FFXIV Housing

I mean, is it just me or is anybody else concerned about if the game will have housing. I don't mean concerned, but at least curious, you know :)

Since FF11 did, I am almost certain 14 will as well. I hope they took cliff notes from EQ2 and allowed it to not only be extremely customizable, but allow other people to enter it as well. Interactive furniture that provded stat bonuses as well, would be a plus. Perhaps some easy mini-games inside it, that could allow players to actually relax inside their home, while also providing entertainment for them as well. House pets and the like would be a nice addition too I think. I love EQ2's housing setup, and think FF14 could only benefit from such a similar concept.

yea i agree, i just hope they get that aspect right, and at least lets you climb in the game also.

It's a concern of mine too. IMO nothing will live up to SWG's housing system, but I hope for at least some kind of housing in FFXIV!

All in FFXI already and i am sure they will not take a step back and exclude it from ff14. Can't have pets but you can grow plants (gardening) in your House. I remember the times when the community begged SE to allow people to enter houses. They listened and included it in a very secure and smart way.

i think a lot of the housing fans see that we dont need a  moghouse to change jobs anymore and get that feeling they will not include it. But this being a game where again gear is very important and 1 character can play them all, some sort of housing will be nessicry to atleast hold that gear, so it would be non-sencical to not have some form of housing.

Then FFXIV might as well just be The Sims.  I do agree having some housing options are nice, but stay on par with FFXI would be good enough really.  However, if complex housing is going to eat up resources spent on gameplay, then i rather they just dumb down housing and spend it developing the gameplay.

i never played an mmo with a housing system that was interacive just used for standing around or storage.  but if it was in ff11 then it will be in ff14 and if they do it right they should use all the complains from players and try to build the system from a players point of view

Yea i didn't really want the Devs to have only that aspect of housing, but also housing for guilds/clans like in AoC if im correct.

From reading this description of the Carpenter, it seems we will be able to craft Furniture,

Furniture is something typically found within a house, I'm not going to say that there will be housing in any shape or form, (heh)

but being able to craft furniture is at least something we can link to it.

    from there website:

    "Going with the Grain"

The foremost workers of wood, carpenters possess expert knowledge of the hardness, pliability, weight, and value of all types of timber. Their creed is to bring these natural traits to bear in the form of various wares, including utensils and furniture.

I am pretty sure you will see some form of housing because I am thinking with all the equipment needed your going to have to have more spaces then the regular inventory.

From what I understand (this could just be fuzzy memory from info released during alpha) - there will be instanced housing much like in FFXI.  I don't believe there are any plans for non-instanced housing.

Companies won't do non-instanced housing anymore because it chews up a ton of resources and slows the game down. However, if done correctly (see SWG and Vanguard for examples) then it adds to the IMMERSION of the game.

Yes, Vanguard was horrible in the beginning but eventually was fine (atleast on my PC) even with the non-instanced housing.

Instanced housing is pointless IMO because the entire point of having a house in an MMO is not only for storage but also for bragging rights when you decorate your house with furniture, plans, and other items. Hell in SWG, people actually paid other players GOOD MONEY to decorate their houses.

    It became a viable profession.

This game should have NON-INSTANCED housing, IMO.

Well, just because the housing is instanced doesn't mean you can't invite other people into your house - it just may not look that special from the outside.  In most games I've seen with non-instanced housing, there's only a few floorplans for houses anyway, so most of them still look similar from the outside, and you still need to invite people in for them to enter.

I liked LoTRO's middle-ground approach. Instanced neighborhoods. When you got to the housing area you selected which one you lived in and zoned in. Then you had a whole little village with small and large personal and guild houses. Their decoration system sucked, but you could decorate the inside and outside of your house.

Sig so that badges don't eat my posts.

I'd be happier without housing of any kind being in the game; it adds nothing to my enjoyment of an MMO. And I really don't understand the argument that housing is necessary because of the number of items in your inventory — most MMOs without housing of any kind have a very convenient storage or bank area in every city.

I can see your point clearly and i agree with you to some extent on part about the banking and storage,

But, i think rather then have a house per player, have guild houses?

that way people can band together and fund some great social areas, each member can have little say in its decoration if wanted but majority of it is a shared space to display not only our exploits but the joint exploits of the guild?

something like this would be nice,  if for esthetic and bragging rights only.

Such a socialist perspective for ingame econmics >_>

I hope to see the return housing in ffxiv, one thing I think ffxi did better with it than most titles is the almost 'mini game' aspect of things like gardening. This mixed with EQ2 style would be awesome.

My concern though is though it would seems as though the retainer system has replaced the functional elements of housing - namely storage while you're in a city and job changes (by way of banking weapon/gear sets). The retainer is also a personal npc aide, like your mog was in ffxi so there's certainly enough similarities between the two systems.

Fingers crossed for customizable houses though. Hell even if it's an update down the road - The first EQ only just got houses what 12 years after launch?

Now heres some food for thought: I really hope that FFXIV will have housing that involves "building your home". By that phrase it could involve gathering wood minterals(stone etcl) to build it. Not just a mere exchange of currency for something to be "slapped down onto a specified area". How about a growing process, that takes time too (like starcraft 2, just on a more larger scale & with more involvment necessary though).  Or what about if you have multiple players aiding you in the building process and your currency is dolled out to them (for payment of course) depending on the time they invest (at your discretion but with  a miniumum amount they must be paid upon completion of building aid/service) .

So many opportunitties for housing to succeed only takes a little ingenuity and added creativiity outside of the box and this game could have quite a bit of uniqueness and playability. I just hope they do not get into the cookie cutter mentality and rehash the game with only a new handful of monsters and characters (storyline yada yada ) in the expansions to come. That would be a certain tragedy.

What are you talking about??? socialist??? capitalistic mentality??

jeepers. theres no need to be cruel, it was a simple suggestion, i just think its nice to share what you accomplish with your friends. it can have your name under what you did, so that others cant take credit for it.

sorry if it made you feel bad little fella.
