This game is a miserable failure...

Tabula Rasa looked interesting and had solid ratings, so I asked around for a trial key and got one, surprisingly.  A futuristic shooter MMO!  God was I tired of RPGs modeled after Lords of the Rings.  But this... wtf.  The graphics and FPS are horrible, even on a nice rig (I can run COD4 on very high settings without any issues).  The interface isn't user friendly.  Character movement transitions aren't smooth at all.  There are countless bugs.  The combat sucks, in fact it's the worst shooter I've ever experienced from a game that was released in this millennium.  The only credit I can give this game is props to the plot for not involving more elves and orcs.  This game as a whole might have been somewhat decent if it was released 7+ years ago.  I'd rather pay to play this: http://clanlord.com because at least I'd know it was good in its time.

well, i disagree with you. I am having good times with game, waiting more content (like any other mmorpg i have played since beginning) , and game, for me, is great. Dinamic, fun. I usually play in group with my mates, and we are having roleplayings, pve and pvp events all the weeks.

Nice graphics, nice quests -read the texts, guy- , simple pvp -fun, but it has to be completed, and it will- .

    For me, a great game.

    :)

This game has alot of potential , Graphics arent half bad (Better than WOW's Cartoon graphics) . Only if the makers would only fracken give users more content and patches worth a damn , people might stay playing it . I played it , made a clan , but , when you hit 30+ you get sooooo bored . Thats why I am not playing it , until , new content (and good content) comes through .

The combat sucks, in fact it's the worst shooter I've ever experienced from a game that was released in this millennium.

lol - thats because its not a first person shooter - it only looks like one.

So for you the game is a miserable failure - good thing you didnt waste your money then.

Yeah, it's shit. I wouldn't say it's a COMPLETE failure, as people are still playing it. But people will play anything, it seems.

I expected a more rewarding grind and a reason to play past level 30.

It was fun up until then, and then it got boring.

I quit when they updated the UI in a massive patch back in December, since it made any tools a pain to use. I didn't have any real reason to play at that time, so I guess that did it for me.

TR was a terrible game from the begining, anyone that makes a game and banks on having their name stamped on it in order to market and sell will fail.

TR did just that and failed, not to mention its horrible cookie-cut level grind fest to only end up looking just like everyone else reguardless of level.

meh, as SWG used to say .... move along move along nothing to see here....

"Fun" is a very abstract concept. Don't go pretend that you can claim the virtue of knowing what's fun or not. Simply because people don't like Tabula Rasa over simplified pile of rubbish, doesn't mean they don't understand the meaning of "fun". There are people outhere who requires some "quality and deep gaming experience" in order to be compelled by it and find it fun. Just  like there are people who simply can't stand junk food, and it's not because they don't know how to enjoy it, but mostly because their taste buds have evolve to a point where it's just disgusting. Apply the same logic for games, music and movies here and you'll wake up over an epiphany that will make it so you won't post any such non sense in the future.

    Can I have your accounts?

Sucks that you guys didn't enjoy the game. Maybe that is why they only offer a 3 day trial?

I'm having fun with TR, took me 2 weeks to get my first level 30 then another 4 days to get my clone to 30 so now I have a spy, sniper, grenadier and guardian to decide on which one I want to play more. This game is pretty young and content seems shallow but devs has said they have plans up their sleeves so we'll see.

The OP's graphics comparison isn't very good, most single player games will have significantly higher quality graphics (look at Crysis) than MMOs, but TR has impressively good graphics if you turn on dynamic lighting and shadows (though I keep shadows off). Most MMOs has lower graphics standards to keep lag to a minimum when dealing with client-server network communication.

The ones I see that don't like TR are the ones that thinks it's Counter-Strike and always wants to pvp, or ones that rushed to 50. General chat is of the fun parts of the game, and I like sci-fi since I've never been a fan of the fantasy genre.

This game is terrible, that I would agree with.  However you completely lost me with a reference to "paying to play" Darkfall, the biggest pile of vaporware S ever.  That game will, unfortunately, never see the light of day.

LOL, this game must be worse than I though, even the trolls are substandard.  That just kills it !!!. I can put up with  my dislikes in the game. But It's just to much when the trolls aren't even up to speed.

OP I think you need to play a bit of swg and head over to the big boy troll forums, then come back. I mean i like a good troll as much as anyone, but please, we have way to few trolls for an amateur to come over.

    hehehehehe.

I will throw in my 2 cents. I also do NOT like TR.

The problem is that it try to look like a FPS, but it is not (worse graphics, no scripted events, less interactive environment ...). So people will tend to compare it to FPS and come out disappointed.

It also lacking in customization and itemization. So it does not have the traditional MMO strength. This is a case of trying to be too many things and fails at all of them.

Miserable failure?  I don't really think so.  I for one am not a fan of this Tabula Rasa and believe that Richard Garriott could have and SHOULD have done something far better.  With that said it is a mediocre title, along with 99% of every mmo released since UO.

No its not an abstract concept.

    noun
    1. activities that are enjoyable or amusing

So if someone enjoys playing the game - then they are having fun. Whats abstract about that?

On the flip side - its entirely subjective and a personal opinion.

So as that poster said - they found the game fun. They didnt try to force what they enjoy on you - so really why do you care.

After almost a year playing T.R - I still find the game fun.

  • Crazy00EyesCrazy00Eyes Member Posts: 91

I'm curious, who the hell is Richard Garriott anyways?  Is this game based off a novel or something?

    Wow - where to start.

How about I provide a link and you can read http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Richard_Garriott

But in a nutshell - he was developing computer Role playing games before many people on these forums were born.

On the book question - no its an original I.P. During beta I suggested they write a book to complement the game as many other companies are now doing.

After trying the trial I was hugely dissapointed by this.  I had been looking forward to this game for a long time.

They really missed an opportunity to make a great sci-fi MMO.

    What this game needed was;

    a. Make the game a shooter.  Not a half dressed wannabe shooter with MMO controls. Definetly a case of glass half emtpy.  Either go shooter or MMO the mistake they made was leaving it stuck inbetween. BIG mistake.

    b. This game should of been PVE AND PVP. (i.e. planetside style RVR but within the context of the tabula setting, with both AI storyline missions/objectives and opportunites for PVP as a large portion of the gameplay.

Then this game would become what it should of been and is in fact crying out to be.

Miserable failure? No, Auto Assault was a miserable failure. MMO's that are shut down because a lack of revenue and interest are miserable failures.

Tabula Rasa is fun for a lot of people and it's doing fine so far. So I believe that because you classify it as a "miserable failure", doesn't necessarily place it in a category which games such as Horizons and Auto Assault belong.

The game is fun. Get to level 15 and into a class spec and you will see exactly what I mean.
