Heroes of the Storm is gearing up for its prolific Heroes 2.0 progression and rewards overhaul, but that’s not the only thing that’s coming in the next patch. Put your nostalgia hats on, because the MOBA’s next hero is slapping an old Diablo 2 classic straight into the Nexus. If you ever played a Javazon, then you’d better get ready for Cassia.

they could have given us the choice between javazone (a melee assassin or warrior) or bowazone (a ranged assassin) at lvl 1 with two different sets of abilities depending on which trait you pick and move on from there.
not really excited for this new addition to the nexus
All the Diablo characters represent ONE build, not multiple. The reason Varian is multiclass is because specs do exist in the Warcraft world.
and you don't change build in the diablo universe ?
what the heck is that for a reason for a missed opportunity at an interesting multiclass hero ?
Lol, that's total nonsense. It's not like every Warcraft hero has multiclassing, or, as Ananit pointed out, there aren't specs in Diablo. No idea where you got this from.
@Ananit Though, I don't think what you're describing really fits with their philosophy on multiclass heroes. Obviously we only have a sample of one to work with here, multiclassing is more about the actual role (Assassin, Warrior, Support, etc...) than whether or not it's ranged or melee. This is especially true considering how many hybrid melee / ranged heroes exist. Greymane, for example, swaps between a melee and ranged stance at a whim. Even Cassia is going to vary pretty widely depending on if you talent into her Q or her E.
That all said though, check out my interview with Kent-Erik over at GameSpace, because I think he gets into exactly why they won't do what you're describing:

Essentially, if a hero is choosing between two completely different toolkits at level one, then why wouldn't they just make two heroes instead of having one eat up that much design space?
It's pretty much the loot boxes from overwatch filled with a ton of hilarious looking colored versions of previous skins and other useless things.
New hero aside - it looks like Blizzard cared more about adding a lot of bling bling rather than game polish this time.
