    Long read but good stuff.

Going to be an interesting year for SC and CR.

WTF do you guys expect!? By your own admission Chris Roberts and his band of mighty heroes are attempting the impossible. Now I could be wrong but I feel such a herculean effort isn't going to happen over night. Of course attempting something impossible could all end in tears but at least these brave men are making an effort, and not just throwing up their hands and saying "nope it just can't be done", like some other rather vocal game making wizards I could mention.

The icing on the cake is when CS tells them the permenant forum ban will not be reversed because they were associating themselves with Derek smart through social media and that amounts to corporate espionage. I would like all of that to sink in with everyone for a second. If you agree with someone elses opinions on a forum or on social media that CIG does not agree with (and they can link the account to yours on their forums) they will assume you are aiding and abetting corporate espionage and will ban your account. I do believe someone earlier was asking for proof that they would ban you on their forums if you said something negative somewhere else and there it is.

Holy shit I must have missed that Email! I will admit that does seem pretty shady. I wonder what "questionable means" they mean? That would make a big difference. The whole "corporate espionage" thing is stupid as fuck unless they had someone from inside CIG giving info to whatever company DS is running into the ground.

Now I am REALLY curious. I need real info not troll-bait please.
I doubt there was anyone feeding the guy banned any corporate secrets, just that it is a bullshit excuse to ban people however they want. The ban was quoted as coming from violations of certain forum rules and not that reason.

With your earlier comment I honestly don't think Sandi conducted herself professionally at all. Her first couple of emails came across as someone trying to make it seem like the world is out to get them. She did eventually turn professional so kudos there.

They did get what hey requested but it took a few months which I suppose was because CIG gutted its customer service department

You don't hear anyone whining about when Cyberpunk 2077 is coming, because they made it perfectly clear that it'll come when it's ready.

I'm whining. I know they said "when it's ready", but I want a Mike Pondsmith written, Witcher 3 quality, stark future, open world rpg so badly, if I knew where to send money, I'd buy 5 right now and give copies to old friends who used to pnp Cyberpunk with me in the early 90s.

Those emails are priceless, Sandi totally lost the plot. "I am one of the best marketers in the world and I have been since a little girl." WTF?

@Erillion - You'd better prepare, the Goons will be storming SC en masse because they are guaranteed tears by the bucket load from all the wallet warriors compensating by buying expensive ships. EVE will seem like it was just a warm up.

Cyperpunk 2020 FTW ... very stylish, very deadly, very Neuromancer

And one of my favorite quotes: Russian Solo with a very obvious piston-powered cyberleg: " *** heavy russian accent *** Cyberware does not have to look pretty if you can kick hole in tank ! "

Shadowrun 5 is nice too. But with all the orcs and magic it is a lot less Cyperpunk-ish  compared to Cyberpunk 2020/2077.

Maybe getting the Star Citizen pilot shot up a bit (4-6 deaths) so he sports some cybernetics and looks like a Solo of Fortune ;-)  would be an idea.

Yeh, that book was actually a year before 2020 released, when it was Cyberpunk. Everybody wanted to rp a solo or a corporate. I had to talk a friend's girlfriend into playing a netrunner, just so we had something different. Made for easy stories, though, clandestine ops with rich people and their bodyguards. Good times.

What sticks out the most for me is he already had the money to make this game from day 1 and not just any game but he said a great game.
This matters a lot because he never had half the team he has now nor even remotely close to the money he has now,so what happened?
Know what he has had for the past year or so,scripted videos,so advertisements and no real solid game play.
If yo ueven look back what 4 months ago, when we had the free public look see,he had NOTHING.They couldn't even complete the textures on almost nothing for assets and trust me,if you were showing something to the public,it would be buttered up to look better than expected.

Not being able to finish the textures with a huge budget and team and on so very little ,sent a huge red flag that this guy has literally nothing done so far, can't even get the ships finished that he is selling people.

Scripted advertising videos and a Hangar and a cheap looking space map are not cutting it 3 years later, you need to show a lot more professionalism than that.

I never did answer the what happened?Speculation is all we have other than incompetence. He and his wife were involved in a LOT of movie production over the past year, just look at her and his DB i counted over 15 ventures so that si a lot of time spent elsewhere outside the game.It also makes it more believable that he has been welching funds fro m the game to support his and her movie/Hollywood ventures.

Last but not least i am still lost as to the whole Stock selling ordeal, nobody seems to chime in on it or make any sense of it.He his brother and his lawyer created shares, they created ZERO revenueOk no problem so far, they can sell them to the public and create revenue but NOPE,they sold every single share to the company after creating zero revenue with them.To me that looks like a license to print free money out of the games coffers.

I know since end of 2012 that the Goons are storming SC en masse. They were not exactly silent about it in EVE and their usual forums.  You will see a lot of posts of mine here referring to Starfleet Dental and Goonrathi. And Launch Day massacres when Goon hunterpacks will attack and board, capture and steal a lot of multiplayer ship with solo pilots.  You already see them practising in the SC Alpha. For the last 10 years i have grown used to the Goons in EVE ... fought with them, against them, ignored them, smiled at some of their antics, shook my head at some of their fuck-ups  (e.g. Mittani ban for you know what...) etc.

Pack tactics used against them will be educational for some of the pilots in the Persistent Universe.

Still, there are Goons with style & creativity  and Goon headcases .... i prefer the former.

    Translations!

Q1. Has any aspect of creating this game been harder than counting the money?

A1. THE GAME ISN'T DONE YET DUMBASS. Also fuck CryEngine.

Q2. Pirates are naturally well organized individuals who would publicly declare their desire to commit mass murder on job boards, right?

A2. Space Uber will be agnostic in who uses it, but different boards will require you to be a part of the specific group.

Q3. Will Arena Commander allow me to train my hapless minions in the ancient art of stealing capital ships? I feel like this is a valid allocation of CIG's resources.

A3. There will be maps on the smaller cap ships, but if you find a fucking Bengal consider learning how to steal it to be part of the difficulty.

Q4. In spite of my most dapper fedora and semi-annual bathing attempts, I have been unable to convince other humans to work with me. Since Star Citizen will be 90% NPC, will I have a better chance of convincing one of them to join my cause?

A4. NPCs will obviously be affected by what you do with basic cause and reaction. For example if a planet asks for a load of pleasure bots, and you destroy said pleasure bots, the planet will hire an escort service to go along with the next shipment of pleasure bots (HEYO!).

Q5. Please explain how the fuck instancing mechanics will work.

A5. EVERYTHING HAPPENS INSIDE THE SAME INSTANCE, INCLUDING FPS AND BOARDING MECHANICS. IF YOU DISABLE A SHIP, GO EVA TO LAND ON THEIR SHIP, AND GO INSIDE IT'S ALL THE SAME INSTANCE. HEY GUYS THIS IS ACTUALLY NEW INFORMATION SO I'M SAYING IT IN ALL CAPS.

Q6. I have a helmet fetish. I love the cool feeling of polymers caressing my skin as I breathe heavily and cause my space visor to fog in a manner that science has already mitigated in present day. To what extent can I customize said helmet? Fuck the rest of the armor, I'll go naked anyway, but GOD I LOVE HELMETS.

A6. There will be a fair amount of customization. The equipment you're carrying dictates what you'll see on your HUD, just like what your ship is equipped with dictates what your HUD sees. You'll see the first implementation of this sometime around 1.0 when we start to differentiate the HUDs based on the what ship is flown. Fuck Auroras.

Q7. I forgot that this is a fucking PC game and want to know if we'll be able to get an achievement for all the stupid shit that console games reward people for doing.

A7. No. Your achievements will be in lore, like buying fish from different locations or getting space crabs from that space red light district you went to when your space wife thought you were on a space business trip to a space conference. ACHIEVEMENT UNLOCKED: YOU'RE AN ASSHOLE.

Q8. I've spent thousands of dollars on this game and loathe the idea that some asshole twitch gamer will be able to murder my fat ass. Please rectify my fears by confirming that skill has no place in the FPS.

A8. You won't see anyone 360 NO SCOPE you, it's modeled realistically so stuff like running or hip shooting will make your aim suck. It's closer to Rainbow Six than Quake III. You will still get annihilated by a prebuscent youth.

Q9. I'm a fucking moron who thinks that CIG is going to let me destroy their hand crafted planets by dropping shit from orbit or whatever the fuck. IMMERSION.

A9. No, dumbass, you can't blow up a fucking planet.

Q10. The only thign that appeals to me more than getting shoved in a cell is going through a REALISTICALLY IMMERSIVE courtroom experience. Will there be powdered wigs?

A10. We're going to abstract the shit out of this for mechanics. However we're going to have a PLAYER DRIVEN TRIBUNAL for... stuff. Like banning Goons. Fuck Goons.

My comment about the issue at hand:

    a) CS was overworked - a known issue

I didn't ask about previous writings from him I asked you about the emails between him and CS/Sandi. I'm surprised you didn't try to find if he had anything on the internet from when he was 4 years old to say "look he can't write complete sentences and he writes like a 4 year old so hes to be ignored".

For your comments on the actual issues I will agree with your point a and b, even go as far to say they went above and beyond service with point b. Unfortunately like usual you skirt the meat of the issue and don't actually talk about Sandi's unprofessionalism(at least at the beginning) or the absolutely batshit insane reason as to why he was perma banned.

I don't play a lot of MMO's regularly so I'm not in a lot of contact with them but I guess I'm still a member! They look like they are going to have a decent presence in SC. Have you seen the amount of ships some of them have? I bet all total Grievance has spent about $10K in ships alone.

Missing dates means little. MMOs miss dates all the time and sometimes they are years off as with projects this big, you never really know all the details. This is a common as it comes. BTW I am not saying this game will make it, or I support this game. Just saying whats the norm.

Do you know what confounds me? People who claim to work in software and yet they are confounded that software projects somehow take longer than originally expected. You know what also confounds me? Someone who claim to work in software and yet seem to trivialize things like:

"Not being able to finish the textures with a huge budget and team and on so very little ,sent a huge red flag that this guy has literally nothing done so far, can't even get the ships finished that he is selling people."

I'm sorry, but anyone who's worked in software has more than a handful of stories where "...so this guy in marketing walks up and says, 'why can't you do this, it's so simple'..." and another handful or 20 of cases where their project blew up because a PM walked into the room and decided that he now understood what the world needed in the software, based off one client's feedback.

Yet, SOME PEOPLE, who CLAIM to work in software are continuously doing this exact same thing.

Just a funny observation how some people can be extremely close-minded when it comes to something that THEY want.

OR, maybe these people simply ALWAYS get perfect spec docs before they even write a line of code. Then there are no changes afterwards and they are just SOOO good that they implement everything trivially before the deadline set by the PM. MAN! If that's the case, please send me your resume.

To write perfect spec docs you first need to know what the client needs and wants- and with client i mean his engineers in the trenches, not the things stated in the fancy fairy tale contract that Sales made the client CEO sign.

Now imagine you have a few hundredthousand clients with partially mutually exclusive requirements.

The excuse for all of this will be feature creep.

If you don't want people to quote dates back at you later, then don't set them.  Do you know when CD Projekt Red is releasing Cyberpunk 2077?  When it's ready.  Maybe CR should take a cue from these guys and learn not to puke dates out of his mouth so easily.

Don't worry tho, the white knights will be along shorty to explain to us how failing to meet soft target deadlines is a good thing.  I'm having fun!
It's not a "good thing" yet it's not exactly a bad thing either from my perspective. Considering the reasoning for that delay.WHy are you comparing it to a solitary studio? Plenty of studios miss estimated delivery dates, it's common in the industry..

A kickstarted project is almost always going to have estimated dates, it's par for the course in terms of getting folks to pledge.
