Which RPG game has the hardest raid bosses?
Well it doesn't have to be MMO, but I bet MMO bosses are harder due to the fact people can find more partners.
My bet is on Lineage 2.
The regular bosses in Lineage 2 require no less than 20 WELL organized specific classes. If you don't even have the required classes or not doing it right, even 50 players might not be able to do it. I have seen countless times unorganized raid, where 50+ people drop like flies.
And the top bosses of the land - the dragons, even 200+ players couldn't beat it.
From what I know, so far this fire dragon was only beaten once on 1 one of the 9 servers by an army of 200 players.
All other attempt failed.
There used to be another top boss, an earth dragon. It was finally beaten after over 1 year of the game was released in North America. Now this fire dragon just made the earth dragon looks like a push over.

Everquest has a lot of raid mobs. A lot of them require you to obtain keys to just enter the zone they are in. This makes just getting to the boss take a lot of time. I would have to list the Everquest bosses to be the toughest because of this. There are a lot of restrictions and difficulties just getting to the boss. Not just number or level of mobs in the way, but also time restraints on when the things actually spawn so that you can even make progress in the first place. Everquest has a lot of bosses, and my raid experience is too limited for me to post which is the toughest out there for this game.
I liked RvR in DAOC also. The toughest raid boss will have to be 100+ of other players of an enemy realm. Ok, maybe it's like 20-50 nowadays, but I was part of some massive Relic Raids in that game. Since L2 is a PvP game, I can now see why taking that Dragon on may be more of a challenge. Anyone can just turn around and attack someone standing next to him I suppose.
same thing in L2. You need to finish a bunch of quests before be able to see the boss...well those top ones.
Not the hardest boss but fairly hard, this is GW so it is farming, not raiding. This isn't my pic but it looks like the person playing might not be using the best computer, graphics look poor compared to most other screens.
It is now owned by WoW!
There is one dragon, which makes the dragon in that L2 screenshot look like a little baby.... there is one dragon in WoW that is very, very, easy to get to. But so far no one (as far as I presently know) has every beaten it. Not a single uber guild, with uber items, with the most dedicated players, has ever beaten it. Not even close.
It's area is in the part of the map called "Duskwood", It resides dead center, surrounded by a ring of mountains. There is a semi-hidden path leading north, from the main road through Duskwood (it runs east to west), which zig zags a bit up the mountains to a narrow mountain pass/entrance.
The dragon is giant. Roughly the size of maybe 4 buildings. It guards a giant portal. It walks back and forth in a circle, in front of the portal. Rumor has it that it has over 400,000 health. (The most uber warrior in WoW has roughly 6,000 health.) That it hits for 3k to 6k each strike. I've talked to friends of friends who attacked it to see what would happen. They dropped dead in 1-2 hits. Cost them over 80 gold in armor repairs. Even with a group of priests trying to heal, it's near impossible - one dies before the priest can even get the heal spell off.
No one has any idea what it drops, or where the portal it guards.. leads to.
Very likely 500+ players would be needed to drop it. And it would still be almost too hard. Have 100 warriors charge it and hope to get off 1-2 hits before they die. Have 5 priests non-stop healing each warrior. Have 300 players doing range attacks? 1,000+ players would be more likely needed to drop it.
Any level 15 player can survive the journey on the road to get there just to lay eyes on it. I've looked at it 2 times. Then quickly left. I don't need to pay for unnecessary armor repairs lol!
But I have to agree that although I am done with WoW and hate it, the raid bosses were getting pretty good. MC and BWL are pretty much your standard 'tank and spank' bosses (which I find as rediculously out of date nowadays). AQ and Naxx however started a nice trend of getting away from strictly tank and spank and into something more tactical. Twin Emps, Ouro, and C'Thun...I mean, these are freaking beasts and an amazing challenge.
Ysondre? This Ysondre? That's supposed to "make the dragon in that L2 screenshot look like a little baby...."?
http://youtube.com/watch?v=MFJsnJjeVXA&search=valakas [Obviously a private server].
Skip about halfway through, when he finally zooms out and you can see how big he is...
And Valakas is actually smaller than Antharas is. [A "less cheating", yet still private server].
L2 wins this competition.

lol you are right. The link in your post must be from private server. No way in the hell anyone can solo even the most common raid bosses on offical servers. Fire dragon can aoe kill a bunch of people with 1 hit.
Obivously you didn't notice the true size of that dragon on my screenshots lol.
Well don't compare the players really close to you while the dragon is far away. You should compare the players at the same distance with the dragon. If you look harder, you will notice that fire dragon's mouth is bigger enough to swallow 5 players at once.
As for the hardness. That fire dragon has a few million HP. And with really fast regeneration speed. While only nukers can hit them for a few hundreds damage per hit. Other players won't do 1/5 of nukers' damage.
Of course it require certain ways to beat the raid bosses in L2. Basic idea is, it require heavy armor knights hold aggressive, while the nukers do the damage. Because nukers are such paper cannon, if nobody hold aggressive for them they die in 1 sec. Then again when against such top boss, even heavy armor knights with the best shield will die in 1~2 hits.
No way to hold aggressive when deal with the dragons. They will 1 hit you anyway. Or 1 hit you and 30 others at once lol...
200+ players dont make a raid dynamic as they are usual just a tank goes in and grabs the mob and everyone dps it down and healers keep the tanks up. Sure the 200+ player dragon will be hard because its hard controlling 200 people to do their job.
A boss in Naxxaramus in wow Thaddius (http://www.wowwiki.com/Thaddius) is an awesome fight. This boss is a frankstein like character. In phase 2 of his encounter he charges random people with a certain charge of electricty. Now if a polarized players stays near negative players then everyone wipes in that area. Also he charges random people after his initial charge with the opposite charge, so that person has to run away so he dosent cause the other group of people to "blow up". I dumbed this fight down a whole lot but once u get in it, its really a awesome encounter.
Also i just watched a video of Antharas the big dragon downed by 600+ players at http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=4484033486531026482&q=Lineage+2
And it looks like just one big zergfest, and i do hope that it didnt kill the tanks then go after everyone while people rezz up and dps it down. Also the fight took 4 Hours to complete, wow.
raids are lame....
and so is DAOC..
u r so noob 400k health is nothing thunderaan has that much and i hav 10 maned it
rag has got about 800k + he has add that come
LRN2PLAY WOW noob
molten core - rag 40man
blackwing lair - nef 40 man tho alot harder
AQ40 - twin emps alot of guilds still aint downed him
naxx - 40man no one has cleard it yet and its been out for a good month
I looked at that screenshot that is from WoW. I was looking at the map locater in the top right corner, too hard to tell if they are in the area I am talking about. And I can't read French, so I can't even tell where they are at in the gameworld. Right now the WoW servers are all down for routine Tuesday maintance. Later on I will go there and see if I can grab a few screenshots then get out of there.
I do thank you for posting that link showing L2 in action. After watching that video I WILL agree with you that is no baby dragon heh. I will have to say that now, L2 is easily equal to WoW when it comes to top bosses. BUT.... there are 2 things...
1. You keep mentioning private servers. What is the difference between a private L2 server, and a regular, public L2 server?
2. Something someone else brought up. I get the gist being:
An uber monster doesn't necessarily mean it must have 1,000 or 500 or 200 players to bring it down. For example in WoW a regular instance is limited to 5 players maximum. If the boss gives those 5 players an insane run for their money, some would say it is the same as a boss giving 500 players an insane run for their money.
Like the 2 last bosses in Deadmines (DM) dungeon in WoW. 1 of them automatically stuns the entire group, while he takes his time to go back to his chest to get a new and different set of weapons. His DPS (damage per second) obviously changes. Then he comes back, and HE chooses who he will start attacking. And there is NOTHING the group can do about it, because everyone is stunned. (Can't move, can't run, can't cast, can't swing, litterally can't do a single thing except watch your screen and hope.) The stun does eventually wear off.
The very last DM boss has a surprise of his own. He is on the top deck of a giant ship. He starts out with 2 bodyguards. When he is near death, he calls more bodyguards who come out of nowhere. (There is no way to find them beforehand, no way to see where they are ahead of time.) The group has to instantly decide what to do, how to deal with it. If 1 member is not paying attention, everyone gets wiped.
An even better example is one boss in AO. In a dungeon called "Temple of the 3 Winds". The dungeon has a level cap, which means the players who can go inside are FORCED to rely on their own steam. (Unlike all other mmorpgs in which uber level players can fight lower level bosses, and of course the higher lvl bosses.)
It's roughly a mid-level dungeon. The cap cuts off players who are just below level 100. The hardest boss will levitate whoever is tanking him, lift them off the ground (just like what the Emperor did to Obi-Wan in Star Wars - Revenge of the Sith). The tank is suddently useless, unable to move anywhere, while the boss keeps his distance from the tank. And get this! He doesn't stop doing the levitation! So the "Tank, healer, long range dmg dealer" plan suddently is rendered useless!
A boss in Naxxaramus in wow Thaddius (http://www.wowwiki.com/Thaddius) is an awesome fight. This boss is a frankstein like character. I haven't made it up to that boss in WoW yet, but I must say that sounds like insanity! Players have 5 MINUTES to kill him, or else he automatically goes nuts and kills ... everyone??!!
In addition the players have to deal with the whole positive charge, negative charge thing. AND... deal with him then randomly changing player's charges. AND ... deal with not running into each other while moving away from other players. 2,000 damage to your own group if you go near your own group and they have different charges?!? OUCH!
