Is this an entirely solo MMO (pve wise)

Hey guys. I am seriously considering taking the dive and buying this game tonight. I'm well aware the graphics may be date and there will be bugs but I love the setting.

Just curious. For those who have played it a lot, is the pve side of the game pretty much all solo content due to your minions?

You can complete about 95% of the standard quest PVE type content solo.  At the end of some of the quest chains you will need help or you will need to add a few levels and come back when they are not at level.  This really only starts happening after the 20's.  If your willing to wait till the quest is a little older you can make almost all but could still use an assist on some like protection and escort missions.

The dungeons are a different creature however.  If you are at level designed for the dungeon, you will need a group to work the dungeon.  The first dungeon is 10-14 for 5-players.   Even if your 14th, you will not be able to solo it.  It will take you till its all grey before you can just solo it safely including the bosses.  So you will need a group there also.  The bosses of course drop the best loot for your level so skipping them wont hurt you but its always nice to get the drops.  Some of the chain I got from the 10-14 dungeon lasted me till the lower 20's.  If I went back and farmed it at 20, I would have got a couple pieces that would still be better tahn what I have but they would be getting replaced soon.

I hope that gives you an idea.  The majority yes.  Some spots no to solo.

Thanks so much for the hasty reply. I suppose it is a good thing that most of it is solo given the game's low populaion.

Do you enjoy the game? It must have given you your money's worth since you have played so much of it. :)

I agree! Also, the first dungeon in "Volcanic Vents" although the dungeon itself is good, the freaking Jailer! OMG! We had a full group and minions and it was the most intense fight I ever experienced!

Also, on the US Bacchus server, there were quite a number of new players in the starter area yesterday.

Thank you for this.   So, like most MMOs, you must group to get the best rewards?   If true, that's all I need to know not to buy it.  Too bad, I was thinking of picking this up.

Well so far I quite like the game. Can safely say it is better than I was expecting, especially the graphics. Compared to other MMO's they are nothing special but the way some people were talking I was expecting horrid graphics with choppy animations but it's far from it.

I will say the game is absolutely empty though. I'm sure that is a surprise to no one. There are some people talking in global chat. Of the 3 servers I chose the EU one. I logged in at about 3am and it was on medium with the 2 US ones being low. However today it was vice versa.

I just got to the stage where I head back to my estate which was destroyed by that ancient cult. I'm just hoping the game is not too easy with these minions. By the time I had reached level 6 or 7 the boss on the starter island was only lvl 4.

In any case so far so good. I see it easily being worth the initial $40 for the free 30 days. Just a heads up people, you no longer have to give your credit card information in order to get your 30 days.

That raises the question... Why do you play mMos in the first place ?

     There's no "M" in "group."

Masive-Multiplayer, im sure you know the meaning. But then again you might want to play an mmo so you can solo and on the same time see other people killing mobs around you

I have to say that those screens are nice and look pretty good, the quality really isn't so bad. Also anyone have any thoughts on the four classes, that seems small but then again, tight knit is always good... the Mystic does seem interesting. I also expect the game population to really pick up as it seems more and more people are becoming interested.

    I don't suppose there's a chance you're overstating the matter?

There are tons of reasons why people like to solo in an MMO.    See the massive solo vs group thread on this website.  Further, there is no part of the definition of MMOs that means 'forced grouping to get best rewards.'

Most MMOs let you solo much of the content.   From this, we can conclude that soloing is both accepted and desired in MMOs.

And yet, in almost every MMO, the only pve content with the best rewards is raiding.

Raiders get progressively more challenging content that offers progressively better rewards.    That's all I want as a soloer.

I still enjoy chatting with others (I'm often solo questing while chatting with guildmates).    I enjoy using the auction house, or offering/asking advice with others.    I enjoy seeing a thriving town that feels alive in an MMO in a way which no single player game ever can.     Not to mention MMOs are far, far larger than any SP game.   Most SP games you can play from start to finish in a weekend, this is certainly not true of MMOs.

In fiction, there are as many stories (if not more) of the lone hero than there are of the heroic team.

In any event, this game design of 'only grouping gets the best loot' is old and unnecessary.    It certainly doesn't need to be the endgame of all MMOs.

My apologies to the OP, didn't mean to off-track the thread.

I'm not sure they are going the "raid" route yet.  I haven't seen any post specificall detailing any raids or whether they've decided. (Granted, maybe I just totally missed a post) but It seems with all the little caves with no purpose yet, it could become just one group dungeons.

I quit Rift because to pvp I had to raid for the best weapons.  I don't mind some dungeons for gearing, and I do hope they get a very cool pvp system in place.  I prefer challenging five man content, and I feel with the minion system in place they can make awesome dungeons if they decide too.
