In the hay day of Unreal Tournament,we had hundreds of free maps,no need to advertise them because it was a free community game run on Epic or private servers and anyone could add maps to the game,no need to beg Blizzard for permission.
Yep Unreal T had solo mode or cop op with it's various game modes.

I feel like Blizzard has shafted gamer's big time with OW and sadly also with Hearthstone, they are so far behind bringing their games up to par it is sad for such a big money operation.
The problem is that too many instantly support Blizzard games so there is absolutely no push to improve their games,no sense of urgency.
Even Quake was the same way, nobody had to ask the developer for permission,Blizzard is far too controlling of every game they have, they don't like to give back anything to community unless they can make a buck from it.

As well UT shipped with the tools/editor for modding, what has Blizzard done for OW.....nothing...sigh,so why are people supporting such a lame developer?Start forcing Blizzard to put out good FULL products ,quit giving them easy free money for little effort.

Best game on the market??lol good one,it is not even half the game of similar games shipped 15+ years ago.

Never forget 3 mile Island and never trust a government official or company spokesman.

Overwatch is an Esports game, built with a unified geo-located league in mind. Everything they do is in support of that concept. This means polishing a "small" pool of maps. Obviously, restricting play to officially hosted servers is key, as that allows players to be part of the internal ecosystem. Modding and private servers would go directly against that design.

In a year since release, they released a whole new Arcade/Arena mode - this includes an array of new maps and game modes (substantially different to the main game). They also released three full new maps in their main game mode. They regularly release "festive" events - unlike in the large majority of online games, these festivities consist of substantial pieces of content, which in the past included coop/story modes, whole maps and a wide variety of cosmetics. They are regularly adding and reworking heroes, improving and overhauling the already implemented systems (such as currency, training grounds, ranked play - all of which have been overhauled or added completely since launch) and balancing gameplay.

Next to the in-game updates, they hosted their Esports Apex league since day one. They recently announced the second tier "promotion" league, where ranked players are able to join the various esports teams directly. Overwatch's main Esports pillar is its geo-located league, which is set to launch later this year. Blizzard has hosted several high profile networking events to date, presumably already having made substantial strides in terms of delivering the geo-located league. In support of this, they are implementing interactive statistics, a streaming client, extended in-game replays and a spectator mode for the tournaments.

For the casual players who like to experiment, the private rooms allow hosts to modify a huge variety of settings, way beyond modifying damage. You get to tweak almost every facet of gameplay, from skill recharge rates, to gravity, hero pools, damage or scoring.

You can argue that the geo-located league won't make it, or that the casual side of the game only caters to a specific audience. Perhaps the game is not for you and that's fine. But saying that Blizzard is not improving its product or not giving back to the community is obscene, especially considering all of the content that has been added in 12 months since release (with no additional payment needed whatsoever).

Next to Battlefield 1942 (Forgotten Hope mod), Unreal Tournament '99 is still one of my most played games ever! Such fond memories of that one!
I remember me, my brother and friends in the neighbourhood meeting up and playing Local LAN and dial-up games weekends on end. good old times!
