Warhammer Online: Age of Reckoning: Dev Plans for Magus & Engineer

SBFordSBFord Former Associate EditorMember LegendaryPosts: 33,129

Warhammer Online devs have revealed the first information about upcoming changes to both the Magus and Engineer careers. In particular, turrets and Daemons will receive some attention from the dev team to make them more effective for those who have chosen these careers.

  • For Engineers, a portion of the character's Ballistic Skill, Weapon Skill, and Wounds from equipment will also affect their turrets.

  • For the Magus, a portion of the character's Intelligence and Wounds from equipment will also affect their daemons. Additionally, the daemons' autoattacks will now deal magical damage - Elemental for the Pink and Blue Horrors, and Spirit for the Flamer.

  • For both careers, the character will begin receiving a new effect while they remain near their turret / daemon - Improvised Upgrades for the Engineer, and Unholy Empowerment for the Magus. This effect will start as a +4% damage buff, and will increase every 2 seconds by another 4%, up to a max of +20% damage after 10 seconds. If the character moves away from their turret / daemon, the effect will begin dropping back down, eventually fading from them entirely until they return to their turret / daemon's side.

Devs are looking for player feedback regarding these announced changes so be sure to read more at the Warhammer Herald.

I quit the game long ago for various reasons (mostly because my Witch Elf was mostly useless). I returned recently, and have been leveling a Magus. Probably should have just gone that way from the beginning, it's a ton of fun. The changes sound interesting... I might even continue to subscribe!

i tought i read somewhere they where gonna dump a fiew servers cause they dont have the people to populate them anymore.

dunno if true....maybe just a rumor??

Engi's and Magus' really need this buff? I play every class and my engi does pretty darn good damage; I feel like this isn't nessesary and probably will make engi's op.

Here's an idea for you, why not make the gameplay better so that people would actually come back and play it?

Great change for Magus, but why did Engi need it? They were good as it is.

Yeah, engis are going to be prety redonkulous with this change.

Magus certainly needs some love, but I didn't see anything wrong with the eng.

I'm not an IT Specialist, Game Developer, or Clairvoyant in real life, but like others on here, I play one on the internet.

My two Engineers do really excellent damage already, second only to my Bright Wizards, and depending on the situation, sometimes exceeding them - and the Engineers certainly have way more utility. But hey, better a boost than swinging the nerf bat at them!

I'm always encouraged when the dev teams of games start getting creative with character development and ask for player feedback.

For all the detractors of Warhammer Online, play an Engineer and tell me it isn't fun :D

I think the idea is great.  But for some reason, I wouldn't be surprised if we see that stacking damage buff bug and buff your group, and stack with other engis.  I really think engis will become a FotM class like WLs are currently.

Up to and including tier 3 both Engi and Magus are fairly decent classes. Tier 4 and both of them may look like they do well on the scoreboards with decent damage numbers, but by that point the damage they put out can be shrugged off as it's mostly very crap DoT's just constantly being spread around. Low damage, thinned out, long duration DoT's.

The point being that to actualy kill anyone on them takes both a lot of effort and some luck, much more so than any other class. They are underpowered, always have been and were made even more so by the changes to CC a while back.

They just need to make Dark Age of Camelot 2...this is just getting ridiculous.  How they can even afford to keep this Titanic afloat is beyond me.

Archers don't duel weild or carry shields (like they do in warhammer fantasy battle)

You can see arrows slowly shoot through the air and 'plop' on the enemy (silly)

Most ranged damage is based on various versions of dot type damage

    Movement is lunky

Pathfinding on pets is horrid (White Lion anyone?)

Each class has enough issues to really make it not fun overall as an mmorpg.

They need 3 realms to prevent boring stalemates on servers where one side rules them all.

Whatever happened to the pvp Darkness Falls concept? LoTD is garbage at best.

In DAoC it felt like we had 3 separate mmorpgs - because each faction was so unique, and you could literally level to end game without ever seeing an enemy.

Instanced pvp is owned by WoW fans.  Why can't we borrow from the game that got this going - and have a few non instanced siege pvp simulation areas and a huge epic keep zone associated with each realm - ala DAoC.  If you say "We have that now?" then you never played Dark Age of Camelot...

This game isn't fun - I don't know a single person that plays - yet we all agreed that DAoC was the best part of our mmorpg lives.

This change is still not nearly enough to re buff the engineer. I don't quite remember how long ago it was, but their damage was nerfed by about 40%, their crowd control was basically taken away, and they still have a useless path that hasn't been changed for 2 years. This change is a step in the right direction, but waaay more needs to be done to the two classes.
