Chronicles of Elyria News - The latest (and long!) Chronicles of Elyria update has been penned and gives a look back at 2016 along with a peek ahead at 2017. The letter starts off with a brief discussion of how the team has grown to more than ten and that the company has moved in to spiffy new digs that will be able to house as many as twenty.

"...and we've already been approached by multiple publishers and investors..."

That's good to hear. I guess that happened after the appeal for an extra $2-3M to produce a "protoype" to present to investors. Looks like money offers are now pouring in through the windows !

Mind you, the team will probably refuse all these investment offers, because it would reduce their control of the development process. Crowdfunding still gives the highest degree of creative freedom (as well as the lowest risk in case of failure)...

The thing is to build the game they originally pitched during KS cannot be done by a team of 20, not in a realistic time frame anyway.

If they grew the team to around 80+ devs they could come close in 3-5 years time (depending on level of polish) but would still have to cut key features IMO.

Thats just to build the game, publishing, marketing, hosting, building a secure platform for payment processing, etc.... that would require a LOT of additional staff and funds.

If they decide to self-publish and host theyll need at least 20 more Operations staff (DBA, Server/Storage, Network, Devops, Security, NOC), theyll need Business Inteligence and analytics team. Also Customer Service $ could be a dozen to 100+ depending on the level of support they plan to offer. A marketing team is also key if self publishing.

Self publishing alone can cost over 50 million for a large MMO title, especially with aggressive marketing that figure can grow a lot.

He honestly thinks he is going to have 1 million players in 2017? LOL

Also really love that bit about preaching the gospel of CoE...

Or "2017 looks to be a profitable year". I bet it does!!!

Starvault's reponse to criticism related to having a handful of players as the official "test" team for a supposed MMO: "We've just have another 10ish folk kind enough to voulenteer added tot the test team" (SIC) This explains much about the state of the game :-)

I wish them well and I would like these smaller projects to succeed and that will lead to more investment in the genre.
