The game itself is modeled after the trilogy of BOOKS, not the trilogy of movies. A lot of what you will see will not look like what you have seen in the movies. There are four initial races including dwarves, elves, humans, and hobbits. The developers have released very few details about game specifics, so we can only speculate on combat, leveling, economy, and skill trees. Elves will however have a unique trading system instead of using money.

They have removed grinding and are implementing a new system of advancement that eliminates countless days of mob killing. Also, the developers have released information on many enemies, including spiders, wargs, trolls, goblins, men of angmar, bears, orcs, and uruk-hai. As the game furthers in development, more data will be released.

In the initial release, we will be able to play in the area West of the Misty Mountains (including Moria) to the Sea. This area is known as Eriador. It implied that Rhovanion (area east of Misty Mountains), Rohan, Gondor, Mordor, Forodwaith, Harad, Umbar, and Rhun will be released in later expansions. Harad, Umbar, and Rhun are areas that I am not sure if the dev's will include in the game or not.

You will be able to visit familiar places like Lothlorien, Rivendell, Mirkwood, the Shire, Bree, Lindon, the Grey Havens, Isengard, Weathertop, Tom Bombadil's house, Erebor, Moria, the Argonath, etc. in your adventures across the massive world of Middle-earth. This game will be enormous!

Turbine is releasing the classes slowly.  The classes listed are not the only ones that will be available, just the ones they have told us about so far.
