Your search - xsyon gameplay + combat - did not match any documents.

on google video with "past month" as only filter option. so no thanks.

I agree, M&B has an amazing combat system. Some day a MMORPG will see the wisdom in looking at that game and setaling the good bits.

Xyson though? Cracking game... It's amibition, scope, and imagination is inspiring and really a great indicator of where MMORPGs should be by this time in the genre's life (more then other recent releases anyhow).

Wow! To think that the writer misspeled the name of the game (XYSON!) in all of the text body is quite funny, but most of the forum posters making the same error is even funnier.

Gotta admit though, the name is clunky and somewhat silly.

    LOL

I run an ecommerce site myself not in anyway related to games, but I thought the very same thing when I went to the site. Just a change in the template would go a long way if they do not have tons of time for custom work on the site. Logo/header is ok so like I say just a template change away from one with the old school looking buttons whould help alot I think. Just my thoughts I could be wrong.

If this game did not have a $30.00 download, and $15.00 month pricing I would have already been playing it. In all honesty they really should be matching their one real competitor a tale in the desert which does have a free trial and cast $13.95 a month no download fee. I know this game is much newer and looks much better then a tale in the desert; however any mmo that does not let one play it before buying it I am kind of scared of, and if its an indy mmo even more so as there are so many small mmo's that are free to play I just wonder why this game would not at least offer a free trial? I really hope in the future they do cosider doing so as I am really into community mmo's but I have trouble buying one that does not even let me see it before I buy as I have a stack of main stream mmos I have been burned on that way. As I said if they even offered a free trial I would be interested Just my thoughts I could be wrong.

Rift, while it has its graphics if you can call wow touched up graphics is not for me.   I guess im still looking for something with half way good graphics and great gameplay.

I guess the only question after you comments of waiting for the wipe they are about to go into production with this one.  So that means there done with beta and what not.  So I would have to wait for something like a free trieal or somethng.

There are plans for a free trial soon.  I am thinking maybe 2-6 months after actual release, somewhere in that time frame I hope.  The free trials wont be on the regular game servers due to possible exploitation, but there is definitely going to be some kind of trial, the lead dev has stated he wants one soon.

Honestly though about the graphics, they are obviously not Age of Conan or Rift quality, but this isn't minecraft graphics either.  I was sceptical as well, but after the first time I climbed up a mountain, saw the trees gently swaying the wind from what seemed like miles away...it was quite beautiful...I was sold.  The area actually looks like Lake Tahoe, it's really a pretty game.

If they can get the servers stablized then they will have a very good foundation for a great game. My concern as an enterprise developer myself is the radical roadblock many developers experience between the dev enviroment and the production enviroment. Depending on how much code was invested in a dev enviroment they might find themselves re-writting a ton of code because of performance concerns.

More over, the lags experienced during launch from a load standpoint will be small in comparision once the game is many months old with many villages fully built.

With that said, if I was an investor and wanted to see a game succede this would be one I would be very intrested in seeing develop.

Please do not respond to me, even if I ask you a question, its rhetorical.

Please do not respond to me

I think this game will be a nice change from the normal run of the mill MMO. Ive been following it closely for the last several several weeks. On a crazy not this game could turn out to be real life in a few years. So you might be playing the future when you play this game.

I believe the author should warn that this is not a game per se but rather a simulator. I know it is mentioned but it should be stressed more as if you are looking for combat-centered MMORPG this is not it.

So it is really a nische game, I would say.

    Taken from the article:

"So moving onto the actual gameplay experience itself, Xyson doesn't feel a million miles away from A Tale in the Desert-meets-The Sims. Essentially, Notorious Games have created a survival simulator which calls upon a player to "live off the land" and within this are certain needs and desires from your avatar such as hunger, thirst, and energy."

Not sure why you don't call Xsyon a game.  I guess Eve is just a space simulator and Darkfall is just medievil simulator.

If they ever do a graphics overhaul i might consider it, but as it is now I just can't play with those graphics.  (yes i'm a sad graphics whore)  But the gameplay elements sound amazing, and the all of the enviromental interactions are beyond cool.

The screenshots don't really do the world justice.   I would say the sky is as nice as Vanguard's with a real weather system, moon cycle, real constellations and volumetric clouds.

The trees are nothing special, with some looking bugged but it is all forgiven by having you able to cut them down, the trees fall down, you chop up the wood in small pieces or long logs...well you get the point.

I'm actually enjoying Xsyon and will be playing after the final wipe. Still, this nonsense from their website is pure fantasy, and It makes me feel the need to rant.

The weather system is simply pathetic. It is not remotely real. Rainfall events are just start and stop for the same amount of time. It is not localised, there is no distinction between rain and showers, there is no sense of humidity, or pressure, or wind direction, there is no fog (apart from the green mist) and there appears to be no link between height and temperature. The wind speed appears fixed and the development of clouds (suddenly changing from 'cumulous' appearance to 'stratonimbus' appearance is entirely non-scientific.  I'm sorry, it's about 99% short of a real weather system.

Then the moon cycle is just as embarassing. You cannot create a realistic moon by over-laying a dark disk shape onto a moon image. What we get is a nearly full moon that has a crescent like shape. It's crap, even my eight year old daughter can see why it's a load of nonsense.

None of these things really matter of course, but the claims bug me as they are simply untrue.

I'm always on the lookout for a good sandbox mmo, but this game perplexes me.  Some are calling it a "survival" sim, probably for lack of a better description, but its my understanding you just respawn when you die, which makes it just like any other mmo.  It sounds like theres not really any point to the game in way of plot, which i suppose falls in-line with many simulators, but i just don't understand the appeal of an rpg with no plot, and more importantly, no point.  In other sims there is at least some obvious point, like competition, for example, in racing games or war games, or obtaining loot to better equip your toon for further, more challenging battles which advance the story.  If the only point is survival, then everyone has already accomplished that instantly after creating a character.  If there is no imperical nature to building your toon and tribes, and by that i mean conquering other tribes and land, then what is the point, except for wasting time?  This game appears more along the lines of sim-city, or sim-people, except for this game has no appearant challenges that must be faced and conquered, no deadlines, or impending doom for failure to complete things. It seems as though you could just start a toon, and go on forever doing not much of anything with no real consequences, or motivation to accomplish anything, such as being rich or powerful, or saving the fate of humanity, or anything ressembling some motive.  What is exactly is the goal as a player of this game?   Survival?  how is that a motivation if that requirs nothing at all but pressing "start"?  Am i missing something here?

Well if you were interested you could have read the plot & what the game is all about on the website.

I've been playing a week or two know, and really enjoyed it so far.

The developers are quick to inform , particularly as they track down some lag issues which have plagued the game since the launch failed, and I'm sure they'll get it sorted out.

I am soloing, which is not bad, because you socialise by looking out for others to trade/barter with, and exploring around I've seen some great looking tribe layouts, very inventive.

The pvp is not the primary purpose of the game by any means, although there seems to have been an influx of players lately who put pvp over everything else and are making themselves extremely vocal in game and on the Xsyon forums. Just shows how much people are enjoying it , and can see the 'potential' in it, although I am very cynical when I normally read the word potential.

It remains to be seen if the devs can pull off what they hope to do with it, but I sincerely hope they do, because , although it is a niche game, it may well be the best game of it's type in the months, years to come.

Just another player's perspective, I am not a fanboy or whatever, I am just enjoying myself, time flies by when I am logged in (which has led to some very late nights)

You seem to be missing quite a bit, especially the fact that mos tof the things you listed as goals or reasons for playing are there, only in this game you decide for yourself which of those goals you want to achieve rather than having someone hold your hand and say "Here is your goal in life, and you achieve it by going here and killing this thing and getting these items".

As has been said before, several features eithe rhavent been implemented yet or are currently turned off due to the testing going on to prepare for launch. The tribal warfare & alliance systems arent in place yet, but they will be in the near future. So there is the answer to your " If there is no imperical nature to building your toon and tribes, and by that i mean conquering other tribes and land, then what is the point, except for wasting time?"

You need to remember, what is in place now, and for the next 6-9 months is the PRELUDE. We are just beggining to rebuild the world & civilization. There is no society to speak of, so how can there be any grand goals? There is no real basis to determine good & evil, rich & poor, strong & weak. The world & the people in it is very primitive right now. There are no real cities, laws, relgions, etc etc that we are used to in our own lives. Right now the entire goal is to get past the JUST surviving and begin laying the foundations for all of those things. As players influence the world and things begin shaping up, the players & tribes themselves will be creating the goals, quests, etc. And more content will be added through the actions of the players.

Think of it this way. In our society children are sent off to school at certain ages. They have teachers there who (along with parents) educate the children on a variety of subjects and basically how to determine your goals/plans for the future and how to go about doing those things. However we already have thousands of years of moral values, teachings, research, etc which have shaped the world around us and we are kind of stuck trying to fit in somewhere within these already established paramaeters.

In Xsyon, there are no teachers. Its up to you to learn those things on your own, and along the way shape the entire world to suit your desires. Rather than following someone elses rules & belief systems for religion, you can simply create your owna nd hope others will follow and grow the religion. Rather than trying to get a job at some established corporate business, such as retail store chains which accept our $ in exhange for goods/services, you start up your own trade systems & "stores" and with the help of your tribe & friends possibly also set the trend for how all future business is done.

The goal is not simply to "survive" by creating a character. The goal is to turn that survivor into a driving force in the world through whatever means you choose, and to help shape the evolution of the world into your vision of a perfect world. OR, to stop everyone else from shaping it into what they want. Just like our own world, those people & tribes who achieve military might, ecoomical status, or diplomatic/political influence will determine not only the current state of things but also the future. Our world would not be what it is if not for the influence of those in power who have come long before us, just like Xsyon's future will be determined by the actions of the players from the start of the game.

if you want it to be a survival sim. then when you die take the game into your own hands and delete your toon and roll a new one. can call him deadguy II or what ever you named your first one. its a sand box. play the way you want.

How many delicate flowers have you met in Counterstrike?

I got a case of beer and a chainsaw waiting for me at home after work.

Xyson is more of an interactive chat room than anything. If thats what you want then go at it.

I dont see this " game " lasting honestly.. Unless the always famous Indy " Miracle Patch " shows up. Which has yet to ever happen.

    I'm getting dejavu.

This reminds me of the Earthrise first look that was all glowing praise. It failed to mention the fact that the game was laggy as hell. Which is exactly the same problem Xyson is having only worse. So we are getting another rushed launch for funding.

The only thing I wiil say is that Xyson has sand in the sandbox as opposed to Earthrise.

That makes complete sense... unless youve actually played the game or done any sort of research about it whatsoever.

In fairness, Xsyson has yet to launch and its release date has been pushed back 2 weeks to accomadate the problems which are effecting the game. This is beta we are talking about,
