ok got the game on steam and downloading know. how do i make a playonline account?

no idea i went to the website and nothing about makeing one thats weird.

I am pretty sure I had to create a playonline account somehow on the launcher or when launching game. I also remember lots of pain when I hit my head against the wall with frustration...
Still was less painful than the account creation and all you have to go through to create content I.D.'s which are actually your characters.....

yes, when you first launch the game it will ask you to register or log in with an old account.

Yeah, you download FFXI through steam, and use the PlayOnline launcher to make an account.
If you don't get the PlayOnline launcher with the steams download (no idea since I never played it) and just got FFXI, you can dl the launcher here: http://www.playonline.com/ff11us/download/media/vista01.html?pageID=media
POL launcher is what pops up when you launch FFXI from steam. Enjoy making an account, I've had the game enabled on steam for six months now, and due to various issues with it, have yet to be able to register an account. I'm about to try to do it again now.
You will have to dowload this Playonline Viewer if you are in Vista or 7, as the viewer that comes with ffxi is for XP and won't work as it should (You will be able to create the account etc but not to launch the game)
