Today is N7 Day, the annual celebration of the Mass Effect series. In honor of the 10th anniversary, BioWare has released a moving tribute to the game with interviews with key members of the development team and more. It's an emotional roller coaster, however, given the fact that the series is on an indefinite hiatus after a less-than-stellar reception of Mass Effect: Andromeda.

Bioware was so much better when they focused on story & gameplay and suffered decline only when they blatantly began incorporating political agenda into this once great series. I miss the old Bioware for sure. And I try to be hopeful that they will have learned a lesson for the benefit of future installments.

The second one, we had hope at that stage and some progress. Everything was improving and the story line was fantastic. We then got part three and the utter collapse of the original promises for how the series would end. Then we got Andromeda and it shouldn't of ever come out for the unfinished backwards step that it was.

ME has become a cautionary tale on how easily it is to kill a strong IP.

Perhaps the big game studios will focus more from now on on merit rather than "diversity".

    STOP STOP STOP!

FFS can't we have ONE thread celebrating a brilliant series without the political garbage?

The discussion is supposed to be about your favorite moments in game, not a condemnation of what YOU perceive as the failings of the final game. Rather than criticising, how about you tell us all about the parts you DID enjoy instead of only focusing on those you didn't.

    ON TOPIC: My epic moment:

    Agree.
Celebreting 10 years of ME looks like one last karaoke on Titanic right now.

Whenever I see the usual suspects posting the same old shit in every ME article I can't help but think that Bioware must have done something right if it gets their goat to this extent.

Favorite moment? The final confrontation with the Illusive man in ME3.

Ah, you've been with the professors and they've all liked your looks
With great lawyers you have discussed lepers and crooks
You've been through all of F. Scott Fitzgerald's books
    You're very well-read, it's well-known
But something is happening here and you don't know what it is
    Do you, Mr. Jones?

My favorite episode was the final party in ME3. I really enjoyed that last office get together and that mission with all the joking around in it. For me the office party is the perfect ending. I really enjoyed the series over the years.

I would love it if Bioware releases a Mass Effect Collection that includes HD(60fps) version of the trilogy + Andromeda. I have the trilogy on PS3. I still haven't purchased Andromeda, but i played the free 3-4? hour long trial and i liked it despite its flaws.

I would love to that a physical collection of ME on PS4. That would be a nice 10th anniversary celebration.

If it was just ME that perceived them, it wouldn't be a problem really. After all, I'm just another internet nobody.

While I understand that the whole thing should have been a celebration of the series, it ended up becoming a eulogy.

Btw, do we pretend ME:Andromeda doesn't exist, or we try to find some good moments in that game? For ME:A I'd say that mechanically it played better than the previous games (combat, movement, vehicles). However, it was tied to a weak story and a weak delivery method (manequine looking actors, known problems etc.).

@Iselin: Bioware certainly did something right by detaching themselves from the people that killed the series.

It all started with Dragon Age 2, before that farse of a game came, Bioware did fantastic games. The year before DA2, came ME2 and for me that was the last great game they made, DA2 kinda marked the ending of a great studio. I can celebrate Mass Effect 1 and 2 :D

I still refuse to call this MASS Effect, so I always leave out the "M." Its one of the games that converted me to pc gaming so happy b-day AE!

Other than manveer I don't think they really had much political stuff.

Apparently you didn't read the article. The article itself is associated with MEA only because there's no ME3 or general ME games on our games list. HOWEVER, the article is about N7 Day, the day to celebrate / discuss the entire series. Since MEA is so odious to you, don't talk about it. That's spiffy. But you obviously like something in the original trilogy. Tell us about that without the hyperbole around the stuff you didn't care for.

My comment was more about how friends and myself wouldn't call it MASS effect because of the romancing angles, so we'd call it Ass effect instead. It wasn't really anything negative about the series.

Mistakes were made, RIP ME. I'll probably pick up this new failed attempt of a game years later when it's 90% off, that's about it.

Hard to believe it's been ten years. I think Destiny 2 is about as close as we'll get to an ME MMO.  I've heard they are working on releasing a remastered version of the series.

The original Mass Effect is my personal favorite single-player, SciFi RPG.  I love that game.  Great gameplay, great story, interesting villains ... that game has it all.

I enjoyed it because it was a proper scifi RPG instead of being just another fantasy RPG. The universe felt interesting with species having conflicts where it was hard to find out which species were right and which one was wrong.

My favorite moment was meeting wrex in me3, especially since I almost got him killed in the first game. Worst was getting tali'zorah killed in me2, even more annoying since I never made a manual save throughout the game series so couldn't recover her.

I can't comment on ME:A since I never felt like playing the game so its more like five years of mass effect for me.

I must admit, whenever I get a new laptop I put N7 decals on it... only game I've ever done that with.

I remember the girl in the hospital who was always asking for a gun.  It got so interesting I kept coming back to hear the rest of the story.  It was worth it.

A series that once stood out among a sea of stars. Now faded into the black hole that is EA.

Bioware should not be praised from the past, sure they did great things then but they do not do that now.
Bioware sold their soul to EA and EA butchered them, yet mmorpg.com expect us to celebrate n7?

It's like celebrate Nazi Germany back in the early 30s how good they did for the common people, how much work they created how much the economy started to grow and forget what happen after 1939.

That's about the grossest, most inappropriate comparison ever. Bioware's games and the atrocities perpetrated by Nazis have no relationship whatsoever. Honestly, just WTF.

Companies burn bright and languish as do writers, artists, dancers, and every other human creation under the sun. To say that the entire ME series is in ANY way diminished by what YOU perceive as BW's downfall is inaccurate at its very core.

I've no love for EA and I feel that BW has gone precipitously downhill since its glory days, but many of the games they have created are some of the best ever and the artists/developers who created them should be celebrated.

This is one of my favorite moments in the series

A far cry from Ryder who just took whatever was thrown his/her way.

I'm not an IT Specialist, Game Developer, or Clairvoyant in real life, but like others on here, I play one on the internet.
