A broad statement like that is full of holes. Ask anyone who has been in war and there are always nuetral and even beneficant parties with only the interest to help. The trial system is pretty interesting to say the least. Although in function it really depends on some fantastic community individuals. Ive seen it work on free Uo shards. We'll see how it all pans out. I for one am excited to see how the character models are fixed up. With the crytek engine there using the models could be amazing!

In war there is no PK and Carebear, everyone is a solider.

Definitely a deal breaker, unless they refine the system.

That could be a deal breaker for me aswell, what kind of an MMO wouldn't want to have some form of PVP???

Jake Song: I regret to say this to the gamers outside Korea, but ArcheAge Closed Beta Tests are designed for Koreans only. Schedule for the ArcheAge's 4th closed beta test is not fixed yet. When we announce the schedule for the test, if you are Korean and live in Korea, you can apply as a tester through ArcheAge website and wait for the raffle result.

Hmm, I don't know if an average Korean knows what an average American wants. Even if Jake Song is "worldly" , I still have reservations about letting Korea  decide the progress of a potentially epic MMO.  I mean how can a Korean beta tester's feedback be the same as an American beta tester's feedback?

This is exactly my thought as well.  I think Jake Song is an awesome game designer.  Lineage is still my favorite MMO and the best PvP I've had in a game, but I can't see how they can globalize a game with only localized feedback.  I don't mind Korean style games, but if they're really trying to 'globalize' then they should get other feedback before they get too far along the development timeline.

I'm also not sure if I want to play on a PvP server anymore.  Early MMO pvp was entirely different from the idiotic mindless ffa deathmatch crap that western pvp holds up on a pedestal.  I just don't see how quality pvp can happen in the current mmo pvp environment.

The game does have some intriguing features.  I'll keep an eye on it.

I like the trial system and I think it will work well enough to curb a lot fo the short attention span griefers. Point being that whether you are found guilty or not, the price for killing with reckless abandon is a pretty hefty timesink regardless of the outcome. I think that will cause some people to think twice knowing if they gank for the hell of it, theyre gonna have to sit and deliberate for who knows how long.

The koreans can keep their games as far as I am concerned.

What irks me, is what I see as arrogance and pride. They make a game for Korea and they dont care how it plays for anyone else.

    Lineage 2 no thank you.

    AION no thank you.

    Archage, incoming NO thank you.

I kind of agree with you on the FFA PvP comment. Personally, I like the concept of FFA PvP but the execution always seems to fall short. I'd like to see more games go with the Eve-online system of progressive safe zones. A game where you can kill anyone, anywhere, anytime but in some areas the penalties for doing so will be so steep that it's just not worth it for most people. That's also why I'd like to see MMOs move away from level/skilled based character progression (not necessarily completely removed) and rely more on equipment to define character's rolls. It'd be more of a psychological thing, but after playing Red Dead Redemption and Red Faction: Guerilla I think it could work.

LOL you people assume to much in a game you never played... its an indie not an AAA where they follow a scipt they do what you want a and gamers want, being in game design I had an idea like this for a wild west game, it will work if you do it right and have anti griefing where certain choices can't be picked.

Example, someone killed someone one time, death, wrong, if it was someone killing , and killing, aka griefing then you get an option to say death. But if it then then get jail, for ex amount of time , or and some big fees, even have it where your friends /guild can get you out by raiding that town. Etc.

So stop assuming things , gamers today have no pataince and expect the world... Go to school and you would understand what it takes to make these games, and what you can do.. I did.. I know now.. But I never whined like alot of people do .

Do you understand what a AAA mmo means?  I feel like you dont.  AAA refers to budget mainly, and this game has it.  You can be an Indie AAA mmo (See Eve).

To bad another sandbox that under estimates peoples ability to cheat and exploit.

Sigh... and there goes my interest with ArchAge...

I will NEVER play a MMO with open PVP, corpse looting and CERTAINLY not one where I am judged by other players. NOT IF HELL FREEZES OVER!

Agreed.... sadly i just don't see anything except arguments and griefing

Only time I regretted not being korean was the first time a korean girl cooked me some real authentic korean food.  I asked her for the recipe, but in korea the women don't pass that knowledge on until the woman gets married, so she didn't know the recipe.  Just how to cook it.

As for the game, sounds like a korean grindfest with your own content added onto it. Plus the fact it has that pvp system... No thanks.

I'm all for ffa pvp but I see myself accidently aoeing others then being judged guilty by them. They cant have a harsh penalty incase this happens but then what discourages griefing. I'm really looking forward to this game but I just dont see the trial system working.

Also isnt the class system like rift, where you can theoretically pick from a bunch of classes but in practice pick the best cookie cutter for whatever role you play?

I don't forsee best cookie cutter being quite as big of a problem in this game as rift.  There will be a much more versatility in what you can do as far as content goes.  There also does not appear to be a strictly pvp choice that further limits your options (for pvp).  There also isn't a defined "base class", that defines your role.  Basically builds should depend mostly on style of play.  Sure in large group play a specialist will probably be superior to a character that can do a little of this and a little of that, but in solo or duo play a "jack of all trades" would probably be superior to the specialist, due to versatility and self sufficiency.

One thing I've learned about free Korean games with open pvp, is that it's not free at all.

The only way to survive is Pay2Win. And the more other players pay, the more you have to pay to be beter.

    No thanks

As great as this game sounds and obviously looks, I think the mechanics to me just translate into 'Work'. It looks like a game that will/would take most of my time and I would need to really work my ass off to achieve something I could be proud of and have fun...

So, I'll pass ((I think)). We can never tell with these things. It is a DARN good looking game though, kudos to XL Games.

honestly, before some of you start guessing and asuming you should do more research. even a quick view on the official game webside or a google search for jake song will give you more (and correct) facts on which you can build an oppinion. but wait, thats work and you have to think .....

(over 50% of all information made by others in above comments about archeage are not correct)

I'm cautiously optimistic about ArcheAge. I'd love to be able to play a sandbox MMO with a solid design, but am not interested in a game where the top guilds "rule" the server and the law. I don't know that this is the case, but some of the systems outlined make it seem feasible.

    Being judged,

You stole 12 pumpkins from LEETPLAYR, for this .. the jury sentances you to 6 days in jail.  You sit in jail for 6 days unable to play character but still pay the sub. OOoOOoo or maybe you can log in to try to avoid getting attacked in the shower or shanked in the recreation area of the jail.

Sarchasm ? .. maybe :)  I am curious to see how the punishment severity will be. I also wonder how many people would unsub if they are found guilty of any crimes.

Sound to me like a popularity contest. No-one is going to read someone reasoning about why they did something, unless you have dedicated judges who take there job serieus. Else it be just like "Oh i like this guy, not guilty. This person I do not know, guilty".

  • DignaDigna City, CTPosts: 2,014Member Uncommon

I am curious about the trial system. There needs to be some sort of immediate penalty but does it apply to only 'homesteads' or anywhere? I assume the former from the mention of stealing crops. It would rather foolish if 'coppers' showed up in the middle of a distant field because someone capped another player.

Then I wonder, what happens if  you play on a low pop server (or at least in low pop time zones). Majority rules and a 1 vote can dictate death penalty (assuming only one person replied in a worst case scenario)?

I am cautiously reserved on this aspect.

The 3 of 10 class/skill system sounds fun but unless they change skills periodically there will always be cookie cutter 'best' builds, usually before the OB (if they have one) closes.

I am looking forward to Archeage but one too many 'great' MMOs with the best sounding 'innovative' systems have been found lacking in the last few years. I will watch in anticipation and reservation in equal parts.

it does "look" epic. It's very pretty for sure.

    But I was personally not over-impressed with combat/combat-animations ...

Aside from that it seems interesting I applaud their intention to promote player content, I think it's something vital to an MMO. True, it might mean more work initially, but i think it would save work and effort generating new content later on. Plus the ability to create content is a form of content in itself
