Hot on the heels of The Force Awakens, Chris jumped back into Star Wars: The Old Republic to see how it holds up. It's half the MMO it used to be and a much better RPG because of it! Read on to find out why. Plus, in the Quick Hits, we have impressions of The Division, Darkest Dungeon's roadmap from launch, a new character and the possibility of a new demo for Final Fantasy XV, free content for Shadowrun: Hong Kong, and more!

If this is a reference to what I think it is, then /highfive.
I know people just want to play the story, ignore mobs and move on to the next class and play that story. It's fine i guess, but for me it's not better than what it was before 4.0.

The game is about as big of a bust as can be for an MMO. So, they might as well focus on the part of the game that actually works and people actually like. As has been mentioned, most people only play this for the class stories and stuff anyway.

With story beeing such a massive fokus player retention will be even harder going forward. Story is non repeatable content. Unless you start a new char ofc. To keep players hanging long term you need some repeatable content. Atm the repeatable content we have are 4year old heroics and starforge. and ofc FP's and OP's and pvp, alot of thoose are 4 year old too.
When new players have played all class stories, then what ? I guess they can repeat them for the male/female and dark/light side option. At some point the old class stories will be played through, some stories more than once. The new story is not near as good as the old story (imo) and it's the same for all classes and same for both factions.
I just cant see how Bioware can ever hope to make enough story to keep people hanging when it's the same story for all classes. If the only content they create is non-repeatable they will need to pump out content alot faster.
If the story had been done like the prologue to SoR with most of the story happening in FP's then we would at least have some new FP's to play. This story aproach needs to come with something repeatable. Preferably something you can do as a group with friends or guildmates.
But I can see myself growing bored eventually. The lack of open world PVP is a drag. And it still bothers me that the game is extremely instanced. As i said back when the game originally came out, they should have made a seamless Space MMO.
Though the game is heavily solo orientated, its still a lot of fun to play in a group though, so if your playing with friends, as i do, then its a lot of fun.
Regular gameplay is not challenging, normally your at level cap for most of the stuff your doing, but its still fun to do, the only time it does become challenging, is the operations, and thats really where the teamwork aspects kick in.
The only bit i don't like in the game now is the crafting, its, barely worth the effort it takes to make stuff, so why bother.
But for gameplay its kind of fun, the main problem for me lately though, has been that on some planets there is a fair amount of server lag, this is probably due to the game engine, as i have a high end gaming rig now, but its only when there are multiple instances of that particular world and the population is fairly high, which lately seems to be the case more often than not, that the server lag becomes more noticeable.
Then again, if they replaced the game engine, maybe the PVP would improve as well as the lag issues.

As good as this article claims it to be. If this is the route Bioware wanted. It should have been an offline rpg with co-op option. Then it would have better graphics and rid the game off all the mmo tropes which people who do not play mmos abhor, it might have even released on consoles with some native controller support.
I do enjoy my spgs outside mmos and will purchase dlc if I deem it worth it. The day Skyrim or Dark Souls start charging me subscriptions is the day I stop gaming.
