So what is included in this 2.6? Do they even have a persistent universe yet? Or the same thing as before, fly around kill pirates ect?
2.6 is mostly not about the Universe release, in one side is FPS with Star Marine, the other is the whole push on improving the Flight Model/Combat with Arena Commander, so that is where the testing is focused.
But they have had PG planets and the landing down for almost 6 months now.  Maybe they exaggerated how far along that progress is.  I mean once you have PG down it just takes pressing a few buttons and planets are created.
Most likely they do really have both PG planets and landing on them, just no game engine that could run them in MMO environment.

Star Citizen made $7.75 million in crowdfunding last month, so backers are really happy with their current progress.

SC wasn't a mmo, was it. Just Mplay with a SP campaign.

Oi? Those 2 do not fit together, the PG scene would not harm the MMO scene, especially if you just have one localized instanced system as it is on SC. It just streams it, it could be a planet with 1 or 1000 players on it the scale on the present tech is rather irrelevant to it.

I mean that their engine needs to have support for planets and all the related stuff, and that stuff needs to be stable enough and fast enough for deployment to live (alpha) version. Until that is done they can't add any complete planet with landing on it to the game, whether that planet is procedurally generated or not.

They have been showing us PG planetary landing for over 6 months.  They really have no reason not to have at least 1 of them up and running right now.  Unless they have been misrepresenting themselves and yes they love to do that.
Are you onto something or just on something?

    So when is 2.6 now?

    So when is 2.6 now?
    From schedule? On the 22nd

Many doubts on my side though; I mean i'm sure with the holiday break they don't want to let 2.6 hanging on PTU so there's that pressure. Or they might leave a fully open PTU allowing anyone to convert their account if it's not stable enough then release LIVE after holiday break... Or they might just do like 2.0 more unstable live then hotfix.

    We'll see.

Does 2.6 have the netcode upgrade or w/e?   Anyone playing 2.6 right now seeing improvements in performance?

Brenics ~ Just to point out I do believe Chris Roberts is going down as the man who cheated backers and took down crowdfunding for gaming.

As for PU nope, it's pretty much the same. Netcode rewrites are stalled for 3.0, due the solar system rollout. For now performance is pretty much the same.

Netcode and Megamap have been scrapped for 2.6

I should also mention that 2.5 is not playable at the moment due to client problems (the server is running a different version which leads to 75%+ Invisible Bugs with the 2.5 Version Clients).

And Crusader Map is disabled on 2.6 (only Arena Commander and Star Marine is playable).
Oh and you need to access SM through the Hangar else it will insta crash

So if you want to play at least AC and SM and you are not lucky enough to have 1. or 2. wave PTU invite you have to subscribe ($10 or $20 per month) to get instant access to 2.6

When you have cake, it is not the cake that creates the most magnificent of experiences, but it is the emotions attached to it.
    The cake is a lie.

"Tomorrow" is probably the most honest release date for this game.

    Updated daily.

The megamap is one feature for Arena Commander not the Universe; and it's not really AC that faces the big issues with network performance as we all know.

The new netcode was not scrapped because it was never in 2.6, check back to the Gamescon roadmap to see on what release is the "Star Network v0.1" staled for.
