subscription? Or is this a 'last resort' before they'll put it out of it's missery?

     Probably that.

I would not be suprised to see "closing" message , early 2012

I've followed and supported this game for three years. Have tested it for 6 month in the closed beta....

The problem with Earthrise was Masthead, who simply didn't listen to beta-feedback, changing some mechanics, fixing netcode etc, and rushed for release instead.

    Yeah... No thanks.

    Playing: Nothing

    Looking forward to: Nothing

Like I said in other thread. This game is so bad, that is does not really matter what business model it will have.

It is just not good enough of a product. Artworks are not bad, concepts are ok, but game itself is horrible.  Awful animations, not interesting content, not very good cooperating with community and overall it is just bad.

I remember coming across this game like 5 years ago. Was really excited for it. Forgot about it. Looking at it now, I am so glad I didn't keep following it.

Sadly, a great concept does not make a great MMO.

Sent me an email if you want me to mail you some pizza rolls.

A thousand, million, billion times this. Even if the game was literally 100% free, I would not consider the game worth playing. The only things they could possibly sell that would make them money are power ups and virtual land. Neither of which would be worth much in the game.

    ** edit **
If they open sourced the game I would consider playing. I think there are enough decent programmer types out there that the game could become playable if they let the world write it.

    Quoting article:

“We decided to let all our players unlimited gaming experience until we all are satisfied with the experience in our game.

Sort of sounds like what FFIV did as opposed to a F2P conversion with cash shop.

That is...acceptable. They should have done it sooner, but it seems like the right thing to do. Maybe they have enough money to actually make the game work.

I'm torn between letting this one go and downloading it one more time, getting a vehicle, and driving across the landscape for one more long screenshotting trip.

I'll probably do the latter, but I don't expect free to play to save this game, or to make me play beyond that.  There just isn't enough to it.  Makes me sad.

Such a shame that this marks its not-to-distant death. But on the plus side I get to try it before it goes.

What this game needs the most is more players, and if F2P gets more peeps to try the game, I´m all for it. And my guildmate has had mail contact with The Editor, and apperantly they are going to go through every bug in the game and squash it before they release it again. If they do that, then this could be one nice comeback for this game that has so much potential. But I wouldn´t hold my breath when it comes to MHS. Fingers crossed either way.

Comming from someone who recently gave this game a trial, i would have to strongly disagree with this statement.

This game isnt a "gem in the rough".  Its a dog...while the setting is fantastic the genere being scifi, and the attempt at a gun based sandbox mmorpg...you step into the game and its shocking how good some things look and how badly others (water).

You then quickly realize how boring the combat is and how buggy it is.

They need LESS people trying this game, they need to put it back into development, make combat work make it entertaining and make the client preformdecently...also take out all water if you cant make it look halfway decent...no one will notice no water but every new player sees the grotesque attempt at water the second the set foot out of that first basecamp..

Making the game free and trying to get new player is just going to create more people who think the game is poorly made and not ready for release.

This isnt a game where "if only more people tried it".....its a game where "if only it was stable and preformed correctly"

Even at that, if they were to get it stable to where pvp is decent and pve is entertaining, the combat itself didnt see very interesting for a non tab target shooter type...the guns and weapons seemed meh..

Regardless this game needs to be hidden from potential players.  I was actually waiting for this game to fully develop, i held back to let them fix it up ect.  I wanted badly to like this game.  I tried it a few weeks ago for a few days and was very dissapointed, got to the point where even if they made it a stable preforming game i could see how the combat was bland and the weapons and gear were stale...i cant tell you how many new player i saw (less than 20) while i sat there in the starter encampment crafting my junk....only 2 left the encampment before logging and never being seen again...and of those two i never saw them again...im assuming every new player i saw didnt stay....turning chat off didnt help though, at least i could have chatted witht he two players i saw they were clearly activly subbed...but i couldnt...

The game needs work more than anything, it doesnt need more people turned off by how it preforms both client based and in game mechanics.

basically sell the game to someone who can develop it please.  the mmo industry needs a game like this only playable.

This one should have been f2p long time ago? Is this game still alive? Anyone got  more info on when it will hit f2p?

No fate but what we make, so make me a ham sandwich please.
