What is your best time in Asheron's Call?

Kain_DaleKain_Dale Member UncommonPosts: 378

Title says it all.

My best experince playing asheron's call is old lugian cidatel in Lin.  I was running around the corner and see what lurks in here... I see a Lugian and i attack it... then i see he calls for aids... Wow!  They came to surround me... Can I yield them or should I run for my lives!?  Love this dungeon due to no boss camping.. everything is equally and the fellowship party exp is the best because doesnt have to be in same spot all the time.  You go wherever you please and still share exp in dungeon.

Oh man so many good memorys but one that came off the top of my head and kind of makes me laugh, is everyday when i logged on i would get a message from one of my vassels. and it was normally the same question, " can u help us get some bodys from the Metos acid pit? "

haha oh man those were good times, i would go there and they would have probably 2 or 3 bodys in that pit. there would be 3 or 4 of my vassels sitting there naked waiting for me to get there to help them get all their armor. oh the good old days, i made alot of good friends in that game with the patron vassel system it was alot of fun.

The wonderful memories never end for this game.  The biggest for me before I ended up quitting (yay being young and emo) was making the composite bow for my archer on Darktide.  Took forever for me to gather the materials (horn, sinew, oil, and whatnot) and when I was about to make it I was literaly sweating bullets hoping i'd combine them all since a friend of mine had attempted it 5 times with somewhere around 340 bow and failed. luck was with me and I made it and I literally danced around the room with excitement!

Cant remember a specific occasion but generally the 2-3 years I spent playing this game, on the Darktide server, was by far the best in any MMORPG.

The thrill of buying reagents or selling in town, knowing an enemy player could show up at any time.

Exploring new dungeons and areas in this vast sandbox.

Engaging in PvP raids with up to 30 other people.

Fighting notorious PvPers like Og and even once, Blood.

Experimenting, in the early days, to find out the reagent combo for spells.

    Hunting for shards and motes.

It was simply a brilliant MMORPG, sadly it was too much too handle for most people so it really never got that popular like EQ and others of that time.

I agree man. So many fond memories of this game on the Darktide server.

Here's a thread I may a while back with my DT memories: http://www.mmorpg.com/discussion2.cfm/post/1058074#1058074

Still the best game EVER, period.

Olthoi hord nest is by far the most exiting mmo expirience I have had in any mmorpg so far,at least the first week after arriving to that place.

  • SilTecxSilTecx Member Posts: 1

Well, I agree with you all, by far the best MMORPG that I ever played..

Well mine would have to be logging into the game to find out the Devs logged into the new boss monster and killed all the people in marketplace and to see the the dead bodies covering the floors...

Or back when Lady Aerfalle first came out and it would take like 100 people to do the quest and such..

OR dragging the white bunny to town <evil grin>

I have a few, but one of the easiest memories to relate, is getting together with a friend I made in Asheron's Call, finding the tallest spot adjacent to a cliff, (It involved some sort of lighthouse) then seeing who could jump the furthest out onto the beach.

It was conveniently close to a respawn point, so we tried a couple times each, then we did it where we saw if the person on the bottom could 'catch' the person jumping down, and were wondering if it would kill the person who was jumped onto.  (We never quite managed to coordinate that right.  Stupid modems.)

I even did that on my main.  Being afraid of death penalty is for the weak.

[trolling] My best time playing Asheron's call was never playing Asheron's Call. [/trolling]

In all seriousness, this game should be F2P by now. This one has no excuse for staying P2P.

We all know Turbine can handle F2P Freemium transformation gracefully. Just look at DDO and LOTRO, they are doing even better now than when they were P2P.

I have far, far too many good times from AC to really pick a best.

One that stands out, though, is a time from my early days in Dereth...

I was slaughterign Lugians at the Lugian Citadel near Qal, when a group of about four others came in behind me, and began griefing me rather hardcore. They'd let me pull the heat, then they'd jump in and take the kill, snagging the majority of the XP. I complained a bit to my patron, and the next thing I knew, the entire Mike the Deathbringer monarchy descended on the Lugian Citadel to make sure nobody but MTD got XP in there. It was some good counter-griefing times!

I really miss those good times in Dereth. No game since Asheron's Call has been as much fun. No community has been as awesome to be a part of.

I've tried going back a few times, but the game is empty. At least Solclaim is, anyway.

That old addage is as true for MMOs as it is for anything else; You can never really go home again...

True mages don't die. They strategically miscalculate.

i'll jump on the "too many to remember" bandwagon...

    • Getting through the Three Towers to pull phat lewt from the yucky key chests

    • Making it through to the SIK chest at the end of the Qualabar Lugian citadel, using my brand new Silifi of Crimson Stars

    • Trading for my Hoary Mattakar Robe

    • Trading in general

    • The scope and variety in the exploration

I've recently got back into the game after about 10 years away, playing games that just don't measure up to the awesomeness that is AC. If you're a graphics fanatic, you may die of shock upon initial login, but if you love games that enthrall and challenge - get your arse into Dereth now!

    AC LOVE :)

    * Standing at the Lin Life Stone with friends getting a group to run to Lugain Citadel

    * Yelling "Anyone got Sub?"

    * Logging on my toon with lockpick in Sub to pick the gate lock

    * Going to Sub to shop

    * Yelling "STFU or go RED" (and hoping they didn't say "OK")

    * Having my patron run with me and help me get my body

    * Watching the PK wars outside Sub

    * Watching my wonderful patron (the original) Kaleb's Wrath (Jake) kick every ones azz.

    * Knowing the original Ruthless (Tom) and  hunting & dying with him.

Had to edit to add this :

    * GS A !  Killing every Fragment & Shadow you saw for Shards & Dark Slivers

    1. dropping down into the subway and having my stomach taken as if i just did it in real life

    2. being able to buff other people's weapons and armor

    3. making my first composite bow

    4. sing keys

    5. having money weigh you down and loading a noob up with pyreals

    6. the pre macro times is what AC so special, having to go to the boards to make trades, racing to complete the newest monthly update quests, and figuring it all by yourself because there were no cheats back then

    7. several different armor options and being able to dye them (matching amuli outfits because the shoulders and pant bottoms you couldnt dye)

    8. the patron/vassal system was awesome.

the community was excellent, griefing got you blacklisted and people actually worked hard to have a great gaming experience for all.

the queen quest was by far my favoirte, so ingenius.. having to get the bells in order to spawn her, and having to wait to drop them, then killing all the broods for the sing keys(if you werent doing the quest) my first real "raid" leader experience.

I really really loved AC, no other game has come close... oddly enough i googled AC3 today in hopes something was in the works

Cant name any particular best time because there were so many, but one that stands out is my first attempt with my patron and 1 of my vassals and real life friend of my patron in another monarchy doing Johannas (sp?) Vault for the Fire stone after gathering and trading for all my Pyreal Motes to make my Peerless Atlan Axe.

God that was such good times literally on the edge of my seat as I missed a jump and fell into the pit, dieing and hoping to be able to recover my corpse.  Which We were able to do successfully.  Such an awesome Game and I recently went back to it, although the community is rather small and the graphics are dated the game play is still very fun, much better then those themepark bullcrap games like Rift and WoW.

You pay for what you get - enough people consider AC worth paying for to do so, so why should it go F2P?

I'll carry on paying my £10/month for a great game that is updated every month. Because it's worth it.

Oh yes, too many to recall.

The only game I've ever played where it was fun being in a guild. (Astral Dragons on W.E.).

One time up on the Plateau on M.L. when I realized the brood nobles were out, making a dash to the portal down with a couple of broods on my tail, knowing I wasn't going to make it so I jumped off the plateau............... and survived.

Finding a pair of Solerettes with Major War on them, which I proudly gave to our guild leader even though I could have sold them for a ton of coin.

I even recall my first SIK which someone stole while I was muling.

So many more I could recall if I had time to write (but want to avoid the TL;DR)

Bit of a long one but here goes......After farming golems non stop i finnaly had enough for my  Mote weapon (forgot name) so my patron escorted me on the quest, upon reaching the first lugian excavation site my patron and i were met at the entrance by 3 members of a rival monarchy, After what seemd like a 30 second stare down my patron told me "Dont touch em and they wont touch you" so i said cool all i want is my wep anyway lets get this bad boy started, He tells me "Wait here" and so again im like cool i prob got no buisness being here anyway just get me my item so we can leave....

The patron of the other monarchy told his lackeys the same thing which led to myself being alone at the entrance with 2 dicks from a rival monarch, so i spent the next couple of minutes buffing myself all while keeping these dicks in my peripheral cause i already knew what was gonna happen...

So about 15mins in one of the dicks made the first move...Fire Vuln while his bud charged me with a fire UA, i sprinted down the hallways with one guy on my tail and 1 casting fireballs at my back...so now im sprinting into the unknown where im sure to meet my demise by some much higher level luggys all while having 2 pks at my back but then i remembered something my patron told me about this place, he said "whatever you do..Stick to the walls"...alright whatever il do that, it wasnt very long after that i realized why lol, the floor was booby traped with debuff tiles, after seeing the 2 idiots set them off i got this crazy idea of vulning them and leting the luggys do all the work...

So my plan sorta worked out....the luggys droped the melee chasing me and the caster backd off, only prob was between him and myself were 3 luggys with wierd clear looking weapons...yup you guessed it they 2 pieced me with hollows, after telling my patron what went down while running back from the LS he informs me that hes killed the other monarch but to hurry cause theyll prob come back with more, i made it back and saw the casters body at the entrance lol and as i reached the ore i needed i saw there patron laying dead near the objective, i grabed the ore and recalled outta there.

Before we left for the next objective we got 2 more people to come along for safety and sure enough upon exiting the 2nd objective we ran into them again this time there were 4 of em and stood no chance at all againt my escorts, it wasnt till the very last objective that required me to go all the way down to the crater to get my weapon that we saw them again....but boy were they there and in numbers...

there were about 5-6 of em and they were posted up by the steps to my objective, i told the guys not to worry about it and that il get it tommorow np, they said "$^% that" "we came all this way...your gettin your wep", so the plan was to wait 1 min till i made a sprint for the merchant with my weapon as they would try to lure them out after killing one, i waited behind a boulder as they set off into the town holding my objective, i started hearing all kinds of mess from debuffs to aoe's and screams, finnaly i started to sprint into town and head right for the building that was described to me only to find the fight didnt really move anywhere lol.

I hauled ass up those stairs all while getting debuffed to high hell, dragd and dropd my note into the merchants, selected my 1h sword mold thingy, fused it with the ore, traded it back, confirmed the trade, then went kamikaze helping my escorts with heals b4 being killed by 1 arrow lol, afterwards we all eventually got sent back to the LS where i was asked "DID YOU GET IT", i pulled it outta my bag and wielded it and went "HELL YEAH!" lol, i felt like a boss only to find out shortly afterwards that the weapon was pretty lame lol.

    good times good times

Also my first encounter with an Evis was in a dungeon and it scared the shit outta me...it closed the gap so fast it was like a horror movie.
