The idea of rinse repeat is bad yes however the opposite effect has a negative as well.
If you try to fix the idea of lame rinse repeat no real death penalty or penalty for careless gaming by adding in repairs you hurt the players that never wanted any pvp to begin with. The idea does work however is all consent to the pvp, then i actually like the idea. However then you also need BALANCE you can't have some poorly geared character facing off versus an unstoppable o/p player.
I think the bottom line is pvp is no good unless you just do it in an arena style fps because all parties are 99% equal aside from latency/bandwidth.Once you start adding gear and levels and buffs,it no longer works.
Never forget 3 mile Island and never trust a government official or company spokesman.

I think that is a horrible idea. Balance is boring. I think you guys are in the wrong game thread, this is not a PvE game like farmville.

I've said it before and I've said it again, people should not be in games with rule sets that they don't like.
Not every game has to be "perfectly balanced", at least for some people. There is a different feel with World pvp, guild vs guild pvp, than just having some arena. Especially because it is part of "politics" and the shift for power.
Like Skyrim? Need more content? Try my Skyrim mod "Godfred's Tomb."

There's always those who visit the wrong game forum and ask for a pve server or no full loot.
There's always those who visit the wrong game forum and ask for full loot and complete open world pvp.
While i can feel those who crave for full loot open world pvp mmo's, i will never understand those who come from nowhere just to ask for a complete pve server or no full loot.
The reason is, we already got 3ple A mmo's where there's absolutely no death penalties while there's not one open world pvp with looting 3ple A title yet.
I for one simply hate the rinse and repeat with no reason to be more careful the next time you come back.
I like moba games because if you feed, you will be the reason that your team will have no chance to come back out as the victor. In dota 2, you lose 300 gold on death and in lol, your enemy just become more powerful with more free time to free farm or to take the dragon & baron. Yet, moba's are the most popular genre ATM.
PvP is about learning how to survive. Learn the maps. Learn the skills. Learn the terrain. Learn the gear. Learn the classes.
You don't have to be a Pro-PvPer to have fun in a PvP open-loot game. You have to learn to avoid fights you can't win and how to make the quickest escape when you do end up in a fight. And as Kaiser pointed out, gear on a full-loot game is not the top-of-the-line incredible stuff you'd find in WoW or DAOC. If it's a player=crafting economy, than it's simple things you can either piece together yourself or buy for cheap. If it's based on MOB drops, then they are easy (albeit, repetitive) to find and beat for their gear.
I spent 4 years playing a full loot, PvP MUD in the mid 90's. It was harsh. It was my first foray into the MMO world and it scarred me for life. After that, I just can't go back to these "safe" games that have no consequences for death. I don't even like to kill players, I just like the adrenaline of knowing it *could* happen.

Agree. Game devs should make the games they want. Players should only play games with things they like (game mechanics/rules/art style/etc). Perhaps there is a better solution to the PVP Full loot problem:
The Naked Zerg. You can be killed but you can't be looted!
Kyleran: "Now there's the real trick, learning to accept and enjoy a game for what
it offers rather than pass on what might be a great playing experience
because it lacks a few features you prefer."
John Henry Newman: "A man would do nothing if he waited until he could do it so well that no one could find fault."
FreddyNoNose: "A good game needs no defense; a bad game has no defense." "Easily digested content is just as easily forgotten."
LacedOpium: "So the question that begs to be asked is, if you are not interested in
the game mechanics that define the MMORPG genre, then why are you
playing an MMORPG?"
One thing to keep in mind, which people who aren't used to these types of games fail to grasp so often, with player looting games is that gear is expendable. You aren't going to "spend days making great items" in most cases. You may invest quite a bit of time getting your crafting skills high enough to make those great items, but for the most part once you reach that point making them takes pretty minimal effort. After a couple months the game tends to become saturated with at least "good" if not "great" gear to the point where your average player has dozens, sometimes hundreds of backup sets.
This wins the thread....
DaoC is a great game however, you could be killed and be back on the battlegrounds in seconds. Now some of you don't mind "Agent Smith" encounters but please try to understand the logic behind partial looting, even if you don't agree with it.
What's interesting here is the elimination of the "crafting game". I believe the people often referred to as "carebears" are made up of subsets of players including those who play predominately to gather and/or craft.
Instead of justifying full loot PVP by explaining how the risk is minimized through low value goods, kaiser3282's statement actually highlights a second reason these players may not want to participate. One being risk of loss through non-consensual PVP and two being unrewarding crafting systems. Unless the actual act of crafting itself is somehow rewarding enough, there doesn't seem to be much reason for these types of players to play in such a game.
I focus on gathering/crafting I will just straight up murder you and your friends if you think you can come near my gathering spot:3
Wow I hate MMO's where people can shittalk on you all day whilst keeping everything to themselves and not a thing that can be done about it. Face me already
oh and gems, precious gems i will find you I will take them from you
lol mousebutton macro tough guy. I will make them pay for talking shit to me in this chat room! Best post ever.
MMORPG players are often like Hobbits: They don't like Adventures
I think the Albion devs have the right idea. If you create a place for the non pvp crowd to play, you will end up with an overall larger player base, and in the end more pvp. Much like Eve Online.
Some of the best times I ever had was in UO and getting attacked from someone hiding behind a tree. That feeling and jumping out of my seat rocked. Then standing there as a ghost watching the dude go thru my pack and throwing stuff on the ground he didn't want. Then laughing at me the whole time he was doing it. If the game brings feelings and play style back like that in this game I will be very happy.
One thing about these type games is not to cry when you are attacked and killed. Believe me they tend to remember the name and you will then have a hard time playing the game after that. I would always laugh and tell them good kill. But then that was only if that person learned ghost talk.
Do you realized that the essence of what your post was about is that you felt that way therefore everyone else should feel that way. Especially with your not crying point. Do you wonder why people don't play those games?

I find it pathetic that people simply cannot 'cope' with losing their items. Especially when these items are fairly easy to replace. Find a blacksmith, pay them to assist you in replacing the items you've lost. Go back to fighting or whatever.
This not only promotes true social interaction between players, but also a functional environment for crafters. Instead of crafting just being a thing that you do, it serves a real purpose in the world.
In truth, what you can't handle is dying to another player. It has very little to do with losing your items, because those are easily replaced. It has to do with your inability to adapt to a harsh world. Your inability to accept a fight when you weren't expecting it. So you try to paint a picture that shows a level 50 person ganking a level 1. In a well designed version of an open world // player looting pvp game, the outcome of the fight is heavily based on a player's skill, and I believe this is what GV will be.
Truthfully, if you learn to embrace the risk/reward games, they will be the most fun you've ever had. It gets your adrenaline pumping. It's an awesome rush. Yes, sometimes it sucks when you lose, but when you win, it's even better.
So instead of trying to change the core design mechanics of a game, because they don't fit 'you'. Please try to be a bit more open-minded to the experience, or at the very least, play one of the thousands of games that have already been developed and provide exactly what you ask for.
I never understand these posts, and they do nothing but twist devs when this shit is posted on mass causing the game to die later on and mainly due to forum whining.
Um, actually it lets people know that this game has such a mechanic. In many cases it's the mechanic itself that turns players away. It's not whining at all. I'd never play a game with player looting and such a mechanic limits the potential player base drastically. Not a great way to get people interested in your game.
Do you realized that the essence of what your post was about is that you felt that way therefore everyone else should feel that way. Especially with your not crying point. Do you wonder why people don't play those games?
If that is how you took it, then that is sad. The crying part was advice on why people in pvp tend to gank some players. the part about getting surprised is exactly what made those old games great and then have lead to the games being made thru the years.
Now I will tell you exactly why the people, kids, crybabies, or how ever you want to take it have ruined the games of today, why WoW which was greater when it released than it is now, because they had to dumb it down for those that can't handle the way these games were suppose to be played. Granted it is about the money but people today have become to much of, but I want what he has and i want it now I do not want to go thru what he did to get it. I don't have the time, I work (all of us do) I have a family (we all do) so please give it to me now. That is what is wrong with today's gender and that is sad and that is exactly why 2015 has had so many DUMBED down games.
Personally I would love to go back to before WoW and have the few of us that actually loved the games we had back then and the rest of you could be doing what ever it was back then. That is why we have so many threads looking for those type games today. Everything has to be easy for people today and it just isn't our games, grade schools, University's, and work. It really is sad how people have become in today's society and it is ruining a lot of things that use to be great.
The game looks fantastic. I love deep challenging crafting. I simply cannot accept being ganked and having my hard work stolen from me. I wish I could consider the game but I simply refuse to subject myself to gank squads. I have played DAOC for over 10 years. My wife still plays.I'm addicted to realm vs realm warfare. Just not gankers taking my hard work away from me and wasting the days I spent making great items. I hope this feature is reconsidered.
you know that the only thing I always thought it was missing from daoc was exactly player looting - but not in a sense that the guy actually would LOSE all his stuff - it would be made like ... what you looted (his stuff) would be a copy of his to your char - and his durability went to broken after that (and you remember the cost of repairs of a full crafted, gemmed and enchanted gear... I mean, least back in the days, I dont know how it is now but back then... repair WAS HELL... and the damn leveled artifacts)....
I say this because I spent more time grinding human beings on the frontiers than doing anything else lol so... it would be very profitable for me... considering k/d ratio lol
Don't think so, the game is already carebearized enought to please casuals. Simply don't play it if is not your taste, asking to change the game to please yourself will remove the freedom of other people who like more risk vs reward.
You can ask however a pve server with consensual pvp, it will further split the community but at least is better than making both crowds unhappy with unnecessary compromises.
Btw, i probably will not play this game since i love sandbox like UO and EVE, mean ffa pvp with alignment system, full loot, 100% player driven economy, they make too much compromises in the same ruleset for my tastes.

I agree. Op should find another game. I myself stay away from full loot PVP games because they are griefers paradise. These games are often cannibalized by the player base. So no need to fret. It will be like many other world PVP games which no one would remember in few months after release.
