SBFordSBFord Associate Editor - News ManagerThe Land of AZPosts: 16,595MMORPG.COM Staff Uncommon

As the world prepares for the annual Gamescom to be held in Cologne, Germany, MMORPG.com Managing Editor Bill Murphy caught up with Adam Gershowitz, David Luehmann and Rob Hill to talk about what we might possibly expect to be shown during the convention for Rift, End of Nations and Defiance. Keep reading to see what secrets Bill ferreted out and then let us know what you think!

MMORPG: Can you share with us what you’ll be showing at Gamescom this year? Traditionally these shows are about the players, so what’s new that we’ll be getting our hands on?

Adam Gershowitz: As always we’ve got a ton of exciting things in the pipe for our upcoming patches. For Gamescon we’ll be doing a sneak peek at some of the features of our 1.5 patch, which will be focusing on “Endgame for All” content. Specifically we’ll be showing people our new Chronicle instances, which are targeted towards solo or duo sized groups. We will also be showing our next weekend warfront which takes place in Hammerknell, as well as discussing a number of really exciting features we’re planning but are not quite ready to show live.

Well, SWToR is supposed to come out holiday season, lots of fingers pointing at end of October, so I'm sure Trion will try to wow (no pun intended) players with shiny things.

    Keep it up :)

As it is now Rift is still a solid gaming experience. If your not into the "WoW" gaming model and want something completely different Rift is not for you, but for a game that still just came out this year it should not be passed up and forgotten even when SW:TOR comes out. From everything I am seeing most will be leaving to at least try TOR, but may be disappointed when they get, more a less, the same exact thing with a Starwars mask put on.

In the meantime I will still continue to enjoy Rift and the ample amount of content that has been released since launch and watch it grow.

Don't forget TOR will only attract Star Wars fans...

I don't like SW or WoW, so I stay far away from it....

Star Wars is going to serve one major purpose. It could be the worst MMO ever made for all we know, but it will do one thing. It will continue to loosen Blizzards grip on the monopoly they ahve right now.

It might be horrible, but if they can push story driven MMORPG content and interesting storylines no matter how bad anything else is it will be something new and cool.

I"m more interested in the End of Nations than anything else right now. I like the concept, but like games in the past that tried to pull of these rpg elements in a rts style world it will be up to execution of visuals, sounds, and mechanics. If they can't properly introduce a layer to the game that creates fulfilling fluid content, then NO I won't even touch it.

I struggle not with life, money, emotions, and world, but against old mindsets and selves to be proven obsolete in a age and time of rapid changes. Go create fun, so you can have fun.

Weekend Warfronts, another failed idea from WAR that Gershowitz is going to bolt on to RIFT.

    I'm glad I unsubbed.

I actually have not heard a single complaint about it so far. If anything people have been extremely delighted and the it does not get as repetitive and mixes it up.

Also that new war front is being tested today on the pts at 3pm PST 8/10/2011 from what Elrar just posted.

Man, Trion is working their rears off these days!  They are cranking out content at a surprising pace and it doesn't sound like they are slowing up yet.  It is like most developers lay off all the extra workers after the game ships and then slow down, but Trion kept them all on staff and kept the fast development pace.

All I can say is keep up the good work, Trion!  I hope when SWToR comes out most of the pain of subscription loss goes to Blizz.  They can handle it.

    Currently playing:
    Rift
    Played:
SWToR, Aion,EQ, Dark Age of Camelot
    World of Warcraft, AoC

few reasons why RIFT kicks ass.

    -  Dynamic zone and world events, No other mmo has this. (GW2 is not out yet, WAR i hav yet to see in action)  In fact is is uber boring running around in a quest zone in any other mmo now, Nothing at all is happening. Except maby for a bit of pvp here and there its dull. You do your boring quests and hand in. Rinse and repeat. In rift the PVE raids you. Every 2 hours or so the entrire map changes and you hav to team up with other ppl to defend positions , take out bosses, destroy stuctures, many other variations ....  Its fun and ties in to the story and breaks the manotony of regular grinding. The world event bosses are awesum to take down !! Its like raiding on the world map with hundreds of players. I cannot see that i will go back to any other existing mmo or even SWTOR, because lifeless zones will just be a bore.

    -  The ascended soul class system is uber. I have for the 100th time made completely different type of char. If you are bored with your char, there is no need to reroll with

new class. U just change your souls. You hav 5 specs so no need to destroy the old ones either.  And having 9 souls to choose from right from the start, makes wow's class

classic types feel like a snooze. You can craft a character with specific things in mind. Example i made a self healing pvp warrior with complimentary abilities that boost

each-other across souls, i made a uber tank that can stop a train, i made a high-dps-ing spec that can bring down an uber cleric and on and on. There is just so much that you

could never do b4. Playing a game without this will be yawn..... zzzz. Swtor's classes now seem so boring. Hope the big universe makes up for it.

    - in only 3 months rift already has 4 raids, 5 warfronts  ( counting WF escalation ), many normal and expert instances that are completely different from one-another and a

horde of different types of Raid and expert raid rifts that both hard and fun (especially if there is a enemy guild stalking you while trying to do one ). Also new PVP rifts.

LOL @ rifts being only different looking. Wanna see you take on an expert raid death rift with your ( i have played to level cap in 2 days ) gear. There are also many raid zone

quests and the new pvp-quests and content.

    - the world and lore even without the dynamic events is very intersting and alive. There are a multitude of puzzles and hidden treasures all over. There are epic story quests,

that absolutly rock. There are baddies that seem and feel realm with sum personality. The dragon lords are uber !! Azeroth is dead compared to this. each zone has a unique

feeling and special vibe about it.

    Bottom Line :

    Trion delivers.

Anybody notice that this new WF

    http://www.mmorpg.com/discussion2.cfm/thread/323795/New-mmorpgcom-interviewChronicles-of-TelaraHammerknell-Warfront.html

seems a lot like the very first Warfront in the game, just with a different skin.... doesnt sound interesting to be honest.

Rift is the most generic and soulless (no pun intended) MMO I have ever played.

The game itself is very well done and plays just fine but its just so bland and uninteresting.

However Trion is a very capable company and End of Nations and Defiance look great.

The first WF in the game is the best one in the game. if they gave me five variations of it and deleted the rest i would be happy. its basically two teams kicking the shit out of eachother trying to hold an item that kills the carrier slowly.

Its simple, ruthless and dirty. just the way i like it. Screw capture the flag, screw some worthless pve map acting like a pvp zone. I want to be dropped onto a map and clash at the center of the feild with the other team, let the best team come out of it.

Kinda like good old Team deathmatch before all these stupid military shooters ruined Fps with squad based objectives and shit.

Simply and dirty! F*** em up good!

I'm amazed at the speed Trion is putting out content, it's just a shame that it's only to "spice up" bland, grindy gameplay. The good news is that Rift has to have taught them some important lessons for Trion's first try at MMOs and their future games can only get better because of it.

Wow set a new standard in terms of quality development for MMOs.

Now Trion showed every player out there (if they didn't already knew) that they've been milked like mad cows and it's possible to deliver quality content, included in the monfhly fee, much faster that what they've been used to.

    Take notice.
