There are dozens of popular features in MMOS. But really, what's the one that makes you load up that MMO?

    If you would add the option "Combat System/gameplay" I would pick that one.

    I start with the game's screenshots. I look at the world and the characters in the world. If they are not appealing to me, that's the end of the road. 

    That is also where exploration comes in. Is it a world I want to see more of?

    Assuming the graphics are decent, I look at he classes and see if there are one or two I want to play. 

    Then I look at the game play overall as described in the game's features.

    Those are the top 3 for me. :) 

    EQ1, EQ2, SWG, SWTOR, GW, GW2 CoH, CoV, FFXI, WoW, CO, War,TSW and a slew of free trials and beta tests

    The graphics. If I see a good engine or refined looks, I know the game has a large budget and enough developers to support it. Not always true, but in general.

    It has to have PVP with meaning.  Not just some random buildings that can switch hands without affecting anything crucial.

    There is no game on this planet that can satisfy me with one main feature.
    If i was to take the worst possible game,it would have to at least have an in depth combat and character design.

    One thing devs cannot get right is the in depth part,they seem to think that depth means toss in 100 spells/abilities and just let players choose,that is not depth that is a LAZY design.

    Never forget 3 mile Island and never trust a government official or company spokesman.

    Problem with such lists is, they can (in this case, should) always be expanded by at least couple important aspects.

    I agree that, if nothing else, "other" must be added.
     W...aaagh?

    Good combat gameplay, of course (and why is combat not an option?)

    99% of what players do in a MMO is to fight, so core combat gameplay has to be good.

    I wanted to pick both pets and housing, but since I had to choose one I went for housing.  Crafting is of course very important too.
    I want to help design and develop a PvE-focused, solo-friendly, sandpark MMO which combines crafting, monster hunting, and story.  So PM me if you are starting one.

    Just curious if ESO is an example of endless character progression or item grind?  I have not played it since beta, so I have no idea.

    It was tough choosing amongst those listed, but I chose exploration.  Agreed that "other" or even the ability to choose more than one would be good, but polls are quite limited.

    The list is incomplete (no Community focus) in my opinion so I went with "explore" as best available for myself and my preferences. I kind of figure "community" was left off the list on purpose due to "design philosophy" so I'll play nice and go with an option available.

    By choosing "Explore" I am also saying open world, few to no instances, made for both solo and groups, seamless, massive in size and worthy of being explored, detailed and intricate with much to find in the world, etc. If the "world" in question that will be made does not fit this criteria than there's no point in exploring it in my opinion.

    Good Endgame

    Which encompasses the following:
    • Good combat and class design - its impossible to have good endgame unless the combat is challenging and the classes well designed. If the game only has the trinity, then it'll be too easy / boring. 
    • Horizontal Gear Progression - If it has horizontal progression then I know the devs have designed the game with community and longevity in mind so it'll be worth committing to it. 
    • Objective based open world pvp - like the ettenmoors in lotro, or the pvp lakes in war. This is my favourite activity, I love fighting over keeps and stuff. 
    • Decent group pve content - doesn't necessarily have to be raids, but as long as there are some length group dungeons or raids which I can enjoy with my non-pvp friends then I'll be happy.

    I went with graphics (It looks pretty!). If I find it hideous, it's going to take a loooot of persuading for me to even give it a try, so all of the other great features will never be experienced.

    One that is actually massively multiplayer online. Heck, even a 2 player chess game is classified as an mmo on steam. It's been challenging to find real mmos.

    Agree with the first responder about combat system/gameplay being #1 feature. Classes are usually the first thing I look at.

    I'm looking for an 'other' option.  Not found.

    The first thing I notice about any system is how far (if at all) the game veers from the basic combat and crafting grind to offer me something new and different.  If it falls in the 'nothing new' (and most do) category, I might stick with it a few months.

    Logic, my dear, merely enables one to be wrong with great authority.

    While I chose crafting, I would choose 'gameplay' over it if it was on the list. I want a game that is engaging, no matter how I'm able to play it. Ideally I would like to find a game that is able to sustain that rush you get from playing something new and exciting. Usually red flags appear and you can tell where it's going to fail though.

    I'm fascinated that "Exploration" is a popular thing.

    MMOs should give XP just for visiting new areas and you can revisit after some time for less and less XP. You should be able to level up just by exploring. Whether your time is spent killing mobs or running around shouldn't make a difference right?

    You can even have certain classes like rangers or scouts that get more XP for exploring, or even better, exploring while having one in your group gives a bonus to everyone. Scouts would gladly show other players around new areas =)

    I would put Exploration and Looks pretty and the 2 main components

    All of my posts are either intelligent, thought provoking, funny, satirical, sarcastic or intentionally disrespectful. Take your pick.

    I get banned in the forums for games I love, so lets see if I do better in the forums for games I hate.

    Death Penalty for the convicted. I would like to see a jury judge a scumbag with guilty and give them the Death Penalty. The guards escort you out into the square, put the noose around your neck, and let you swing dead while the crowd throws tomato's. I would pay double month subscription for that!

    Start with looks.  I'm looking for a consistent style, and that the devs are doing their own work.

    Then I look to see if I have the ability to not do combat for a few days in a row if I choose to.

    Practice doesn't make perfect, practice makes permanent.
