If it were a big issue, the 7700k has been on the market since the first of the year, you would have heard a lot more about this problem by now.

Yeah I was wondering why so many people would be raving about them in some of the reviews I read, or suggesting them for builds if they were all burning up like that...maybe I'll end up with one like that but lets hope not.

I suspect a BIOS problem on specific motherboards, like it already happened in the past.
With my rig in the signature, 7700k overclocked at 4.8ghz, I have no such problems, and I often encode videos all night long which means 100% usage of all cores for hours non stop.

For some reason it isn't letting me edit my post, but essentially I already purchased the motherboard, cpu, and cooler. I was looking at getting a 1080 or 1080ti, but just didn't know which I should go for. Also what ram do I want? I feel like this is essentially just a whole new build...

I know you wrote this very early in the thread but I thought I might address this. When you start a topic the cogwheel the one you use to edit is right on top by your topic title on the right next to the bookmark. It is also on the forum your topic lies in, for instance in this case Hardware and if you see your topic there will be a cogwheel next to it allowing you to edit from the index itself.

I am not sure about Newegg but Amazon takes back items even after you have removed the packing and used it as long as it is within the one month return period but my experience with them has been over the return of the video card but I did ask for a replacement. I believe they don't ask questions either you could get something else too.

If you read the article, the chip does not get hot enough to do any damage to itself according to Intel's specs, the problem is you have fans or cooling pumps that are forced into high activity at times which leads to a very noisy computer.

Personally I don't care what Intel specs say, high heat like this article talks about constantly degrades your chip, so I am going to speculate that we might see a lot of these chips breaking after a couple years.

Enough to deter me from getting or even recommending an I7 7700.  The Ryzen 1700 runs much cooler and is my current choice for computer builds.  Most of the builds I do are for customers that do not update that often.   Granted the I7 chip is faster so enjoy your short term builds.

Thank you! I can't believe I didn't see that little cog thingy. I reached out to Newegg and was able to return the CPU cooler, but for some reason they said that any returns of the mobo/cpu would have to be through manufacturer even if I haven't opened it- which doesn't really make sense to me.

Either way, I am ok with keeping those two pieces for my build. It seems there are people who love Ryzen and then the same amount of people who swear I go with an i7. I've been debating it for 2 weeks and don't think I'd ever actually decide if I keep looking into it more.

I have an i7 7700 and haven't noticed any issues with mine. Not to say some people aren't having any, but mine works just fine.

Thanks for the info! I've talked to a handful of people I know who haven't had issues either. Some people maybe are just getting bad units, or have messed up when trying to OC/Delid maybe? I'll post once I get my stuff in and see if I run into any issues- still deciding on final parts to order.

You do not seem to be really worried too much about prices here...so i will say, look at the the water cooled versions of the 1080 TI
    http://www.corsair.com/en-us/hydro-gfx-gtx-1080-ti-liquid-cooled-graphics-card

The one above is all one piece so easy to install.  They come at a premium of course, but if  you really want one of these and care about noise, i think they are something to think about at least.

I doubt they will be silent, but they should be much quieter than the air cooled, if they get under load.

I use an older "all in one" Coolermaster liquid cooling solution, I have it for 4 years and it still runs perfectly and silently, except of course when I "push" the CPU to 8x 100% and encode videos, but that's normal and happens with all CPUs.

There are much better ones nowadays though, for under $100.
