Hey!  just started playing this game recently have a lvl 16 dark elf mystic right now and having a good time

I was wondering if I'm better off questing or grinding to lvl?  also I'm pretty sure there are pets in this game.. was wondering if there are rideable mounts (if so what lvl?)

is there better gear from drops or crafting..or are they pretty much equal

any other information would greatly help

Quests give so little XP that you are much better off sticking to the grind. The only real exception to this is if/when there is a quest available for the mob(s) you happen to be grinding on anyways.

As for gear, you shouldn't have to craft anything until at least B-grade (lv52), realistically not until A-grade (lv61).

make sure the spot where your levelling has a quest... thats what i do when im at low level...

drop's and crafting are pretty much the same gear, it's just unlikey you get full drop's from mob's after a certian lvl, instead you mostly get part's from the mob's and material's so you can craft the gear.

the only mount's are Strider's to get one you need to get a lvl 35 Hatcling and they's 3 different kind's the

Twillight who lvl's the fastet, and eat's the least amount off food

Wind who lvl's at middle speed, and eat's middle amount's off food this is a warrior type hatcling with a stun skil attack, and some other skill

Star need's the most exp to lvl and also eat's the most this is a wizard type hatcling with a self heal, and m.atk skill...

you do a quest at lvl 35 to obtain a random hatcling who start's in lvl 35, you then have to lvl em to 55 and do a quest to turn em into a Strider. they all take a % off your exp, and if they within 6 lvl's off you they should take about 30%...

they's also rumors that in the next patch that you can ride the Great Wolf's, they take 40% off you exp however, but i do like they stat's even with the worse gear

Oh, my friend... you can't quest to lvl. Not even remotely possible. Quests don't give great xp if any and are there for either making money or doing the class change quests. There are a few that just "are" but again, the rewards aren't going to be amazing.

Others have mentioned the mounts but it takes a bit of work.

Drops? lol. Drops are rare. Well, not things like thread or silver and the obligatory adena drop. But it is not like other games where you will be getting drops left and right.

I I've gone months upon months without drops. Heck, I can name all of my major drops over the past (practically) 4 years:

    Samurai Longsword

Dark Crystal Boots (got this twice over my gameplay)

    Dark Crystal Gators

    Phoenix Ring

    That's it.

you will have to make money and then Craft or purchase your gear from crafters. Or, if you like crafting, dedicate yourself to it.

i knew this game would take much more effort and dedication then the other MMO's I've played (mainly WoW, EQ2, CoX, and played a bunch of others for a month or two) but it's been much more rewarding every lvl and it feels like my character is actually progressing in this game.  I think I'm going to make a melee class, thought I'd like playing a caster for a change but I definetly prefer sticking with melee..what would you suggest (mostly for PvP) a SK, Tyrant, or Glad?

edit: what's in most demand for clans right now?  I'm guessing a healer any class in specific?  I want to duo with my buddy who's going to try the game out soon and she's mainly the healer playing type

Either Tyrant or Glad from your list.

However, being a Glad  is not an auto win button. I saw a Paladin win in the Olympiad against a Glad last night.

What is wanted in clans? Not really healer as many box them. They are also hard to lvl because you need a group. Blade Dancer is always wanted. They do "ok" in pvp but they are a party buffer. Their buffs are very important. Also, Swordsinger as they are a bit more rare.

Glads and Tyrants are fast and can be monsters. Daggers can be extremely dangerous as well.

But as far as who rules pvp? Archers then probably mages (specifically Necros but I play a Stormscreamer (spellhowler/dark elf mage) and they do very well as long as we can maintain a higher cast speed with equipment and buffs.

i agree with Sovrath go Gladiator or Tyrant (Tyrant is more exespensive to lvl then Gladiator) don't pick the sk, but i haven't really bumped into people who box healer's so i guess it just depends on server or who your hanging out with, but it is hard to get group's as a healer tho...

btw healer's dont need a group to lvl if you get a great wolf you can solo like summoner's they just take 40% off your exp instead off 10%, so it is slow but it is duable to go nonstop hunting.

so if your friend want's a healer she can take one no matter witch class you get party's will probly be hard to get anyway

awesome, all the info is appreicated !

one more question i'm leaning more towards the tyrant but i'm wondering which class is more viable using 2handers?  not a big issue but i just prefer how 2handers look, most of the melee classes i see in screenshots are dual wielding =x

For 2 handers it is Destroyer (my sub is [now] destroyer - I went back and forth between glad and destroyer about 10 times) and Swordsingers.

Destroyer is a melee damage dealer and Swordsinger is the the elf version of the dark elf bladedancer (party buffer)

Destroyers are the only class with 2hand sword mastery. Although Swordsingers use them sometimes too.

Anymore, clans really only care about activity. If you're active, you can find a clan.

L2's real player population is kind of dwindling, so most clans have an open-recruitment policy. An exception to this would be the "top" clans which usually demand that you are a certain level to join. And of course reputation is always a factor.

Some classes are in higher demand than others, but don't settle for a class you don't want to play just because you think it will get you a better clan. Like I said, active players are in higher demand than anything else.

    That's a good point. I didn't realize SS's didn't get 2 handed masteries.

The swordsinger's blunt and sword mastery does work for two handed's but the destroyer get's both the blunt sword mastery and a two handed sword mastery passive's + skill's to use with it.

The gladiator also has some two handed sword skill's but it's just gimping yourself with two handed's as a gladiator...

i don't know about your server isurus but at least on Teon to join a pvp clan you likly need lvl 6x + to join

  • isurusisurus Member Posts: 396

Sorrowho is right, any sword/blunt mastery will work with 2handed masteries, which means SWS/BD/DA/Paladin/TK/SK/Glad? can all benefit from using a 2handed sword. But all of those classes are generally better off using either a sword & shield or duals. Swordsinger being the exception, as whether you choose a 1h or 2h sword on a SWS comes down to personal preference. Personally I prefer a 1h sword on SWS. Unfortunately Sword of Damascus recipes are so rare...

What I should have said is that Destroyers are the only class in the game that has a skill set focused on the use of 2handed swords (not including Kamael).

I play on Hindemith. I can see that clans on the high-pop servers (Bartz/Teon/Franz) would be more picky about recruiting. But on Hindemith, and I would guess the other low-pop servers as well, most clans are eager to recruit any active players they can.

A quick note on healers for your friend - Do NOT pick Shillien Elder. They are not really a healer anymore, have been nerfed a lot, are most boxed, etc. They have a few great buffs but everyone and their mother has a pocket SE they can use to get those buffs.

Pure-healer wise, you have two choices - Bishop or Elven Elder. Bishops are the best healer in the game, they have several different kinds of heals and the highest rez %. But that's basically all they do. Elven Elders are the 2nd best healers, with 3 heals and 2nd highest rez. They have some pretty good defensive buffs and get an awesome buff for nukers at level 78. They are also the best at managing their groups' mp (they can recharge mp and also have a buff that reduces mp usage). And they have Party Recall, which can instantly remove their entire group from dangerous situations.

Both Bishop and EE can nuke undead mobs to solo, but it's slower than real nukers.

But, neither of those classes are really going to be good to duo with a glad or tyrant because neither one has good offensive buffs. This game is all about buffs. The best class to duo w/ a glad or tyrant would be a Warcryer - a buffer who has heal-over-time. They have a good mix of prophet and SE buffs. Only problem is, they're orcs, and if she's anything like me, she might not want to play an ugly orc as her main. :p
