Do you use more thasn one ship?

The time has come to put the trolls away and instead have some threads that actually talk about the game and it's play. In the Star Trek universe you never see a Captain able to call in to space dock and say, "I do not feel like using the Heavy Cruiser today, I want to take the Light Crusier for a test spin.

I know that kind of falls under RP but so be it. I personally only keep the ship I am using. What about everyone else.

I don't believe there is an advantage for keeping your ship nor do I think there is a disadvantage so I just wind up keeping all my old ones for now.

Always amuses me when the self-proclaimed constructive posters often start their posts with a jibe remark about trolls (Read: people who criticize the game).

It is like they want the thread to turn into a flamewar?

But to answer the question: No, I only use one type of ship in each tier but I have only reached tier 3 so far. Maybe when I am at Tier 4 I will try out the different types of ships.

The thread title and poll are slightly different.

-Do you USE more than one ship?

No. Once I skilled up to the next rank I stopped using the Miranda. I highly doubt I'll ever go back to it. I'm going Science all the was so there's no need to waste skills in the other ships that I don't intend to fly

    -Do you keep your ships?

Well, yes I still have the Miranda, but I won't ever use it.

    Currently Playing: World of Warcraft

    Fair comment.

I bought both of the science ships when I hit rear admiral and will probably use them both since they have different BO setups and different functions.  Otherwise, I don't see the need to use more than 1 ship type while leveling other than just something fun to do.

Due to my skill sets I use a Escort or a Cruiser. As such I tend to fluctuate quite often. SO yes, I keep more then one skip. In fact I have 8 ships in the docks for various purposes. My baby has to be my t2 cruiser though. Quick, efficient and really survivable. I managed to take down a fully rigged Klingon with that little ship.

I did too but will probably on use the Deep Space vessel for most things, an ensign tac bo slot just isn't useful enough until the promised changes to 2 of the beam skills appear.

The "spare" ships also serve as a component bank.

I agree, the 2nd Eng BO seems far more versatile than a second Tac BO slot.

EDIT: Is there a way to trash ships? As I never looked as I see no benefit to deleting them.

I keep all the ships I've grown out of, but I don't use ships from another ship class than the one I specialize in.

The problem with your approach is that there are levels attached to the ships you're fighting. So if you ever go down in tiers to help your buddies, you'd be effectively trivializing the content. So by keeping the ships you've grown out of, you're allowing yourself to trade down.

In the TV series, a Bird of Prey is a Bird of Prey. In STO, a Bird of Prey 0 is far stronger than a Bird of Prey -3, and far weaker than a Bird of Prey +3. So in a perfect gameworld, where the size and type of ship indicates the difficulty relative to the size and type of ship your commanding, your approach would make sense, but you have to take into consideration the game mechanics, even when role-playing. That's just from one roleplayer to another.
