Do Not Use The Uninstaller!

RagnarokWarRagnarokWar Member UncommonPosts: 35

I and another fellow have both reported having our Program Files wiped clean by the the uninstaller for this game. It doesn't just erase DW Online, it erases your ENTIRE PROGRAM FILES FOLDER. I stoppped it at 22 gigs, and I have absolutely no idea what all got erased. However, I'm warning you all now: DO NOT UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES LET THE UNINSTALLER UNINSTALL FOR YOU.

Ouch man that totally sucks. Hope you did lose any unreplaceable porn, err pictures or anything like that.

I remember this happening with another game like 6-7 years back. I want to say it was Eve, but Im not sure.

Alright, I think I've figured out what causes it to uninstall everything like it does. It only seems to do this if you choose your own installation route. If you choose Program Files, it will install directly there, instead of creating an "aeriagames" subfolder, then installing it there. Thus, when you uninstall, it begins removing everything, going by folder alphabetically, until it uninstalls everything. There is a way to get back any data you lost, though.

Go there. It's a freeware downloadable data recovery program. It can surface scan, or deep scan. As long as you haven't written over the data with new data, it can be recovered. So don't go install crazy or start restocking music. This program can tell you if it's recoverable, what the file was written over by, and generally you can get most all of your data back if you're quick enough.

Also, what I lost during that time was my 2k Games folder (Borderlands) and my Activision folder (CoD4 and 5). My CoD save hadn't been backed up yet, and I had unlocked the Golden Uzi and several of the rifle Red Tiger skins.

Same thing happened to me. I stopped it in time, thank god. I only lost a few files, the worst of them being all of my Sims 2 games... (So many expansions, lol)

But yeah, don't use the uninstaller. :)

The funny part of it is that there's still absolutely zero adressing of it.

The mod's delete threads about it, and the only mention of it in their forums is

"Why did you change the default install directory?  It's your own fault!" (sadly that's almost word for word...)

Yeah, Aeria has some of the worst support, and the dumbest/laziest events in all of MMORPG's, but it's still ridiculous.

EVE was not about the uninstaller. It was a update that erased your boot.ini file which your computer needs to boot up. If you reset your PC it could no longer boot windows.

That sucked. I had to reinstall windows, because I had reset my PC. Found out later there was a easier way to fix, but couldn't get help with my PC down.

Thanks for the heads up, am about to try it out in a few minutes, and well.. not even a big single player DW fan so it probably won't stay installed long, so i'll just make sure to use the defualt location lol ;)
