Lifetime Accounts

VengerVenger Member UncommonPosts: 1,309

How strick it Turbine with giving away lifetime accounts?  I have a friend that has a lifetime membership but doesn't plan to play anymore.  So I was thinking about taking over his account.   My only concern is does Turbine actively goes after this and bans accounts?

How would they ever find out? Maybe someone with a lifetime sub can chime in here, but I think once you have a lifetime sub, you'll never have to visit the account setup page unless you are going to be adding expansion keys.

Well if they keep track of ip or notice a complete change of ip and email account atttached.

Well you should be fine as long as your friend is willing to keep the account info the same. If you try to change the account data you will more then likely loose the account as I believe it will not transfer.

With Mines of Moria coming out soon, there may be a need to go to account management to handle adding the expansion.

A friend thought they were doing me a favor by buying some gold online for me, but within a few minutes of logging in and getting my mail I was contacted by a GM who read me the riot act and threatened to have me banned...which would suck since I have the lifetime subscription.  Oddly, they didn't take the gold away.  Maybe they didn't know how much I got, just that I got something from an account they had flagged.

So they are watching, on some level.  I don't know how closely.

People change email accounts often enough and people relocate all the time or change IPs. Just so long as there isn't a new IP every day they have nothing to say about it, because they can't prove anything.

That is kind of what I was thinking.

They don't have to prove anything. If an account is suspicious, Turbine (or any other game company) reserves the right to terminate service. Transferring of accounts is a violation of Terms of Service and Turbine can ban the account.

To the OP, if you want to play the game, your best option is to buy your own account, just like the rest of us.

With competition for players amongst mmorpg's so intense these days I can't imagine anyone getting banned unless it was an extremely serious offense - like distributing meth and kiddie porn in the Shire or something.  They need our $$$ too badly to kick people out for lessor infractions.  Hopefully I won't get banned for this post...

I've been playing lotro on 4 different pc in 3 different cities since it came out, still there. I think your quite safe, unless you send em a mail saying you are using your friend account with some kiddy porn pics attached.
