EVE Online: FanFest Breaking News

SzarkSzark News ManagerMember Posts: 4,420

MMORPG.com is at EVE FanFest, and here on the last day, the developers have released a great deal of new information about the future of the game. Rather than making you wait until we have time to write an in-depth article (which we will in the coming days), we wanted to bring you this hastily put-together overview of what we have learned.

When we released our information on Walking on Stations earlier in the week, we promised you that there would be a number of new and exciting announcements coming out of this year’s FanFest. Today, in a two hour presentation, the folks from CCP have dropped a number of intriguing announcements in our collective laps.

While I am still at the convention center and the event and announcements are continuing to roll out, I wanted to take a few minutes to update you on what we now know about the future of the sci-fi sandbox MMO.

We already know that the company’s winter expansion, Quantum Rise will launch this Tuesday, and so I’ll save more specifics on that for a time when I have a chance to write. Instead, I’m just going to give you a few bullet points to keep you up to speed:

Check out the Breaking News direct from EVE Fanfest.

It was a photo finish, and unfortunately we lost and the laptop battery died before we could post the link.

The link should work properly now.

    OMG! planetary flight

If these guys add a ground game to Eve i'll never have to play another MMO.... ever!

Great time to be a Eve player, so many good features coming in the near future.

This game has limitless possibilities and in my opinion that's the way it should be in every mmo.

    PLaying: EvE, Ryzom

    Waiting For: Earthrise, Perpetuum

Been playing EVE since 2006 now. It's the only MMO that's kept me this long, and I don't plan on leaving any time in the foreseeable future.

Walking in Stations, Atmospheric flight, quests, customizable Tech 3 ships (mmmmm... lem'me wipe the drool, LOL), it all sounds tasty to me, :)

Other MMO-owners could seriously take a lesson from CCP.

Offer something different and reap the benefits of one of the most dedicated player base ever.

Keep it coming CCP, I'll be here waiting, :) :)

Just wondering how you can loath what has been done to it?  It is a far better game today than it was, I can't imagine anyone disagreeing with that either.  It is still a very harsh universe.  If your favorite fotm configuration got changed, that is just too bad, it is called balance.

  • Hey I am a new player and i like the game alot I just find it hard to find a good community and vent using corps u guys no of

NEW PLAYERS STAY AWAY FROM EVE ONLINE!

unless you like free for all PVP because you will begin to getting ganked within hours of starting eve

non-pvpers are just blood in the water to the pvp gankers that harass you and destroy your ships that may take you weeks to buy.

most non-pvpers get fustrated and cancel in just a few months and there are no large non-pvp guilds  if a non-pvp guild gets too large they get war declared on them and become fare game 24/7  this means you either become pvp  or you sit in a station doing nothing for a week (if not more) or you cancel and go to another game where you can play in relative peace.

eve is still a very nitch game that is why they have so few subscribers

STARTREK ONLINE will get more subscribers on their first day than eve has

this new ship construction thing is a direct responce to STO ship system

the wormholes will really only be for PVPers because they will destroy anyone else that isnt a pvp template like them and you can never catch up  you will be stuck with the same noob universe that hasnt changed since release.

EVE looks prety but the universe is dead and boring and the quests are as fun as a tax audit.

some day maby the icelandic brain will thaw out and they will realize how bad they are messing up (not as bad as sony but prety bad)

save your money and wait for STO.

make a world, not a game, we dont want another game.

lol, baby sitting.just out of beta it was a free for all.you could take someone out and actually have a chance to out run ccp.People would actually use ccp to gank other players by tricking them into firing on you putting some outside the box thinking into the game. Not now you are dead if you mess with them..At one time I'd almost maxed all my time skills,And of course its impossible now. I just fill that combat has been taken out of the players hands and made a statistic. These are just some of my peaves and I dont expect others to agree. There are more but I'm just not willing to take the extra time to share, although I've answered them all in questionares sent to me . I rarely answer back so this will be my last post .But this game is always been close to my heart.

    Indeavor to persevere

Well I read this far and ignore the rest of the post since the baove statement shows the poster does not have a clue. My girl friend is sitting next to me right now. Has done a ton of serious trade and mission running, inlcuding low sec in the 3 months she has been playing. She has been in ZERO PVP action the whole time.

I am running a lot in border regions, sec ratings from 0.4 to 0.1 and have in the last 3 months with this new character seen zero PVP.

Eve does have a ton of PVP but to say you will get ganked as soon as you start is just flat a lie. Oh I am sure a SMALL percentage might have seen some nub attacking them early but a serious gank, sorry but I call BS.

Hehehe when a corp war decced a newebie corp I was in I had a lot of fun warping in firing once then warping out before they could even get a lock

I find it amazing that by 2020 first world countries will be competing to get immigrants.

According to Utube  this is EVE's atmospheric flight ..according to a guy that posted about the  video you dont actually see the atmospheric part of the demo until 1:20.

that was an old concept prototype about 5-6 years old. They'll more and likely be doing the entire thing from scratch again.

Well, good for your gf, but, have her leave carebear space...if she is not ransomed/destroyed within 30 mintes...let me know. I have been out of carebear space 3 and only 3 times. Lost 2 drakes, and raven...will never play this game again. No, you can not have my stuff, and yes, I will be careful not to let the door hit me in the ass on way out.

Eve servers a purpose...keeps the psychopaths off the street...thank god for Eve.

You obviously missed the part where he said she was travelling in lowsec and he was running a lot of missions in 0.4-0.1 systems for months without getting attacked. Hmmm maybe you're spectacular powers or observation (or lack thereof) was the reason why you lost a ship everytime you ventured out of highsec.

  • Mopar63Mopar63 Member UncommonPosts: 300

So do you consider 0.2 carebear space? She flies in 0.2 and a 0.3 system most of the time right now. As for 0.0 well thats kind of a given. In fact in ANY MMO if you go to a specified PVP area it is a given. So are you suggesting she go to 0.0?

ALso the person I comment about had said within 30 minutes of beginning play. I really doubt you lost your ships that you listed within 30 minutes of beginning EVE, especially since I doubt you could fly them at that time.

Look you want to say 0.0 space is dangerous, well DUH! But to make a comment that the entire game is that way is a LIE.

yeah if they ever add a ground based avatar game I would be there in a heart beat. I love the idea and style of EVE but just something about ONLY being in a space ship just doesnt hold my interest.

but damn some great stuff there keep up the great work CCP, hopefully future developers will look at EVE and copy it instead of making another stupid WoW clone.

That's because you guys are always crying and smack talking and thus playing more and more into these pirate corps favor and give them more reason the wardec and gank you.

See. I have been in an Alliance with small corps. Couple mining corps and mission running corps and one corp doing some small PVP. Nothing fancy.

One day some pirate corp full of griefing kiddies war decced us and started harrasing us.

Rule number 1: Radio silence! They smack talk all the time, you don't! You keep silent and thus bore the hell out of them. Smack talk back and you do exactly what they want!

Rule number 2: Identify all those people from that pirate corp and add them to your friendlist. This way you know who and when they come online and when they enter your system. So you can do your daily bussiness and warp to a station when they enter your sector.

Rule number 3: Scrape ISK together within your alliance and hire a pro Merc Corp. Average price is around 300-500mil. ISK. Not much for a reasonable active Alliance.

See, I have been playing EVE Online for almost 2 years and we have been in this kind of situation before.

We hired a famous Merc Corp. And these guys were actually nice and took us on a ride and showed us how to PVP without much risk. Like good fitted cheap frigates. Because we were really inexperienced in PVP within EVE Online!

They took us on the hunt and we had great fun getting back onto that pirate corp and ganked back. HARD!

That pirate corp lost hundreds of millions of ISK worth (if not billions) on Tech2 ships, componets and implants! And we lost just a dozen cheap frigates and some cruisers and maybe a T1 battleship or two.

Our hired Merc Corp had so much fun in getting these guys, that they wardecced them for another week free of charge.

After that. The message was send and we were NEVER EVER war decced again!

    ---------------------

Second. If you are new to EVE Online. Then you join an NPC corp of your faction by default. And as long as you are part of an NPC corp you are pretty much safe in High Sec space nor can you be War Decced.

You got plenty of room to learn to play the game and have fun in lot of what EVE has to offer.

You can run plenty of missions and do lots of mining. Get your skill training up past the million SP and specialise. In a month you can get some decent specialisation. And also earn lots of ISK to build a good buffer.

Insuring all your ships is also VERY IMPORTANT! I lost count in how many people forget about this and keep crying in losing their ships and ISK because they forget to insure their ships!!

EVE Online has become very Newbie friendly. It's just not an easy to get into game in wich everything is handed to you on a platter like World of Warcraft or Warhammer Online for that matter.

You actually have to spend time and read on things to learn the game! That's what a Sandbox MMO is all about!

So yes. If you want everything handed to you on a platter. Then this game is NOT for you!

    Cheers

Sigh, this person has no clue what he's talking about, best if folks just put him on ignore.

EVE keeps getting better and better for gamers who are up to the challenge.

    Not everyone is.

Cry some more about being careless.

You complain about PVP yet you travel into PVP areas and cry someone PVP's you.

EVE is a game where you can't carelessly stroll into any star system. It is very easy to avoid PVP by staying in secure space. Which has MANY systems.

That's like saying your a KKK guy walking alone through Compton and wondering why you get jumped.

    THINK!

I love that EVE just keeps on getting better.  Space MMO's are not for everyone, but there is so much flexibility in EVE that you can make your own fun, and we don't have to pay for improvements.

And no, you don't "get PvP'd straight away"; if you want to stay safe you can.  I've lost one ship in over two years ... sure I'm not a PvP player in EVE but I still really enjoy my gametime.  Of course, the no PvP thing is going to change ... after all, stealth bombers are not that good for missions
