Remember Dragon's Lair? How about a similar hardcore game?

I just came across this movie on youtube:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CnPOQr1pxY8

It's about the creator of Dragon's Lair, then "the real" creator of dragon's lair and his idea of a sort of virtual world with a laser disc "console".

The game he created? Thayer's quest. Which in some ways is stupidly hardcore. But in a simple stupid way.

It's a very interesting watch. He didn't really create a virtual world but I think his heart was in the right place. Oh, and there's a bit on Stonehenge at the start which sort of relates to the video.

I only ever got to play it once as it had too long a line.

So "thanks Tiller" I'll look into those.

Seriously watch this it's really interesting. Especially because it's more about the successor to Dragon's Lair that most probably never heard of. And it's sequel. funny enough.

Oh, and the Stonehenge bit at the beginning is pertinent.

Dragon's Lair was not a game.  It was a story wrapped around the mechanics of pure physical twitch reaction.  If you failed to react at exactly the right time in exactly the right manner three separate times then you had to start over.  And you paid 50 cents per three failures.

It was released at the time when you could see a full movie on release night for $4.00.

Space Ace, Cliff Hanger and Dragon's Lair. I must have spent a small fortune on those games. I only got to play Thayer's Quest a few times as the keypad on the game cabinet couldn't stand up to the abuse and soon quit working.
