You are from some country where they still burning witches at stakes?
Rofl, there is no court which would send you to jail for plain DDoS :D
I live in a country that has laws against cyber criminals.
    Feels rather nice.

You on the other hand have shown a remarkable amount of ignorance by putting words in my mouth like so many others here.

Lol. You need to lighten up. You don't have any personal stake in this issue so why are so invested in something so juvenile.

Are you the healer that got DDOS'ed out of a world first?

I don't imagine there are many judges in the world that would be able to comprehend wtf it means to lose "A world first in World of Warcraft". I play my fair share of video games, and I can barely understand that level of commitment and sheer stupidity. Does it have real world value? No. Not unless you are intending to violate Blizzards Terms of Service. So no it does not.

In other words, this guy temporarily interrupted someones internet service. Is it a crime? maybe. Depends on the state I imagine. Is it enough to warrant anything more than a slap on the wrist or at most a fine? No.. its not..

A suitable punishment should be served sure. But who is gonna decide on that punishment? Someone who can't understand what has been taken. Which is why it is unlikely anything will come of this. Unless Blizzard dishes out their own form of justice.

You should really stop making comparisons - they are always off.

A kid being late to the bus is just a slight mishap because something came up.
Hacking another person is a crime.

    ddos is not hacking

sending a bunch of traffic to home router public ip is what he did

    zero hacking

so he should go to prison for this?

    really?
You are being too specific. This falls under "you know what he means".

So sure, you are very correct, he didn't "hack" the person. He did do things to obstruct the other person.

So should it be against the law for one person to obstruct and limit another person? I'm going to say yes.

It should be against the law, lots of things that should be but arent

Again - what court will hear this case?

What if this guy is some 14 year old in a country like China that would never even consider this.

Heck most courts wouldnt waste their time on this.

But yes I agree with that ddosing anyone is a big NO.

just nothing will be done about it
I do agree no court will hear it. Should be against the law though.
Breaking and entering isn't the same crime as say parking a vehicle blocking a driveway, analogous here but not exactly so. It's the kind of thing that might warrant a ticket like a traffic violation, but not arrest and jail. We don't have a good framework in our society for dealing with this.

Blizzard should also inactivate his account and API or public access to it.
I sort of look at it as two things.

First is he took measures to obstruct someone, interfere with someone. several people I suppose. So right there one would say that's an issue.

But then the "video game" part comes up and it's a hard pill to swallow.

"What, he kept you from playing a video game"? That's the part that I think any court would roll their eyes. So yeah, maybe just a fine.

So no prison, but a good caning is in order I think. The repeated info to his ass will make him think twice about doing it again.

Ok, I don't know exactly what was done here with the ddos attacks. Someone said it was to shutdown access from the attacked routers? Is that correct? Are we talking say cable router/modems as well? Because if that were the case, there may be some form of public endangerment if the attacked individuals have voip phone service through those same routers/modems. And I do believe there is some Federal statues that address the interference with public communication via phone.

Let's party like it is 1863!

I had to laugh because I'm a bit tired (at work waiting for painters to finish) and I read your sentence as ...

"... a good caring is in order ..."

All I could think of was "is he suggesting a long hug?"

It's rumoured that some will even PAY to win...

But that can't be true, of course, because we all know that you cannot "win" in an MMO... ;)

people be paying to win without realizing they're paying to lose :P

Look I was in a top raiding guild in a couple games, I was MT. We posted links all the time, it was common practice really. Those saying don't open links obviously haven't raided much or been in a guild. Now if he recently joined I can see not opening them or if he has a history of being an idiot but normally you share info.

This guy takes the cake for being a dick, if the story is true.

I see Adios has left the guild for another (or got Kicked out) ... Just more people he can screw over. I think someone should let Power Converters know what this player will do to other guild members.

True, but if they cheat to win they didn't actually win ... they cheated.

I'd agree, but I also feel that way about buying your win which others feel fine about.  To some people the end result DOES justify the means.

If people weren't constantly incorrectly applying the "pay to win" label to purchases that have absolutely nothing to do with winning anything, but instead provide convenience, perhaps there would be more general agreement on the issue.

But they do, so there won't.
