Consolidated positive preview list

whilanwhilan Everett, WAPosts: 3,172Member Uncommon

Okay this is list of just positive previews as was requested by Corehaven.

Disclaimer: This is only positive previews, i'm full aware this is one sided as it's meant to only show people who think positively of the game. Thanks.

I'm going to start off with major sites like IGN and such, basically anyone who has an established hold on the internet. Then i'm going to go to fansites like ask a jedi, keep in mind these are likely to be somewhat biased towards the game, as such they are in their own section. Then i'll jump down to minor sites like that joe one, Then i'll jump down to player previews from conventions.

Note: Once i finish populating this thread, i'll remove these three notes and leave just the previews in.

Alos note I will post approx how long a player got to play the game wether it's 10 mins, 2 hours 45 mins or a month if they mention it.

Gonna continue to add more but thats what i found in a short period of time. Feel free to discuss below.

Fan sites: Please keep in mind these are people who are closely following the game, But i'm posting ones i think will give a general fair review of the game in a positive light (if thats possible)

Note: most of the fansites are podcasts so i didn't want to include those and the fansite is geared towards fans so positive reviews from them are common but i figured as long as they seem fair they are worthy of putting into their own section. Anyway moving to less common known sites.

I'll start off with the infamous :) Joe one

Gonna post player reviews. These are common people who played the game and gave their impressions.

This one is probably easier to link the thread then to post it. But i'll post a few of the more positive ones for the sake of the thread.

    here is the post: http://www.swtor.com/community/showthread.php?t=293965

    Some excert of it:

The game seemed incredibly well polished compared to any other MMO I have played at beta, and more polished than many MMO's at release (Helderash)

Overall the graphics are great, the voice acting is stellar, I played a Sith Inquisitor but I was jealous of Imperial agents when it was pointed out that your accent would change as you masqueraded as different people. You sounded angry when you made an angry choice, nonchalant when you made an average choice. I didn't notice any instancing or loading at all in my hour, my only obstacles were the areas fenced off with an energy shield which were areas for different classes and for groups, and the irritating camera. It is all incredibly slick and well done. One of the things I found really interesting was then they said that when witnessing the beta players, some players would often log no keyboard activity for half an hour. This was when they were making a game-changing decision (AbKi)

In reality, I felt like this was one of the best games I had played, sure I only played an hour and half of it, and in reality that isn't enough time to judge but the combat felt responsive, and non-repetitive. The story and questing was really engaging, and pretty hilarious that I could essentially sleep with a guy to avoid killing him or being "good" and paying him, I certainly felt like a female James Bond (Kandycane)

Now the one thing I can say is that now that I've finally played the game; I am convinced that the immersion and StarWarsey feel that BioWare have been talking about so much; is really there! Those of you worried about TOR being a WoW clone - cast those thoughts out of your heads! NOW! Even though TOR adapts generic MMO controls the game feels very different from any MMO game I have played in recent years and it is this that excites me the most I think(JonoBradley)

    Just to name a few.

I know you said only positives but since the new massively review is negative might wanna remove the old one.

figured since it was different people might have different tastes. Shows one person liked it, while the other did not.

Wow.  So the positive reviews are out there and documented.  Where are all these negative reviews to counter the positive ones?  I've seen like 3 tops, but no more than that.   If there were a "rottentomatoes.com" for games, swtor would be at like 95% positive reviews so far.

  • Loke666Loke666 MalmöPosts: 17,975Member Uncommon

Great job, but you should really post the bad ones as well. Reading both the good and bad is usually a lot more helpful than just one side of the coin.

Yes, the positive reviews WILL swamp the internet, we can all be sure of that.

The trueful opinions will arrive around 1-2 months after, when the launch hype has passed, or whenever EA stop spending millions on advertising.

Yeah, but I only saw about 3 good until now too. That is why OP should post the bad ones as well, then we can fairly compare them.

People seems to have very strong opinions about this game, one way or another. Reading reviews is pretty fun but it is hands on experience that makes me decide if I will play or not.

I am pretty certain that WAR, AoC, FFXIV, and DCuO all had a ton of positive reviews as well.

Quit trying to justify your game of choice because it got 1 negative review.

    +1 for your efforts, Whilan

Better make it ALL previews though :)

If you add the negative ones for the sake of balance, this is sticky worthy imo.

(Also much less work, I reckon ;-) ).

Yeah, I would like to see a list of negative reviews alongside.  But, it really just comes down to different strokes for different folks.  I, for one, will be playing TOR.  I've been looking forward to it since it was announced.

A lot of you wanting the negative reviews posted side by side are missing the point of the thread entirely. He's didn't do this to necessarily counter-balance the negative review from one site yesterday.  He did this because he was basically DARED to do it by another, shall we say, not-so-keen-on-SWTOR poster who wanted him to prove his point that there are many, many positive reviews out of the game as well.  His whole purpose isn't to say "Look at these reviews, this is proof how awesome SWTOR is."  His point was to show that there are plenty of reviews out there that are positive as well.  So the people who posted on the thread yesterday regarding the Massively or Bit-tech review that felt they were some kind of "proof" that the game was going to be bad have no more leg to stand on than the fanboys proclaiming it the greatest thing ever.  You can find good and bad reviews out there to suit your purposes.  Means nothing in the grand scheme of things, and is certainly no indicator of the game's success.

We had people actually posting on that negative review thread yesterday saying "This is not good," as if one bad review from someone who may have just not liked the genre was proof this game was going to fail.

If you want to read negative reviews, just look at other threads on this board.  There is no shortage of people who are critical of this game who enjoy bringing those kind of reviews to the board and flaunting them as if is a precursor of things to come.  This thread was started to prove a point to another poster that yeah, for every bad review you want to post, I can post 5 good ones.  And in the end, none of them, good or bad, mean a thing.

Unless you sort them out :-)

I understand why fans want to have a list of positive previews: they want to get excited about their game. They don't want to have the 2 sides. Who are we to blame them anyway?

I applaud your efforts but I think it would have been better to combine a list of possitive and negative reviews.

    Just my $.02.

Like i stated at the top of the post this was requested by Corehaven for me to do. The exchange (i have to parphrase because my recall is terrible and the thread was ...for obvious reasons deleted because it contain info pointing people towards NDA leaks) went something like this.

Me: there are plenty of positive previews out there on the game as well.

Corehaven: Really? cause i haven't seen much of them, care to post some to show me?

Me: links the PC-gamer preveiw, but also throwing in that i could list em all but it might take me a while as theres quite a few of them.

Corehaven: Yeah i saw that one already, but feel free to make a new thread showing just the positive, we really need that on this site it would be refreshing.

Me; You want just the major sites or them all.

I can't recall (again bad memory) what he said after that but the point was he tasked me to make a thread basing just positive reviews of the game. I could have easily just linked all the impressions of the game and that would have gotten everything. But that wasn't the point of the post. I was asked to do something, and i did.

There, fixed that for you. Though  I'm sure one could compile a list of negative previews/reviews if they had the mind to do that.

Just because some feel that these articles don't share their world view doesn't mean they are any less truthful.

And of course the same goes for negative previews/reviews.

Otherwise you become exactly the same as those who look at games with star studded eyes. Just a different flavor.

Hey i'm all about multitasking. I played 3 games at once. One on the computer, a handheld and on the console and manage to play all three. Still don't know how in the world i did it. I don't think any of them were action based so it didn't require continous observation.

On a more serious note: it may come as a shock to some people i'm sure but while i'm the most excited about this game i also have realistic expectations of it. I don't think it's the messiah, I don't think it's the next best thing. I also don't think it's crap or will fail or anything like that. I think it will do well and hold a good set of subscribers. Hopefully enough to keep the game going with updates.

My basic perception of the game is basic MMO combat, bioware style questing with a ton of other people involved...Thats about it. Thats all i expect out of the game. It really isn't that much, what won me over the most is the light side/dark side alignment, i absolutely go nuts when a game like that comes out. It's almost a instant buy regardless of quality. It's a weak point i know, but it's one i can live with just fine. This game adheres to my three basic things i was looking for in my ideal MMO. Light/dark side alignment choices, Great story telling, mass amount of people in the world. Which of all the upcoming games, only swtor provides all three. Thus it wins out.

The thread was as i stated above requested by another forum user, so trying to be helpful as my nature (hopefully) shows i did as requested. If people want to take it as biased they can freely do so. But they should also know going in that this thread is basically one sided because it was requested to be as such.

Good to see some more realistic expectations.

There seems to be this weird trend going on where people feel either entitled to or expect more and more innovation and change depending on the number of big names involved.

Bioware? It HAS to at least have 25% of the features of this perfect MMO I've been picturing in my mind!

Star Wars as well? Make that 50% of the features I've been dreaming about!

EA's money is behind it? They should easily be able to afford 75% of my dream features then!

I mean I've got like 5 Bioware games, which is like $200! I've also got 4 Star Wars games and 6 movies! That's like another $200! And I've got like $350 of EA games lying around! Them greedy bastards better be making my personal dream MMO after all the money I gave them!

Anyway, realistic expectations and a helpfull, although slightly smug, attitude are a welcome sight.

You may add +1 for realism and +1 for helping, don't spend it all in one place!

I could care less about the preview opinions. I would judge for myself if I was purchasing the game.. However, there is one area where the game is trying to raise the bar. That area is the price. The game itself is expensive and I don't think I want to shell out the monthly sub for something I most likely would get bored of in 3 months. I'll wait until the price comes down to try it and if it doesn't then EA can keep it. I don't believe that new ground is being broken here except at the very margins (voice overs etc.)
