Dark Solstice has updated their news site and answered a number of questions, in a number of ways. First, the question as to the cost of Dark Solstice has been solved. This unique 2.5D MMO will cost $7.95 a month, or $80 per year. You may ask if the game will be worth the price? Only time will tell, but a lucky few will find out sooner than others as Dark Solstice talks about Their much-anticipated Beta 1 Phase.
I know that many are eagerly anticipating the start of Beta Phase 1. So are we. As soon as there is a date we are confident of meeting, we will release the date. The good news is that we are making great progress and we see no reason that Beta will be delayed beyond 4Q05.
We are trying to include most of the things that will be present when the game goes live and for that reason, we cannot make it happen any sooner. Some time next week, we will show you the results of our User Interface efforts. We hope you will like it.
While we look forward to that UI preview, we can hold ourselves over with some new lore. This snippet from the game's history is entertianing, if a bit short.
As we told you, the Forbidden Forest is a foreboding place of mystery and danger. One of the Staff found an ancient scroll that may provide some clues as to why it changed from a happy haven to the evil place it has become.
From the Scroll
"It was during the time when the beasts roamed the world that the Gods intervened. In one sweeping move, they took the hearts from the beasts and replaced them with the veins of plants. So, most of these unleashed beasts were suddenly transformed into life of an entirely different kind.
In their haste to act, the Gods mistakenly cast their will upon unsuspecting mortals that were without shelter from the Dark Solstice. These poor souls were transformed into lower life forms, Thorn bushes, plants, and yes even trees. To this day they inhabit the darkest part of the forest waiting to wreak their vengeance on any that intrude into their domain.
So sayeth Gwyn, she that writes these words."
There were some words scribbled along the edge but time has hidden their meaning. Perhaps another Scroll will complete the tale.
