    oo nice update to OP even if alot of people are quitting the OP shows 3k new people :)


    darkfall has become a much better game since release population compared to release is still much lower but this is mostly because AV split the servers. I think there is easily much more people playing darkfall than at release its just a shame its split over 2 servers because the pop kind of sucks. really wish they would merge servers.

    If I understand the method right, it is the total. Active player is the one that logs in at least once within said period of time(week).

    You can twist the numbers here and there to reflect numbers representing some negligable group of players but there are two major uknowns - unclanned people and now trial accounts.

    Making a guess from here, I would say 20k subscribers is absolute top. Realistacaly you are looking at 15k subs total, imo.


    The main issue is the EU server and overall solution and needs for two localized servers.

    Taking this poll into consideration http://forums.darkfallonline.com/showthread.php?t=239815 if I understand it right, there is roughly 25.811 subscribers (with like 10% margin of error due to the small sample size on the forum)? The clan count shows only players that were online at leas once during the last 30 days?

    Hopefully that poll will get quite a few more subscribers responding on the official site.  At 147 responses it's hard to say how viable it is currently.  But yeah, your number is a rough approximation given the current low number of respondents.

     

    As for the clan count numbers taken from the sites linked below... the clan count number is taken from DarkFall clan counts itself, and has been confirmed to be accurate at the time the data is taken.  Remember, DarkFall does not cull members from a clan... a clan officer must do that manually.

    I have no idea why they are calculating the two servers differently in regards to the clan activity.  Considering the disparity of the times used for calculating the activity it's probably safe to assume the US server is more active.

     I think this the result of the ongoing perception Aventurine is dealing with it's deficiencies. It will be interesting to see the effect of the winback program on population both short and long term. There can be no doubt the trials have helped.

    Yeah, I agree that Trials have helped.

    Right now though the biggest obstacle that DarkFall faces is their own player-base.  

    The "hardcore vets" are making a pretty big stink about Aventurine trying out different ideas to lessen what many consider the "grind".

     

    To be fair, some of the "vets" are worried about another NGE happening in DarkFall.  Those worries are indeed justified

     

      IF  

    Aventurine does indeed end up doing what some other MMO companies have done.  I personally don't think the changes are anywhere near that level though.

     

    If DarkFall's population grows I'd think the "vets" would have to admit that the Devs. did the right thing.  If the population shrinks... it could get very, very ugly on ForumFall.  Well... even uglier than it usually is.  image

    NGE? I can't see these guys doing anything that radical. They know they're not going to suddenly drastically increase their numbers at this point no matter what they do.  They've stuck to their guns this far and while they may make some mistakes they aren't going to change the fundamental nature of Darkfall.

    I agree with you... just saying there are a fair number of DarkFall "vets" (both here and on the official boards) who are against the upcoming changes that Tasos presented to try and ease the "grind".  

    They deem these changes as the "care-bearing" or "Trammelfying" of DarkFall.  It'll be interesting to watch and see how the changes work out for them.  

    At least they are trying something... in my opinion that is better than ignoring the issue.  Hopefully it works out the way they think it will.

    Funny how people assume that the game is dying because their friends quit or because people are hiding out in clan cities so they arent seen often.

    NEWS FLASH! A bank was robbed the other day and a man opened fire on the customers being held hostage. One customer zig-zag sprinted until he found cover. When questioned later he explained that he was a hardcore Darkfall Online player and knew just what to do.

    I had to post in this thread, because I think it's pretty funny how much denial some of you have over the state of this game.

     

    Despite the population never actually seeing any significant proportional growth, some of you look at one update where theres an increase and then say "hey guys, see? the game isn't dead!  Its growing!  rejoice!!!"

     

    and then the next three updates show nothing but user dropouts.

     

     

    Stop trying to deny the truth, the game is dying.  In fact, the game is already dead.  If you go to NPC's and you only find 2 or 3 users, then yes, in almost all MMO standards, the game is dead.

     I would be still playing Darkfall if it wasn't for the fact I moved out to a rural area and I cant even get DSL or cable internet, got wireless 3G/4G only picks up 3G atm hopefully when they switch on 4G in St.Louis and expand out from there I will be able to play FFA/PVP MMOs again (bad latency). I do miss my guild though and I miss my toons if I ever get the chance to play again I got a lot of catching up to do but then again I don't complain about grinds cause that isnt why I played to begin with.

    Any updates for July?   

    And thanks to the OP for attempting to bring in a nice splash of simple, straightforward reality.    The numbers may not be accurate to the 0.001% but they certainly paint a picture that people can see.
