Gamespy:  Everything you'll find in the Battlefield 3 Multiplayer

Some repeat stuff from the initial post.  A few more tidbits of info with a few of my comments in green.

    WEAPON ACCESSORIES

    Optics:

    M145

    RDS Reflex

    Kobra

    Holographic

    PKA-S

    ACOG

    PSO-1

    PK-A

    IRNV

    PKS-07

    8x Rifle Scope

    12x Ballistic

    Ergonomics:

    Foregrip

    Bipod

    Performance:

    Heavy barrel

    Suppressor

    Tactical light

    Laser sight

    Flash suppressor

    Straight pull bolt

    Underslung weaponry:

    M320 (umm, should be M203)

    40mm grenades

    Bucksot

    Smoke grenade

    M26 MASS

    12 guage

    Flechettes

    Frag round

    Solid slugs

Weapon customization isn't new to the BF series.  BF2142 had some very minor customization options, but there nonetheless.  Still, it paled in comparison to what Infinity Ward did with COD4:MW, something I thought was a very nice, new thing for the FPS genre.  I have qualms about what some effects were even with MW1, but the idea of that much customization was great to me.  To see these options with the upcoming BF3 is a good move.  You need to learn from the competition...

    SOLDIER EQUIPMENT

    Knife

    M67 hand grenades

    M18 smoke grenades

    Medkit

    Defibrillators

    M15 Anti-Tank mine

    Welding tool

    EOD Bot

    60mm Mortar

    Ammunition box

    C4 explosives

    M18 Claymore mines

    UG sensors

    Radio Beacon

    SOFLAM

    MAV Micro UAV

The 60mm Mortar stands out.  I haven't seen Mortars with vanilla BF games before (at least with BF2 and BF2142).  Curious to see how its implemented.  But the US Marine Corps doesn't use 60mm anymore, 81mm is the standard (M252 81mm Mortar).  It'll also be funny again killing someone with a Defibrillator!

    THE MULTIPLAYER MAPS

Nine total including: Caspian Border and Operation Metro

"Back to Karkand" DLC will have 4 classic BF2 maps ported over to BF3. Strike at Karkand, Gulf of Oman, Sharqi Peninsula and Wake Island.  BF2 vets will easily recognize these maps, and longtime fans of the series should all be familiar with Wake Island.  I think it's been in all the mainline BF games.  With the DLC should make it 13 total MP maps.

    THE GAME MODES

    Conquest

    Conquest 64 (PC only)

    Rush

    Team Deathmatch

    Squad Deathmatch

    Squad Rush

    THE RIBBONS AND MEDALS

There will be close to 100 ribbons and medals in BF3

A longstanding tradition in the BF franchise.  More stuff to pin on your chest.  More stuff for the "salad bowl" of ribbons.  Some of those awards you really have to do some ridiculous accomplishments for.

    THE DOG TAG CUSTOMIZATIONS

More than 350 personalized dogtags including:

    Rush Ribbon

    Recon Service Star

    40mm Master

    BF2 Veteran

More variety after you knife someone and collect their Dog Tag, I guess.  For those not familiar with it in BF games, when you get a knife kill on someone, a little graphic pops up showing a collected Dog Tag and the player's name.  That player's dog tag information is saved with your soldier's profile along with all your other stats.  Basically stating how many Dog Tags you've collected and the names of each and every single one of them.  For me, it was like a nice little game within the game, especially when you knife a good knife fighter or a high ranking leaderboard player.

Isn't the mortar part of the vehicle perks?

  • KalferKalfer Member Posts: 779

Do we know if any of the helicopters will have room for 5-6 people?

Nothing better than in Desert Combat, to pilot a helicopter and spam "bail out, bail out, bail out" as you propelled yourself into a little european eastern village.

I haven't seen anyone comment on that.  Granted, I haven't played the Bad Company games, but BF2 and BF2142 both had aircraft transports that can hold a squad, not to mention the pilot(s) and door gunner(s).

I'm assuming that DICE would follow that tradition.  They've been going out and saying BF3 is in spirit closer to BF2, and it isn't a Bad Company 3 game.

From the 2 sources I listed above, they both put the mortar as soldier equipment.  Maybe a fixed map emplacement?  Dunno.

Then again, there have been vehicles with a mortar mounted.  That'll be cool.  They've been around since WWII and still exist today.

UH-1Y and the KA-60 are transport helicopters. They should have room for a few people much like the black hawks.
