The Official "We're Angry at SOE" thread

StraddenStradden Managing EditorMember CommonPosts: 6,696

Hi Guys,

It seems as though there has been quite a bit of SOE hate recently, and it has gotten to the point where it is taking over the forums for SOE games. As a result, I am creating this sticky where people can vent their frustrations on this subject.

Please do not continue to hijack other threads with this issue. Also, remember to have a look at our Rules of Conduct regarding what is ok to say and what is not.

I was thinking yesterday that it would be nice to have a place to send
those who are considering playing an SOE game so that they can inform
themselves on what they are getting into.

So I started a blog site called The Informed Gamer
and I want to post a definitive record of what the users of SOE and SWG
in particular have endured, and I am not only talking about gameplay
but also customer service and technical support issues as well.

    I
don't like writing pure opinion, I would like to back it up with as
much evidence as possible.  Any articles or even customer service
tickets, stories, and what not would be appreciated, it can be posted
here, pm'd, or later when I register an email address for this purpose
    I will include it here.

Also if anyone of you would like to contribute to the project please let me know.

I think they made a sticky for the SoE hater on all their games so its fitting EQ2 shoulde have one too.

But i love this forum.Since EQ2 is really one of the games SoE has handled well its so easy to finish off SoE haters here thus there are only a few who even dare try and they get blasted.

    But SWG is another matter

I enjoyed SWG when it first came out for about 2 months.  The quests were horrid, and the while the harvesting and crafting system was AWESOME, the final result of crafting was not.   Right when I thought about giving SWG a second try I started to hear how screwed up the game was.

I was REALLY pissed when EQ2 was first released.  What the hell was that?  Only able to sell if your on-line?  Since then the game has improved incredibly.

So I'm only a little angry at SOE.  SWG wasn't all that great to begin with so I cancelled, and EQ2 is a pretty good game.

I can't wait to see all the crying/trolling etc. that's going to hit the fan when Vanguard comes out.  I'm not going to touch that game untill it's been out for 6-8 months (but that probably goes for any game).  I can GUARANTEE that the game will be released in the same fashion and quality as EQ2 was.  Do you think your going to have all the 3rd generation functionality promised to be in the game at launch?  Waiting even a month to realease a game for a few in game issues costs hundreds of thousands of dollars.  This one's being released with problems, just in time to ruin your Christmas

I'll let all you fanbois beta test the retail version of game for me.

All that said, I am still looking foward to playing Vanguard.

Another SOE hater here. My experience is mainly with Everquest2.

    Things I hate:

Tiny unfinished expansions I pay full price for.

Renaming old zones and calling them new ones.

      Level 10 Blobs that you'll see again at level 40, 50, 60 and 70.

Laggy raid zones. (So much for instancing!)

Poor itemization, yup, it doesn't matter if you raid, the items all stink. (SEE: Deathtoll)

Raiding based on "required classes" not skill or strategy.

PvP completely unbalanced, some classes are way better than others.

Chinese themed expansion packs -- where's the fantasy!

Constant class nerfs, who knows what your class will be tomorrow!

      Tradeskills, why bother? They're pointless.

Poor communication from SOE on EVERYTHING.

I have to agree with you on this one partially, the art in this really is not that good when it comes to items like weapons and armor. Everything looks so drab and blobby

Yup, class balancing is a b**ch in all games. DAoC and almost all other PvP have been battling this from the start.

Correct me if I am wrong but Chinese "fantasy" is just as fantasy as european? I guess if you are from China you might not to excited about that.

SOE have had some great game ideas thrown at them. But they always seem to **** up. SOE need to stop chasing the quick buck and learn this is a long term business. Treat your community right and they will ensure you $$$ to come.

Unfortunately SOE will never run out of money so it lies on management or new management to understand this simple fact, pick up the pieces and try to make things right.

They can start by fixing the goddamn bugs in these shitty games they keep making.

you want to share your stories with me for the article but don't want
to post it here please feel free to send your testimonial to [email protected]

I agree it's no easy task.
But to design your game around PvE then as an afterthought a year later put in a half hearted attempt at PvP to earn a quick buck doesn't give it justice.

I wouldn't want a European expansion either.  I believe true fantasy must be rooted in fiction.

With the new "revamped" ez-craft system tradeskillers pump out product faster than it sells.  Most jewelry, armor, tailoring, and carpentry tradeskillers aren't even used because of dropped items being so much better.

I could name a few.  But I don't want this to turn into a [this game] vs SOE thread.  I'd perfer to focus on the points in EQ2 I dislike in hopes they one day improve.

Another thing I would like to include in my, "gripe list".

Poor NETCODE!  I'm not sure the exact terminonogy, so I use the one I remember from my FPS days.

I thought instancing was SUPPOSE to limit lag.  Not in Everquest 2, mob scripts, or more then one guild doing the same instance  will make some encounters completely unplayable.

Some other MMOs are supporting 40-50 or more players in a raid, EQ2's instancing has trouble supporting 2 24 man guilds running seperate zones at the same time!

For those people who are raiding T7 here's an example. The final guy in Lyceum sometimes broadcasts messages 4-5 minutes behind when he should or try running Vyemm with 2 or more raids on your server doing the same zone.  (Also see; Tarinax in Deathtoll)

I was a player of SWG, and SOE really ruined the game i loved, but i have to say that now with EQ2 im quite satisfied.

Sure there is some people who still rather the poligonal/childish graphics and boring content of WoW against the amazing looking shiny armours and really extensive list of thing to do of EQ2, and I respect that, but come on, a post of "we're angry at SOE" in the EQ2 forums? I really think this is way out of character here, should be in other forum

  • LenvalLenval Member UncommonPosts: 1

I've played a slew of mmorpg's and I've found SOE's customer service more than adequate compared to others.

In addition, I have felt more immersion in both EQ's than other games.

All of the reasons listed to hate SOE are customer opinions, just like my opinion of liking SOE.   So this thread does have a valid reason to exist.

  • generis2generis2 Member Posts: 16

EQ2 was fun for me for the first 15 months or so.  But the problem was that in order for them to chase WoW and that monster of a market-share machine, they were constantly changing things.  I do not mean just features but actual game mechanics (zone revamp, experience revamp, combat revamp, death penalty revamp, class revamp, TS revamp, travel revamp ... yadda yadda) you name it, they revamped it!  For good or bad these changes are, it just became a toll after a while to have to adjust and that's what killed the fun for me.

Oh yeah, the biggest beef I had with EQ2 is the daily server reset (the down time is right smack in the center of Asian peak hours).

These are actually all semi-small issues that added up to be a big problem over time that caused people like me to quit and also the cause of the dissapointment in SOE.

Never-the-less, I'll will be back for more of SOE with Vanguard!

  • NihilisNihilis Member Posts: 119
I too have a large problem with $OE due to many reasons previously mentioned.  I got EQ2 when it came out and the game was horrid, it wasn't even finished.  $OE rushed it out the door to compete with WoW and ended up losing at least half of it's subscriptions within 2 months.  Now that $OE has finished the retail version of EQ2 it's pretty fun and I enjoy it as it's currently the MMO I play probably until LOTR comes out and I'll play that until WAR is released.

I was excited about Vanguard as well but when I heard of $OE's involvement I was rather upset.  As a previous poster stated you know that $OE will pull the same crap they have with all their other games.  They're going to ship Vanguard unfinished and finish it 6 months later with the money you paid them FOR the retail version to already be completed.  As stated in a link posted it's like paying the downpayment on your car and paying each month while your car is shipped in pieces to you each month.

I'll look into Vanguard a year from now when it's actually finished, if it wasn't for $OE I'd pick it up when it shipped instead of LOTR.

"Time.." I chuckled "I hold no secret to time, though it's mystery puzzles me. Deny it's existence and lie to myself not with hopes of a quickened pace."

This is what you don't understand.  I'm guessing because you don't play or don't play a lot. So I'll attempt to explain this to you.

Brigands, Furys are unbalanced in PvP. Not many will argue, although I'm sure the degree can be argued.

So what do they do.. completely rewrite the way stuns work.  Balancing is good, when you have some kind of clue where balance is needed.  Throwing darts at a dart board and saying.. "X-class" is next to get nerfed is not the way to make your customers happy.

What is it, two years later? And they COMPLETELY change the way a key mechanic (stuns) work? Amazing. Balancing is one thing, but un-needed and un-called for nerfs to classes who aren't overpowered while other classes slip by is fustrating and counter productive.

I guess next time I have to write full paragraphs for each reason.

I am not an SOE hater.  While I definatly do not agree with their every move,  I can understand most of it.  Except of course for SWG,  but it has always been my opinion that that mess was more due to Lucasarts than SOE.  SOE built a nice niche game on a very limited budget, and Lucasarts expects to get major numbers of subscribers.   After the first few months when people actually saw the game subscriptions started dwindling and everyone has been in a panic since.

As for their other games, some changes I have loved, others I have hated, but you can usually see the rational behind them, even if you don't agree with the solution.

  • ezzekielezzekiel Member Posts: 1

I love the game and fully support SoE.

Most of the issues some of the cry babies in this thread pointed out exist in every single game out there, and will continue to take place whether you like it or not.

  • ginfress01ginfress01 Member Posts: 203

Not really hating SoE but after being banned from their forums a few months back after pointing out that certain high post count posters also were a moderator and therefor closing down any thread that was a disagreement with those high postcount posters (dont we all love kendricke) i just had enough.

EQ2 was fun, now its just one big instanced world where everybody can play safe. High level raids are to few. Itemazation is very bad and so on and so on. They might make money with there games but the day SoE gets struck by lightning i will hold a big party they are a disgrace to the gaming world.

Why is this topic in the EQ2 section????

This is a place for LIKEMINDED people that PLAY EQ2 to gather and talk etc.

It's like having a PETA office inside the Mac Donalds building...

Personaly I liked it better when people created own topics if there were having problems with SOE. Why they even bother to instead of doing it on the official forums is beyond me...

  • zandwarfzandwarf Member Posts: 114
the official forums of EQ2 are such garbabge, that alot of mmo players come here to get away from all the bs and what not, and use these forums for info and such.  If EVERYONE is such big SOE haters, why not post it somewhere they might auctualy see it..."as if they read their player feedback on their forums anyway"...but, this is not really the place for a SOE topic...its  EQ2 forum.

Im not always happy with what SOE dose to their games, and how they condone things yet never do anything about it..."such as the plat farmers"...but i do not think this is the place for it to be brought up.  And if your really not that happy with SOE, STOP PLAYING THEIR GAMES!  I bet over half the people that have posted here and /spamed SOE still plays one of their games...or still pay for their subscription so they dont lose their lvl 70 toon they "worked so hard on" yet refuse to play because they are unhappy with a nerf!
