“When we looked at the way Battlefront had evolved over its lifetime, with the DLC and everything, we decided, ‘You know what? For this type of game, season passes are not the best thing’. We need to [take it apart] and come up with something better.”

You can be sure that if they have decided that season passes are not the best thing, its because nobody was really buying them, it doesn't unfortunately mean they are going to give you 'whole' games, but that they are somehow trying to find some other way to sell a game to you piecemeal :o

    New model: Pay per feature!

    $19.89 per playable class.
"Elite classes" available for $39.99 each.
    $25.49 per map.
    Weapons $5.49 - $49.99 each.

    It could happen!

While the amounts quoted are a tad extreme, yes, it absolutely could.

Seems this isn't about sales, it's more about fragmenting the community between those who get the new content and those who didn't.

"Diemer added that DICE does not want to segment the community, and confirmed that post-launch plans will be revealed at a later date. “[..] we have something different in mind that will allow you to play longer, be [more] invested in the game without having a fragmented community.”

This has been a problem in battlefield games since at least Bf2, many couldn't join map rotation servers because they'd get kicked when xpac maps they didn't have were up. Not sure how to fix that while still offering new maps/functionality in DLC. I guess they could go the weapons/skins route and release all new maps/modes for free...
