It's more about how these ass-backwards people know they would be lucky to live past 30 (historically speaking, maybe not *today*), and made it a custom to make sure the population booms as soon as females are able to. I'm damned sure that even religious laws, like Jews not eating certain foods, are more aligned towards public health hazards of the past than any serious God-infraction - but people sure believe it is.

IIRC, there's at least one state in the US that has marriage laws at 16 years old.

Seriously, back in high school all the most haggard/older looking people had serious drug problems (not talking *just* weed here). A while back I decided to be a bit of a Facebook-Stalker and see what everyone from my graduating class looks like these days. All the hardcore tweekers and cokeheads aren't even 30, but look like they are in their early-to-mid 40's. Which is a lot like how they used to be 20, and looked 30. Watch an episode of cops, from anywhere in the southwest, and you'll see exactly what I mean. Except, losing all of one's teeth will surely push the idea that someone is much older than they really are.
