Lineage 2: New Hybrid Revenue Model Coming

SBFordSBFord Former Associate EditorMember LegendaryPosts: 33,129

NC Soft West has announced that Lineage II will adopt a hybrid revenue model. While few details are known, the Lineage II team said that the new hybrid system will "feature an order of magnitude greater than those of a conventional subscription model, and creates a new way to play."

NC Soft has also partnered with Innova to bring the Lineage II Free to Play service to the EU and Russia.

More details are to be released at a later date.

In the meantime, find out more about Lineage II: Goddess of Destruction.

    Excellent choice NcSoft :)

I am pretty sure Lineage 2 will just explode when it goes F2P. I expect atleast 5 new servers for EU ( or 10? ) :)

EDIT: Frog, you should update the link to this one : http://www.lineage2.com/gd/play-your-way.html

This will probably obliterate the many, many private servers the game has.

Finally, now if they would only get a f2p model for Aion, I might actually try it again. Right now the farmers, bots, spammers in both Aion and Lineage II are the reasons I don't play them.

When was the last time playing Aion? I don't know the state of L2 , but saying that there are bots and spammers in Aion that currently "does not allow" you to play the game like you want, is wrong! Sure, there are few lines in general chat saying they sell kinah and few bots, but that's all! Is not what is used to be when Aion launched. Farmers? Name a game which does not have farmers!

I really don't think Lineage2 would do very well as PvE.  The entire game is really based around PvP.

Lineage 2 is something like Aion when it goes to PVP! If you take off the PvP from Lineage 2 you basicaly ruin the game! Anyway , we should see !

I just pray they adopt a less restrictive F2P plan than alot of the newly converted "freemium" games.

F2P + AH + Goddess of Destruction could seriously turn this game around.  Might even get me playing again.

Hehe... now instead of paying a sub and paying for gold you can just pay for gold :P.

Yeah... guilty. After guild help disbanded while I was playing I had no way to get A grade lol, so had to dish out realy monies.

    Anyways.

Very good move. Lots of people will play this if it's "freemium". ESPECIALLY if the make a brand new server.

Man that'd be so freaking fun.

The EU servers will be hosted by Innova, a Russian company which operates L2 in RU on a F2P model. There are NO restriction when it comes to contents, skills and such and the only items you find in cash-shop, are just to increase your : xp/sp/drop/spoil to x2 for 30 days , some pets/mounts/cosmetical accessories and such !

So I am pretty sure this will be the same on EU and even on US, which here NCSoft West will operate !

Is it that different from the original Lineage?  That game was based around pvp, but the pve server was a lot of fun.  It didn't take pvp out of the game, but you had to flag for it, or could auto-flag by attacking a chaotic or pink character.

    Oh well, I understand.

Is NOT like Aion in everyway, but is kinda the same on some parts! Beside open world PvP which L2 have, they have castle sieges also! Territorial Wars , and other PvP "events"! The PVE is still there at his best , but combining them both, is way better :)

Lol, did a bunch of MMORPG.com'ers just find a new MMO to settle with until SWTOR? Maaaybe.

I never even considered looking into L2 just because of things I had heard and some prior expectations, but after reading this I went and looked at their site and so long as its not too grindy I think it seems interesting.  I'm downloading the trial for the game now just to see how it is so that I know if I should wait in anticipation for the F2P version.

I'm confused though. So they aren't saying the US gets free to play, but the EU and Russian servers are partnered with someone to get free to play?

freemium with brand-new server/s: count me IN!

(and i'd just simply pay the sub)

freemuim without brand new server/s: naa.

...not sure this is a good thing for L2...

I have played it too long to know there are little to no options to change L2 into a Freemium system like LotRo uses it. Also, what would this mean for existing players who have a 80+ char already? I bet those have just to pay regular subscription..?

  • hazyhazy Member UncommonPosts: 89

Nice I'll go back to L2 for some F2P fun.

They already do so I mean what changes? It will bring in new people and the old people have new people to play with without the fear that the game won't bring anyone in.

I played L2 when it first launched, and back then getting to max level was a tough experience, especially while trying to earn enough cash to outfit your characters properly.

I regret giving up on it before reaching max level (think I had a level 52 Silver Ranger at the time) and this news actually peaked my interest, especially the part where they claim it will take far less time to get to max level activities.

I really wanted to be part of the castle sieging activities when I used to play, perhaps this will give me a chance to complete something I left unfinished a long time ago.
