Number of characters per server

TheTookeTheTooke Member Posts: 55

With the change in characters per server to two, how does this work for people who unlocked their second character before the NGE hit.  Can we make third character on one server, and if we decided into the tutorial that we didn't like the race, delete said character and re-create?

I think you still can create a 3rd character slot if you already has 2 characters pre-nge.  If you can, make sure you don't delete the character with [UNLOCKED] in the character screen as you won't be able to create a 3rd character again.

Thanks Obraik . . .Let me get this straight, as long as I don't delete the "unlocked" character then I can create / delete /  and re-create a third.  Not that I would do this alot, but sometimes I like to play with a race for a bit to decide if i want it or not.

Yep, as long as you don't delete the marked unlocked one, you'll be fine deleting the other characters.

Could all three characters be transfered to another (same) server should I decide that I might stay and want a server with a higher population?

    Good question.

Based upon how character transfers worked pre-NGE with the problem on Bria, I think the answer is "no".

You were not allowed to move FS toons from Bria to another server.

But, this is just speculation on my part.  I'd say that only CS would be able to tell you for sure if you can move an unlocked slot toon to another server.

No, you can't move the unlocked character.  If you want 3 characters, you'll need to stay on your current server, for now at least.

  • Sad that you need 2 toons now to even approach what you used to be able to do with one before the cursed NGE.

Before the CU seeing as when levels got added in you couldn't mix crafting with combat anymore as levels were based on your combat classes.

When the CU brought levels to the game, they were only for combat.   This meant that entertariners and artisans could not increase their level, because the levels were combat only.

Which meant that, because of the level system, entertainers and artisans who did not have any combat skills in their template could not increase their levels, and thus were perpetually in danger of being killed by rabid shaupauts (level 7 critters).  You could still mix and match combat and non-combat skills, but only the combat skills would count for your level.  So in theory you could be a master pistoleer/master dancer, but you could only get to level 54 and no higher.  To get to level 80 (the level cap prior to the NGE) you had to have two combat masteries in your template, or a whole bunch of Jedi skill boxes in the mix.

If you were a pure crafter on say Dantooine or Lok (or, hell, for that matter Tatooine!) and your house wasn't in a player city, you had problems.  I haven't even mentioned the slight problem of tending to harvesters...my level 17 MBE/MChef needed armed escorts when he went to Endor to plant harvesters for berries and fruits.

The NGE later corrected this problem by allowing entertainers and traders to gain combat levels as they advanced in their professions, so now a level 90 entertainer isn't TOTALLY useless and an aggro magnet in the DWB...likewise with a trader.  The traders are in fact issued a pretty nifty 900+ DPS pistol that is sufficient for dealing with most crittters below level 70.  It's still unwise for toons without combat special attacks to take on things at their own level, and elites/gold elites are right out.

Seriously wtf is wrong with everyone? That's what I said........... You had a max amount of SP so you couldn't mix both anymore and expect to be good in combat like you could in the good old pre cu days.

Prior to a correction to the system sometime in the first year of the NGE, entertainers and traders had no way to advance their combat level at all.  At least in the CU period you still had the skill/level hybrid system in which if you took on a combat prof (say brawler) along with an entertainer or crafter prof you could earn combat levels, but not from any advancement in entertainer or crafter, only from XP earned as a brawler.

It wasn't too unusual for mainly combat players to take on entertainer to self heal BF, or to be able to heal others in camp during a lull in the fighting.  This was very important on adventure worlds with very nasty disease-spewing creatures...a dancer saved my life on Endor once after I got hit by a very nasty mind disease by a mantigrue screecher, especially so at the time as going to a black zero on your mind bar created a nasty bug situation that could result in your toon becoming unrezzable/unclonable.

Even the slow heal of a novice entertainer was helpful. A master musician or dancer of course was much more efficient at mind and BF healing than a novice entertainer, but a slow heal is better than no heal.

In the current game you can have an ent who can both buff you and be very effective in combat (think TKA as far as ent combat goes). The only downside for a combat ent is they get no inate heal so they have to use base stims or be in a group with a medic. They get the best root in the game and hit very hard. Todays game has progressed to the point where there are many options open if you want to explore them.

As long as the core of the game is still the NGE there is no point. The NGE itself is fundamentally flawed and no matter what the current development team tries to do to tweak the system it still remains flawed. Tacking on a horrible beast master system or a grindtastic RE system doesn't make it any better and the only people I saw running around as combat entertainers were gold farmers because they could level up afk so easily.
