This information is provided by Khrakantasse

As I can speak several different languages, and since someone asked me to create a FAQ(which I found interesting), I'll try to compile various interesting aspects of the game here within one thread. I'll try to keep it updated with the latest information as soon as I find anything new.

I hope you'll enjoy it and that it will help some of you to understand some unclear details about the game.

If you don't like english, there is a German version of this article, copied and translated by Shonju here.

The FAQ is something that cannot be compiled alone, so help is greatly appreciated. If you have something that you believe is important and may be of interest to the community, feel free to send me a private message and I'll be happy to update it's content. Of course, the ones who'll have contributed to this FAQ will have their names credited. Thanks you.

The titles as images is currently being tested, feel free to give some feedbacks.

While I cannot get into many details at all, I can say this much:

There are changes for the european market.

We have the ability to change nearly everything for the western MMORPG market.

Will there be some kind of item shop in the game?

As another f2p game, some sort of item shop is necessary to provide revenues and profits for the company.

While there will be exclusive item in this shop, players will have the chance to get their hands on equal items in the game without using real currency.

Is there a lvl cap in the game?

From what is currently understood, the supposed level cap is 50.

Is there a good lvl of customization for our character?

Yes, there are a great deal of options to customize your character to make it appear different from the others.

You can watch a video about that here (in german but watching is enough ).

http://de.youtube.com/watch?v=hbYDuj...eature=related

Will the game support custom Ui Mods?
(Thanks to circaender for the information)

It seems that like many other MMOs, the players will be able to build customized UI Mods (personal add-ons) to modify their interface in various ways. The basic user interface will also be scalable.

How do I register for the closed beta of the game?

Follow this link and read the steps which are provided. Cross your fingers and hope that you'll be chosen to partake in the adventure!

How do I download the client of the beta?

The client isnt' released yet, check fequently the official webpage of the game to be informed. You'll see a link for the client as soon as it is available to be downloaded. Don't forget to check your e-mails too!

When will the CB starts?

As you have maybe read in the announcements, the closed beta will start at this date: August 28th, 2008

Will there be a wipe of the characters after the closed beta?

For the moment, a wipe of the characters after the closed beta is not planned. However, things can change with time.

Will there be an open beta?

There will be an open beta yes, that is supposed to be launched in November.

What about the classes of the game?

At the release the players will be able to choose between 6 different classes. You can also combine two classes together. For example: Scout / Rogue. 36 class combinations are possible.

Here are the 6 different classes you can play:

- Warrior

- Scout (ranger)

- Rogue

- Mage

- Priest

- Knight

I have seen on the classe's page two places that are free, what does it mean?

It means that two new classes are going to come after the release. We don't know when. On what I have read so far, it seems that those two classes are going to be a Druid and a Tarot Dancer. No information about those two classes yet.

Will the players be able (for classes who need it) to support dual-wielding?

Even if we don't have all the information about all the classes, we can admit that the knight (even though it's considered a tank, and shield would be better), warrior, rogue and maybe scout (ranger) are going to be able to support dual-wielding.

The game is dual-classes, what is the difference if I chose Mage/Priest or Priest/Mage?

"When players reach level 10, they will be able to select a secondary class, which increases the possible class combinations up to 36 individual character types. Within the towns of the game world Taborea, players can switch between their primary and secondary class, which gives them interesting tactical choices about how to approach their next tasks. Consequently the primary and secondary class will level independently from each other. So the dual class system of Runes of Magic functions like two characters in one.

From then on, they can level up both independently. At any time, they can decide which to play as the primary, and switch. In the launch version, both can reach level 50. And while they progress, the game will also give them master and legendary or epic classes.

Turning to skills, every character has its own set that distinguishes between general ones like crafting or attack, and class-based primary and secondary possibilities. Characters can access all their main class skills of, but only the primary ones of their secondary class. Reaching a new level grants points that can be distributed to improve attributes; furthermore, new skills can be unlocked. There are also talent points can that used to upgrade individual skills and spells at any time. Players get these by completing quests or succeeding in combat. Crafting and weapon skills like one-handed swords or bows are leveled through use and application during play."

Chose then your two classes very thoroughly.

Is there a class that is overpowered? (typical question...)

I have read something interesting about the classes of the game, based on the experience of a previous Radiant Arcana player who was telling exactly which class was better than the other. Nevertheless I think it's not something to speak of, as we want variation in classes. Make a class combo that works for you!

Who is going to be the tanking class?

The Knight is the tank of RoM.

What about the warrior then?

The warrior is going to be the melee damage dealer for the most part.

Will there be pets for some classes or for everyone?

You'll be able to have a pet (now it seems that there are no differences between the pets, one for everyone, nothing special for rangers or anything) by collecting some special cards, which tell you some specifications about a creature, and then you'll be able to take it as a pet (sounds like Pokemon). This bit of information is still unclear, however.

Will there be the possibility to own houses in the game?

You'll be able to own a house and to customize it. Your guild will also be able to own a guild house. Every player will have a house that you'll be able to personalize with decorative furniture, treasure chests, mannequins, crafting tools, housekeepers, bonus experience, and more. Every other player will be able to visit your house, and it will encourage social interactions and there will be a popularity ranking system.

The fact of owning a house won't take place in the real world of the game, and you won't be able to see the houses of the different players. You'll have to talk to a NPC to be teleported in your house, same thing to go out of it. By the way, each new player will be able to own a house from the very beginning of the game.

-------------------------------------------------------------------

You can dl a video by maltaner 87 here about housing.

Will there be some special abilities like jobs?

Yes, like in other MMOs, you'll be able to choose various jobs. Some include gathering professions, where you probably gather raw materials, and others include manufacturing professions, where you create items.

Example:

*Gathering --> Mining, Herbalist, Lumberjacking...

*Production --> Alchemist, Blacksmith, Armouror, Botanist, Carpenter, Fisher Cook, Tailor...

*Dismantle

The crafting system allows the learning of all skills on the basic level. Restrictions are applied at higher skill levels.

Will there be some special collectable items?

Yes. You'll be able for example to collect a Rune atlas, a monster compendium that allows you to capture monsters that will be summonable. You'll also be able to collect titles that mark player achievements, that grant additional skills and attribute enhancements.

What about the combat-system in RoM?

We'll have a unique playstyle for each classe of the game. The gameplay will suit your classe and you'll be able to deal different types of damages, from chainable spell effects using elemental power to physical or piercing damages. You'll be able to loot bonus orbs that are randomly dropped by monsters. You'll gain some benefits, as effects during the combat.

You'll also earn some technique points that will be accumulated with each kill and lvl-up. You'll be able to use them to improve your character skills or spells.

What about the itemisation-system?

There will be hundreds of traits combined on item drop. We'll have a nine upgrade ranks system to level-up your equipment with different leveling paths. You'll also have some runes to customize your items. Of course, there will be dozens of class-specific armors.

How are we going to move in the game?

In Runes of Magic you'll be able to move your character with the WASD keys of the keyboard. You'll also be able to move using the point and click way. Notice too that all the keys will be configurable, that means that you'll be able to move as you want and pushing the keys you want.

As update, I can confirm that the player will be able to jump.

Will there be mounts in the game?

Yes, there will. But no information is yet known on how to get one and if we'll have to pay for them or not.

They'll likely be horses, but there will be some special mounts that only the bravest adventurers will be able to attain.

You can watch an image of a mount here, that looks like its wow-cousin.

Will there be some GMs in the game? How will they look?

Yes there will, and they will be in-game with us. But we don't know yet how they'll look.

Will RoM be another Asia-Grinder like?

Hopefully not. It seems that there are enough quests (about 600 at the release) to grind without monster-bashing sequences. For more information about the quest-system, read the PvE section.

What about the pve in RoM?

We don't know much yet about pve in RoM, but it will be for sure something like we already know in other mmo's.

Runes of Magic will feature raids and fights against boss opponents. Players will encounter mobs in instances and within the open world. Besides static dungeons, Runewaker will introduce so-called tile-based ones that change by re-generating themselves every once in a while.

We'll have diverse and unique zones, like the Wailing Mountains, Silverspring, Aslan for example. We also know some names of some dungeons as Forlor Monastery, Mystic Altar, Reliquary of Reflections or Kleeon's Temple.

What kind of questing will it be?

For the quest-system, we'll have mostly plot quests, that tell the tale of the world and the storyline. Plus, we'll have hundreds of side-quests to do.

How will the inventory work?

As in other MMOs, what you are going to loot will go to your inventory. The inventory contains 40 slots (You may be able to upgrade it later to make it contain more places). You can also find in your inventory some options to make it more readable. For example, you'll find a tip that tells your how many places left you have, a filtering option and more..

What about the loot-system in the game?

For the loots, it seems that there is an auto-loot system. When you loot a mob, it goes automatically in your bags and your inventory. (Thanks to barbariank for the info)

----------------------------------------------------------------------

You can watch a PvE video where you can see many things about PvE here (Proposed by
barbariank too)

You can dl and watch a video by maltaner87 about PvE groups in the game here.

What about the pvp in RoM?

Basically, Runes of Magic will have a common duel system and arena combat. Within the open game world, PVP is only open for players who actively “flag” themselves for it. If somebody wants to peacefully play PVE only, they can simply un-flag themselves. As a result, the PVP system of Runes of Magic won’t interfere with the game play experience of players focused on PVE. It’s only an additional feature so to speak. But there will be PVP only zones and when a player enters these, he will join PVP automatically. Within the arenas, players are able to take part in tournament style battles.

The Taiwanese developer Runewaker also plans to implement faction based PVP and guild wars. In addition to that, they are developing server vs. server combat as a very special feature. When this feature is ready, the whole community of one server will be able to fight the players of another in a massive server war. All results of PVP fights attribute to the players’ PVP scores, which derive from acquired wealth, title and class, and will decide his overall ranking in the game.

Update on the FAQ for Runes of Magic by Syndreamer

    [quote=syndreamer;285381]

    -------------------------------------------------------------------

OPEN BETA STARTS DEC. 9TH!! (probably)

    ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I can't speak several languages and the current FAQ seriously needs an update so people won't get confused anymore. First off, I want to thanks Krakantasse and Shonju for their efforts for making a FAQ for the entire community. Everything in this FAQ should be covered except the ones that break the Non Disclosure Agreement.

    What is an NDA?

NDA stands for Non-Disclosure Agreement. It's an agreement written by the publishers during Closed Beta testing phase to ensure that participants understand that whatever is done in the beta, Stays in the beta!! So therefore, this is enabled so that people won't leak out information to media sources or general forums. Failure to abide by these rules in place results in removal of material, temporary suspension, or in worst cases, a ban from ever entering the CB again or game. Spreading Closed Beta content to media sources for profit or to cause harm to the developers and publishers of the game can cause a major lawsuit to be brought down upon you. Here's a list of things that shouldn't post in the General forums or elsewhere:

Screenshots that come from the Beta Forums

    In-game content

Specific content that isn't listed on the main website

User posts that come from the Beta Forums

    Quest specifics

Where does the story take place?

"Taborea was once a book in which the creation of a simple world of flora and fauna was supposed to be recorded, but today it is full of myths and legends. The continents are covered by baffling and cryptic traces of time long gone. In the Age of discovery the people of Taborea are now on a quest to find out about their mystical past."

When will the game be released?

We don't have a fixed date regarding the release of the game, but what we know is that the developers want to release the game before Christmas. In regards to this, we know that the closed beta and the release will take place before Christmas. Also be aware of delays during this time.

What are the principal features of the game?

Free2play, no monthly fees, free download

Dual class system with switchable primary and secondary classes

    Enthralling background story

Over 600 quests and level comprehensive quest series at launch

    Instanced and persistent dungeons

    Individually developed skills and spells

    Armor sets with special bonuses

Dynamic item system: upgrades with hundreds of runes

Activatable PvP system (Player vs. Player duels)

Epic crafting system with the chance to improve existing items

Individual coloring of clothes and armor

Housing: personalization with individual furniture for players and guilds

    Special zones for guild houses

    Reputation system

Scalable user interface based on the user's flavor (development of own add-ons possible)

In-game map and radar system to find dealers, resources and quests easily

Auction house: auction and purchase items

    Teleporting possibilities per runes

    Different and unique mounts

Control via mouse (point & click) and keyboard (WASD or arrow keys) possible

How do Frogster and Runewaker work together?

Will there be some kind of item shop in the game?

As another f2p game, some sort of item shop is necessary to provide revenues and profits for the company.

Is there a lvl cap in the game?

From what is currently understood, the supposed level cap is 50.

Yes, there are a great deal of options to customize your character to make it appear different from the others.

You can watch a video about that here (in german but watching is enough ).

Will the game support custom Ui Mods? (Thanks to circaender for the information)

It seems that like many other MMOs, the players will be able to build customized UI Mods (personal add-ons) to modify their interface in various ways. The basic user interface will also be scalable.

How do I download the client of the beta?

You can follow several links that are posted in the forums, you can also follow the link that is in the e-mail you receive when you are chosen for the beta test.

If you don't wanna go the official way downloading with the yuleech downloader, you can visit this thread, telling how to do to download and install the game in a different way.

    http://forum.runesofmagic.com/showthread.php?t=3359

Thanks to nanoentity for this guide.

Where can I download the game?

Please refer to this thread by Dasadorah: http://forum.runesofmagic.com/showthread.php?t=11658

How do I register for the closed/open beta of the game?

    Here at this link: http://www.runesofmagic.com/en/user,register.html

    When will the OB starts?

As you have maybe read in the announcements, the open beta will probably start at this date: December 9th, 2008

Will there be a wipe of the characters after the closed beta?

This has changed, a wipe of the characters is now planned. We don't know yet when it will be placed. It is supposed to take place during the closed beta to test the changes and the updates, or just before the open beta.

What about the classes of the game?

At the release the players will be able to choose between 6 different classes. You can also combine two classes together. For example: Scout / Rogue. 36 class combinations are possible.

Here are the 6 different classes you can play:

What about the combat-system in RoM?

We'll have a unique play style for each class of the game. The gameplay will suit your class and you'll be able to deal different types of damages, from chain-able spell effects using elemental power to physical or piercing damages. You'll be able to loot bonus orbs that are randomly dropped by monsters. You'll gain some benefits, as effects during the combat.

You'll also earn some technique points that will be accumulated with each kill and level-up. You'll be able to use them to improve your character skills or spells.

    What about the itemization-system?

You can see an image of a mount here that looks like its wow-cousin.

Will there be some GMs in the game? How will they look?

Yes there will, and they will be in-game with us. But we don't know yet how they'll look. Some sources state they hold the key and meaning to life as we know it. I guess that means we all lose our minds at their stage. :)

The inventory contains 60 slots (You may be able to upgrade it later to make it contain more places).

What about the translation of the game?

The game will first be translated from Chinese to German, as it is done by Frogster, a German company. Then they'll translate it again from German to English.

Is the trailer that we can see in-game footage?

Yes, there has been no modifications of the videos to make them look better. All you can see is in-game graphics.

Is there any other source of information about the game?

Of course! There is the official website, that is the main source of all the content of the game.

Not really, it have also a lot of things from other games that we never seen in Wow. And look on the stuff in wow and compare it to Everquest, a lot of the same things in those games too.

Wow don't have multiclassing and playerhouses for a start. It is influenced a lot from wow, that is clear but also from EQ2 and Guildwars.

Still, it is the only F2P game I ever tried that is worth playing.

Check my sig.  Although the NDA does not allow ME to comment, I think a QFT comment is probably okay. :)
